I know that if I make choices against the common opinion, I'm going to be ridiculed and such for it. I've almost gotten used to it, being mnk/rdm in Kanham nearly made me snap.

so I decided to take a break. I was already in windy after helping someone get the Kazham keys, so I grabbed me a rent-a-room, and switched jobs to Warrior. picked me up an awsome spear, and headed out.

now, when I'm ready to start partying, I have club, sword, polearm, abd hand to hand capped, and a weapon for each. yay. we pick up this whm on the way out to the canyon. I have my spear equipped, and he asks me if I want to become dragoon. I explain my current plans to become mnk/sam. he states the wars should use great axes. got on my nerves a bit, but no problem. they were nice, and listened when i said I didn't like Great axes. yay.

now, this has happened to me THRICE MORE in only TWO DAYS. TWO. DAYS. and the last time, the person would just not shut up. I told them i didn't like greataxes, I like spears. they went on to explain how wars have a C or something in spears. I said I didn't give an orcs subligar, I liked them anyways. she then proceeded to talk about how wars had a A+ in great axes, and go into some sort of cult worship over sturmwind.

my point is a common one, but its my char! mine! not yours! I don't pay $13 a month so you can dress me up like a little tailor, you conformist bastard. if you don't like playing with me, A) have leader boot me, B) drop from party, or C) sit your ass down, grab your controller, and try playing the game for FUN, not to tweak out everyone else chars.

end of rant.

Desini, I have no problem with the fact that wars are A+ with GA. Wars do good damage with anything, ranging from a toothpick to a bag containing Oprah's recent expenditures...

The one thing I have to pick at you for is your subjob. I ADMIRE YOUR DESIRE TO BE DIFFERENT AND INDIVIDUAL! But....I want to warn you right now, your invites will become very very very rare to the point that you wont get any unless you can realize a war subjob, or even that sam subjob....just anything except redmage. Now I am not really bashing your SJ.

As much as I respect your individuality in this conformist society of ours, if I were a PT leader in-game and saw you looking for a pt. I would choose ANYTHING besides you because all I care about (as a pt leader) is to make the pt perfect. I wouldn't want some mnk doing so-so damage (monks at your lvl are punished for a while before they get raging fists...then they own for the rest of the game :D ) without having any responsibility to help the pt, like assist in SATA formation, emergency tank, etc.

So, as Sabia said, either find someone who wont mind your awkward subjob or; as I said, work on that samurai subjob (or war :oops: ) otherwise you will not get invites, and that is the sad truth about this game, and probably in RL as well: YOU CANNOT BE DIFFERENT WITHOUT GETTING PUNISHED FOR IT[/b]

and my invites haven't really been all that bad, and rdms only going for three more levels. acctually, i've finnnaly decided to pick up war for those three levels, or at least have it availible and say so in my search comment.
 
Narell is absolutely correct. Now, since this is the flameboard, I am going to be brutally honest.

Great axe and axe are the ONLY TWO VIABLE WEAPON OPTIONS FOR A WARRIOR. If I invite you to a party and you're equipping something else, you're kicked before you know what's going on. Don't give me the nonsense about paying $13 a month, that's bullshit.

Where is vang? I'm surprised he hasn't flamed you for mnk/rdm. And I would defend him to the death if he flamed you.

Here's something about polarms for ya:
Spears are worth as much as shit. The only good type of polearm is a lance, and warriors can't equip lances. Therefore, any spear-using warrior is a gimp.

Don't contribute to the widespread stupidity which is ravaging this game. The reason there is so little "individuality" in this game is because this game does not permit individuality on all levels. Want to use polearms? Play DRG.

Cult worship over sturmwind? Spoken like someone who's never seen it in action.

Do I expect you to change your weapon choice? Nope. I do expect someone else to read this and change their mind.

I like running around in the nude training monsters on my party and I don't like curing my party. Should people tolerate stupid actions just because someone likes/dislikes it? Heck no! :x

lvl 48 war with GAX has 147 skill
lvl 50 war with GAX has 153 skill
lvl 50 war with PLM (spear) has 147 skill

By using a weapon that doesn't match your character's strengths you are giving yourself the equivalent of a 2 lvl penalty in this situation. This isn't even touching on the fact that PLM weapon selection and WS are both weaker than GAX. Totally ignoring your completly worthless sub as well. Individuality is great while your soloing, but this is a team based game. You either do what is best for the team or play a different game. Everyone pays their share of fees, so by your own logic the 5 other people's payments outweigh yours.

