If you take your job to heart, you annoy me...

Sadly, I have reached the conclusion that obsessing over the job you play in game leads to one of three results-

Either you become better at that job, quit it over your own failures, or become an ass.

Anyone disagree?

agreed completely but you left out one option

you pick the job back up after you quit it when you get the balls to lv it and be better at it ie bst

I am Tim. I play Paladin usually. It doesn't mean i am a Paladin, but rather it is my usual job of choice. I always play to the best of my ability, no matter what job I'm playing, and that is something i am proud of.

You aren't a {Insert job here}, you just play it.
I think you meant sarcasm but in case you didnt...

There is always a job you Cherish above all the others, and that should be considered "your job." There is nothing wrong with sticking up or fighting for "your job." The one you should be annoyed at are the ones that preach about jobs they never played.

Who cares man. It's never going to be a harmonius setting because the jobs are unbalanced, simple as that.

Not one of you here can stand in front of me and say that the overall damage power of a MNK is dwarfed by a DRG.

There isn't a single game where each class is equal to every other class in what it does. There's a best for everything, and people like to be the best. Some people hate on other people for not being the best, and these people are the people that you're running into.

I probably sound like a jack ass for saying this, but if you chose a job/class/whatever it's called in your game, that you knew wasn't the best and was not a common choice, then you need to expect the criticism. If you can't handle it, why did you choose that class?

When I played FFXI I decided to level PLD originally because at the time that I actually was still leveling it no one used NINs.

Eventually NIN became the prime tank, of course that annoyed me but there was really nothing I could do about it. I didn't come on here and bitch though. I made a WAR and became a DD whore, later on becoming a NIN which I sadly wasn't able to finish.

I hope this wasnt directed towards my OP, because it is real far off topic if thats the case...

I wasnt talking about job balance, or anything even close to that. The PLD thing was an example. I dont mind if you like DRG and play it, if i need a member ill invite ya. Im not proud.

Man, I have no idea whats being flamed here. Let me get this straight, Tex is a robot, and that makes Tim.... a gay robot?

Let's say... you spend 140 days, 22 hours, and 16 minutes leveling one job, carefully choosing the right equipment for it, and trying to do your best at it that you can.

One day, some jackass comes up to you gaffawing about how gimp your job is. Kinda makes you feel like you've wasted your time... doesn't it? Kinda hurts a bit... right?

...wrong. Keep in mind, the person who said you're a gimp is a jackass. You can change jobs, he'll still be a jackass.

well there a two way to interpret that. While drg wont beat a mnk in dmg, it does offer something mnk does not have; a pet. Mnk can only be played one way damage and damage.(well two if you count range chi blasting) Drg on the other hand can be healer, dd, or somewhere in the middle of both depending on there sub. Pup the same way, though way different in the ways of playing styles. There no such thing as best job because they are in fact balanced, just not balance in the way that you would want them to be.

No, all jobs are not equall to eachother in damage. But that's not the point

All jobs are DIFFERENT, and they are different in dealing damage. If a THF did equall damage to a MNK, it would be extremely overpowered, for the simple fact that THF concentrate on hate management. It can put hate on someone else etc. This is something a MNK can't do as efficiently. And that is where THF shine.

All jobs have different jobs in the game. That's why they call them jobs. If all would deal the exact same damage, they would just call them the same job.

DRG deal damage though themselves and through their pet. Its a pet job, and without their pet, their damage would be a lot worse. DRG, too, focus on hate management, that's why DRG and THF are a good combination, and they can also make Light together.

DRK deal good damage. They specializes in Scythe weapons. Slow attack speed, high damage. They can also use Absorb spells to strenghten their own weaponskills and damage, while decreasing the mob's ability in a certain area. They can also absorb TP in order to get higher TP. They can also drain the mob in order to get MP back and damage the enemy.

PLD tank through taking hits, and curing themselves and party members. They are there to protect their members from taking damage, by taking damage themselves.

All jobs have different situations where they shine. DRG does piercing damage, and have Dragon Killer, making them effective against mobs weak to piercing etc. THF works good against these mobs too.

MNK, on the other hand, deals bash damage. They are PURE DD's, in that they don't have any job besides dealing damage and curing themselves for when they get hate. This, offcourse, make MNK's very effective against things weak to bash damage, and slightly worse against things strong to it, like beetles and crabs.

WAR, on th eother hand, have 2 roles. They can either be tank, or DD. They can also wield most weapons. This makes them excellent DD's and passable tanks with the right gear.

