Yea, its a very very much upgraded version of RPGMaker2000. Its RPG Maker XP and it allows for so many better things.
Im only using FF as a simple outline if you will.
Spells (Firaga, Blizzara, Thunder, Ultima, Flare, Meteor, Comet, etc.)
Weapons (Ultima Weapon)
Transportation (Chocobos and Airships)
And Characters (Black Mage, Red Mage)
Plus of course, a character named Cid. (NPC).
I am adding a bunch of my own elements to it, so it won't be a wash up remake of any of the old games.
Ah yeah I fiddled with that too, but just don't have the drive to design in RPGM again =[, or the time really. I sadly only am good with the programming aspect, and I loved the fact they introduced a free-write scripting language. I think for like a week I tinkered with it and made game sprites about the size of Ragnarok Online's sprite design, and had 8 directional navigation across an isometric field... fun times =]
Edit: Just saw the screenshots, have to admit they look a bit uninspiring and/or epic... I hope you do plan on sprucing them up a bit.
Meh... the main reason I don't touch RPGM anymore is my horrible talent with graphics. I had a lot of customly made edits done by some other people for my last "big" project. If you wanna see what I was blabbering about not having any similarities to mainstream games take a look at my project: "Kindred Saga", though when I made it, I was really just trying to showcase what you can actually do with the game.
Also, if you're any savvy with RPGM2k you can edit your stats in preview mode (if you can manage to find the right variables ;P) and unlock all the spells in the game once the Grafting system is unlocked. Sucks, I had a long story drawn out and was in the process of doing chapter 2 when a virus blew my computer up.
Anyway go here:

On the drop down menu:
Exile
Kindred Saga
Are my two real demos. Exile was an older project and I got bored with it, Kindred Saga is the project that got virus'd in the face.
One thing with KS I'd go back and redo if I could was the opening... it was my biggest mistake, because the only thing people couldn't get off of was the fact that they thought the game was an "FF7 clone", and honestly it was far from it, other than me using the opening theme from it in my opening... but yeah give it a play if you're interested. I think the maps came out well and the battle engine too.
RPG2k was definitely flexible, but a lot of people didn't realize it's potential until a few people released custom battle engines in their games (I was one of like, three on the front of this wave of new genre games in the community). I also designed several other battle engines in the maker, including Tactics style, but making reliable pathing AI in that horrible scripting language was a nuisance. Designed a clone of the 2d Tales series games battle engine also which came out REALLY nice, I loved it a lot but unfortunately in the platform I designed it for, it ran smoothly only on some computers, and the rest it ran unbearably choppy due to the language's shitty image refreshing cycle. Finally I designed a unique combo-based engine where you could chain together the 4 arrow keys to make combo sequences and activate deathblows (ala Xenogears) which also came out really spiffy, and... of course I've lost it somewhere in the void of my computer... I think it died when my old FAT32 died. =[
Anyway, you just kinda reminded me of the good old days when I found making RPGs fun. Good luck with yours!