The very reason rdm's aren't considered melee dmg dealers is because their best weapon swds is only a B rating.

A)Sadly this isn't always an option, sometimes parties get desperate and have no alternative available. Does this make your poor selection any better? No.
B)This just causes more problems and then no one gets exp simply because you won't do what is best for the party.
C)People don't usually consider exping fun, unless its coming real fast. You are less likely to see fast exp with bad weapon/sub choices. Even if you do miracously manage some decent exp, it could always be better if you stopped being so selfish and learned to work as a team and stop thinking only about yourself.

And seriuosly...what do you think you are getting out of redmage sub?

This comes across as such hypocracy. You get mad when people criticize you for being different, yet here you are doing it as well. You say you will treat them like 'total dipshits' so does that mean we should treat you the same?

This game never pretended to support individuality. You should consider yourself lucky if the people complaining about you actually know why. For every player in a less than optimal job combo, there's someone complaining about it who doesn't know why, other than "That's what the Jp's do", or "I'm higher level than you, noob". In the grand scheme of FFXI eliteness, I place the mindless parrots *below* the nonconformists, just because nonconformists don't actively seek to annoy people. That said, it really is best to leave your creativity at the door when you load FFXI. People don't want new ideas - they want exp chain 5. Mindless repetition w/o any variation is what makes an EXP session fun. Learn your role in that skill chain, and be ready to press the button. Rinse and repeat till you get that glorious fanfare, then lie about a RL issue and log off. That's what levelling is all about.
 
In my opinion MNK/RDM is a great combo, Monk does pretty decent damage anyway, and with all the enfeebles they can do more.

also... if you're trying to level another weapon skill that is underskilled... i expect you to do that in a "skill up party" rather than an "exp party" because it's really annoying. better yet, do it in someone else' party, just not mine. but i'm going to agree w/everyone here.
 
I understand that it's YOUR $13 a month. What you're leaving out is that when you join a party, there are 5 other people there also paying $13 a month. You have a responsibility to them to do your job to the best of your ability. If you're playing war, then you're not doing your job without a greataxe or an axe.

So, the options you have presented are good ones. If I was the party leader, I would boot you (or better yet, just not invite you in the first place). I also wouldn't invite a mnk/rdm. That's just useless to me.

At level 40 and on you will NEVER get an enfeeble to stick. Also, usless you have a refresher, you will have to med very often to regen mp. At that point you have to make a choice on enfeebling vs WS. Either one you choose means that you are sacrificing the abilities of the other making your bad job combo worthless.

HOWEVER, at lower levels weapon combo's aren't THAT big a deal, provided of course that you have your eventual main capped. There are some enemies that a polearm can tear apart. Also, I saw the caps on the Gaxe vs Parm. Where does a 1h axe fall in? I've seen weapon charts for different jobs at different levels, does anyone have a link to one?

Now, while I've got nothing against playing non-standard combos, or wielding lesser weapons until level 33 (when the Lv.100 WS show up for A-rank weapons), if you're doing it past that point you're not gonna get many parties. And yes, while you're paying $13 a month, so are the other 5 people you're partying with, and they're not paying their $13 to party with someone who won't do what works best.

Lemme tell you something. I played MNK/RDM from level 18 to 32, and loved it. Then I broke down, leveled WAR, gave MNK/WAR a try, and my jaw fell off. Enspells and Cure II, while useful, have nothing on Berserk and the STR boosts from WAR. And if you're still playing MNK/RDM at 50 and missing out on Double Attack... Well, it's hard enough getting parties as a MNK/WAR with great equip at that level, I don't wanna think about how hard it'd be as a MNK/RDM.

Back on the topic of Great Axes... Have you tried using them yet? In Yhoator Jungle last night, I was tanking for my party as WAR/MNK with a Great Axe, because I had capped out my Axe, and guess what? Not only was I doing a great job tanking, I was the top damage dealer in the party for about half the battles. The other half was when the DRK used Souleater and Last Resort or the RNG used Barrage. I don't think that's possible with a Polearm, but then again, I can't say I've tried.

Well that's my 2 gil anyway.
 
I would have no problem with a spear using WAR in Tahrongi Canyon. Being that spear is a piercing weapon, it would actually be quite strong versus the many bird mobs that you might fight against in the canyon.

However, I HATE SEEING WARS USING SPEARS VERSUS CRABS IN VALKURM!!! I don't see how they can't realize they are doing half the damage of all the other melee with their stupid spear.