NIN was originally supposed to be a DD job. And their damage have always been supposed to come though speed. With faster attackign speed, they will do more damage. That's why they get Dual Wield, because their damage comes from speed. They can also deal additional damage through magic and ranged attacks. The player based turned this around, though, and made them tanks. They still concentrate on speed, though.

SAM's, on the other hand, focus on TP and weaponskills. They can open and close pretty much any skillchain in the game, making them good skillchain partners with all jobs.

RNG's deal damage through ranged attack. They shoot at things, simple as that. They turn gil in to damage. They are 1 of 3 pure DD jobs. One can say they are a mix of MNK and BLM. BLM focus on burst damage, MNK focus on dps. If MNK is the far right, and BLM the far left, RNG is in the middle.

BLU's deal damage through spells, very much like BLM. However, BLU's are the most adaptable jobs in the game. They can either enfeeble the enemy, play melee DD, mage DD, tank, or healer. They can do all of them well, although not as well as jobs concentrating on that specific job.

WHMes are the healers. They heal stuff.

RDMes focus on increasing exp/hr by reducing downtime. This is their job.

BLMes focus on burst damage. They have close to none dps damage. Their cat single-hit high-damage spells for damage.

BRD are pure supporters. Their focus is to increase exp/hr by decreasing the time it takes to kill a mob, by increasing the other job's damage. They can also help slightly reduce downtime by increasing the MP reserves.

COR's are a combination between RNG and BRD. They can deal damage, but not as good as a RNG. They can also buff other jobs, but not aswell as a BRD. Their buffs are random, and thus, the overall efficiency of their buffs will be lower then that of a BRD.

SMN is yet another pet job. The difference is that their damage comes purely from their pets. SMN is a mix between PUP, DRG and BST, in that SMN can both play well in parties, and solo, although not as well as DRG and BST in their particular roles.

BST focus on pets, too. Theyr are excellent soloers, and can play excellent in parties if they are just given the chance. Just like DRG, they need their pets in order to deal good damage. Although I do admit they can deal good damage in merit parties with the right set up :p

PUP also deal damage through their pets. They can make their pet focus on either piercing damage, burst magic damage, or, I believe, slashing damage? This makes them able to adapt to the situation. Most PUPs just pure suck though, as they believe the main damage comes from themselves rather then their pet.

Either way, no job is identicall to one another. They all have different roles and jobs. This is why you'll see DRG's deal slightly less damage then a MNK. They are ment to. They are not a pure DD job like MNK is. This would be almost like saying RDMes suck because they can't deal as much damage as a BLM. They have 2 completely different roles, although DRG's role is still rather similar to MNK, in that they both deal damage, only through different means.

In order to play your job good, you need to figure out what your role in a party is. You can't go out and say "Oh, I'm a DD!". If you do that, you won't be able to strenghten your strenghts, and counter your weaknesses. Doing that is just stupid, and makes you look like a fool. No job is identicall to one another, and comparing a MNK to a THF or DRG is just pure stupidity.

To make it more obvious what I mean with some of them, here's a damage line.

Code:
Pet damage------------------------------------------------owner damage

SMN---------PUP-----------------------------BST---------------DRG-----
BST can switch their damage though, so BST can adapt more.

Code:
burst damage------------------------------------------------DPS damage

BLM------------------------------RNG--------------------------------MNK
Now, I know MNK can be burst damage too, but that's with Chi blast for endg-game events. I'm talking abotu exp parties. RNG can deal burst damage too, but not as well as BLM. RNG focus more on DPS through burst damage, in that their range attacks do high damage, but slower attack speed then MNK.

To conclude, you can't compare a fork to a knife. They both can be used as a weapon, but a knife is better at it. At the same time, the fork is better to eat with. Although you can do it with a knife too. You can use them both for either, but they each have something they specialize in. We should all just start saying lolFRK since a fork can't deal as much damage as a knife. Hell, forks must be really gimp. You can't even eat soup with it, so what good is a fork for? With a spoon you can atleast eat and dig yourself out of a prison cell, right?

It's not that people want the jobs to be the same. They want them to be balanced. Very, very different concepts, and you're a retard if you believe them to be equal terms. (Not directed toward Uzor)

An example of awful balance right now would be Ninja compared to the rest of the jobs. If theres one job that can claim to perform more tasks than any other without sacrificing efficiency, it's that one.

Warrior in a support jobless environment is an example of what it means to be balanced. They can play both damage, or tank. While they can more or less freely switch between the two, they can't be doing both simultaneously.

The jobs ARE balanced. If you want to balance them so all "DD" jobs deal equal damage, a lot of jobs would be incredibly overpowered. THF would be extremely overpowered, since it'd be able to deal high damage without taking any damage itself. NIN would be even more overpowered. DRG would also be overpowered. Deal extreme damage while the wyven heals them constantly by subbing WHM.

The jobs are very balanced as they are. The reason people complain they are unbalanced, is that they don't deal the same damage. This would unbalance the game more then it already is. They also don't see the benefits of each job, and thus only complain at the total damage they do.

All this would do is make WAR and MNK gimp. They wouldn't be the top DD jobs anymore, since they'll do the same damage as DRG, without the ability to heal themselves efficiently. And then people would complain those 2 jobs are gimp.

Guess what, its impossible to make everything on equall terms. The jobs ARE balanced as it is. You can't judge something by only one aspect, and you can't say they suck because you saw someone of that job that sucks. All it proves is that you're a retarded noob.

a MMO is 100% impossible to completely balance. The reason is that nothing can be overpowered, since it would ruin the game. Whatever you do, some people will always complain. The reason single player games seem more balanced, is that you can make something overpowered without breaking the entire game. There is a fighting single player game that is extremely balanced. However, this is because they made all characters so incredibly overpowered in a certain aspect, that they all counter aechother and thus makes it balanced. This wouldn't work for a MMO.

Woah, what? Did you skip over what I meant in terms of whats wrong with the balance?

Aspects in different damage types aren't whats unbalanced, as much crying as people would like to do about it. Different applicable roles isn't being unbalanced. Like I said, if theres one job that has a true imbalance to it, it's ninja. All other jobs have to sacrifice something to perform different roles, while Ninja can naturally, at a superb level. Want to DD? Want to Tank? Want to Enfeeble? It's a top job at all three of those, while performing all three at the same time.

If any other job wants to tank, they have to sacrifice damage, with the exception of Paladin(Naturally locked in to /WAR virtually all the time) and Warrior(Due to the subjob system.) If a Dragoon wants to Heal, they sacrifice damage. If a Beastmaster wants to Solo, EXP/Hr goes out the window. If a Monk wants to Chi Blast, Meleeing is not an option. If any other job wants to do a Thiefs role, efficiency is sacrificed. If a Red Mage has to play stungun, they can't use status curing magic white mage benefits.

Most jobs are balanced for the most part. The support job system throws further wrenches into the balance, and for a good deal of the combos, everythings pretty much as good as it can get without going overboard.

However, theres also some pretty unbalanced combos, the weakened kind of unbalanced. Anything Melee/Black Mage is largely pointless. This could be an interesting thing to see tweaked. A Sacrifice in Melee damage to perform some Magic damage. Akin to the difference between Warrior and Dark Knight.

Yeah, I already mentioned that. They have to sacrifice another aspect. The thing is, NIN isn't a top job at all of those. a NIN can DD while taking. Like I mentioned in my post, a NIN's damage comes from speed, very much like all other jobs. All jobs want haste. That's why Dual Wield is usefull for them (NIN). They tank the same way, by avoiding hits with Shadows. And haste affects recast timers, too. That's why they can tank well while dealing damage.

However, a NIN can't enfeeble as well as a RDM. Their enfeebles are set at a fixed ammount. Its not affected by MND or INT, its a fixed rate. Slow II caps at a much higher ammount then a NIN's Slow. Blind reduces accuracy more then a NIN's, and Paralyze paralyzes more then a NIN's. RDM also have higher magic accuracy then a NIN. a NIN also can't gravity, dia, bio etc. So you can't say they are a "top job" of it.

While yes, a NIN can deal high damage while taking, that's because its their job. Their job is to be fast and agile, so tanking with shadows and dealing damage goes hand in hand. That is their job. That's what SE made them. SE made them a DD originally, and their shadows are there for them to avoid taking damage. I do believe SE intended NIN's to deal melee and range damage and pull. The sweet spot for throwing is in melee range, after all. And Mijin Gakure is awesome for when you get a link, since Mijin Gakure removes all hate. Including that of party members (for 3 sec, heh). That's why Mijin Gakuring on HNM's is dangerous. If a HNM dies by DoT during the 3 sec no-hate from Mijin Gakure, you won't get any drops.
