There is an "I" in spelling though,

So therefore in the law of this, there is no "U" in Dumbass.

But there is a "You" In "You're a dumbass if you subjob sam before level 60."

Even though, at 30, you will have the TP boost(woot, not that great...like what, 1 TP more?) so you get to spam Combo and stuff more =P (a bit more)
SAM also does provide useful STR and DEX. OK VIT, and OK AGI(not that useful, but ok) and also it gives more HP than WAR..

This sub IS good, not the best before 60, but it is doable. /RDM is another thing...however, if you want to be like everyone else, fine, go /WAR. I like how Desini wants to be different in her choice of subjobs, MNK/RDM isn't the BEST, but it provides a bit of usefulness post 32, Enthunder with H2H is pretty fine, and also if they ever take damage, they can cure themselves, saving WHM MP...I'm just pointing out the Pro's of this subjob, but god damn it! Does everyone have to be so negative about EVERY subjob!?
Also, Chi Blast and Chakra effect depending on MND(Spirit in a sense, makes sense to me too) so having that little bit of extra MND from /RDM is ok...but for physical damage is ok, but using the En- spells is probably the only way it can be a bit useful...

However, If I ever play MNK, I might sub either WAR or SAM, WAR mainly because I like voking when the PLD can't voke it, and it went after mages, rng's, drk's, etc. because as MNK, you can at least TAKE a hit..

Lol, im just starting a new one. I will make a post on goodtimes, with updates n such :D

alot of you are missing the point. this topic is about weapons, not subjobs. I know my subjob choices aren't optimal. but you can see that when just searching.

there's no I in team, but there is in "I think I'm going to become a friggen beastmaster" -.-;;

Lol

well if u dont want people to complain about ur retarded sub or retarded choice of weapons, dont whine when u dont get a party or if people dont join.

Simple.

I don't. I've quit parties because members thought my sub was a gimp. I don't mind not getting invites and such. I never complained about not getting invites, just people telling me what to do with my char.

*points to 'u's, and the 'ur'*

I hate the hive mantality that some people have "Put the groups needs before the induvidual"... It's the communism of leveling.

We're all paying 13 bucks a month (Except me, I'm paying 17 >>), therefore all of us are allowed to do whatever we want. No, we do NOT have to do whatever other people want, if that were so this wouldn't be called a game, it would be called freaking work.

Let her have her fun, if you don't like it. Don't invite her. You don't need to tell her why "such and such a weapon is better" or "This is why this subjob is better". I'm sure she's not stupid, I'm sure she KNOWS perfectly well Great Axes would be the best choice (But not the ONLY choice people) and NIN or THF would be the best subjob (but not the ONLY subjob), but she's chose to go down a path that she WANTED TO. An induviduals happiness and eagerness to play the game is more important than a comformist who has no fun because they aren't allowed to try new things.

Let her be.

Ya know of all things i would want to help this person.

But you miss the point. Unless she's going to play solo the rest of her life, she's gonna have to pick a more common subjob. If she ever wants to get passed 60 also.

Go ahead, I dare you. /sea all monk 60-75

hmmm.

And goddamn this selfish attitude about its my momey i can do what I want.
I siaid on this tread before and ill say again.

THERES NO I IN TEAM

FFXI is a MMORPG that requires teamwork.

Thus as Krono put it,

Sure you are paying 13 bucks a month to play, but please bear in mind that this is a team effort. Inviting someone with a retarded combination of subjobs ruins the experience for the 5 other members. These people ALSO pay 13 bucks a month too, and wouldn't like to have their fun ruined either.

A compromise will definately have to be made. If everyone kept that mentality, itd be like a PLD saying they wanna eat a mithkabob cuz they wanna deal more dmg, or a NIN unwilling to use Utsusemi because he doesnt want to pay the cash, or a DRK going all +INT and +MP gear and an underleveled scythe because he wants to cast spells.

As you can see, sure you can take the mentality that since you are paying the money, you should be able to do whatever you like, but if everyone were like that, FFXI would fall apart.

Why must people say that? All I have to say to that is, "If you look closely.. There's a M and an E."

I'm guessing you do know what the whole "There's no I in Team" terminology means right?

...

Well, if you all know me by now, I am one of the MOST INDIVIDUALISTIC players on Quetzalcoatl.

Don't believe me? Search for one of my rants... Use the Search function at the top of the page and enter the key words The Variable Melee.

I'm a major individualist, and a Lv. 66 WAR/SAM, going for Lv. 75... I'm getting up there.

Des...

To be quite honest with you... I think if you're gonna play WAR should LEVEL Great Axe.

Do NOT get me wrong, I'm not saying use Great Axe as your main weapon... I'm saying... keep it leveled...

Reason being... the Breaks...

Recently, I learned Full Break...

You learn it at Lv. 65 WAR... It owns... You break ALL main enemy parameters... Attack, Defense, Accuracy, and Evasion... And it helps out the party ALOT... Afterwards... Follow up with a "Raging Rush" that can do sometimes 800+ damage.

Guess what? As a WAR, as far as weapon skills go... When it gets time to quest for the super-weapon skills, you can do these:

Quested Weapon Skills That Warriors Can Learn:
----------------------------------------------

Retribution : Staff
Black Halo : Club
Steel Cyclone : Great Axe
Evisceration : Dagger
Decimation : Axe
Savage Blade : Sword
Ground Strike : Great Sword
Asuran Fists : Hand-To-Hand
Spiral Hell : Scythe
Impulse Drive : Polearm

Quested Weapon Skills That Warriors Cannot Learn:
-------------------------------------------------

Empyrial Arrow: Archery
Detonator : Marksmanship
Blade: Ku : Katana
Tachi: Kasha : Great Katana

You can get pretty much all the QUESTED weapon skills if you take WAR to 72... The only ones you can't get are the ones that are specific to the three jobs RNG, NIN, and SAM.

You know what? I plan to learn all of those.

I'm leveling Great Axe, Axe, Sword, Great Sword, and Hand-To-Hand as we speak.I just hit Lv. 66 today, and I'm INCHES away from learning "Mistral Axe"... A VERY nice weapon skill that allows you to do Light-Based Skillchains... You throw your Axe like a boomerang, hit the enemy, and catch your axe back in your hand.

...

If you're taking WAR, MNK, or even DRG to the top, I applaud you.

There's only a HANDFUL of American WARs that are taking it all the way to the top... Me, Rolliefingaz, Ziox, Hillie, Tsoni, Wyldarmz, and soon, Kateverlasting will be joining our ranks (I was just telling her everything she needs to do for WAR AF.)

Kateverlasting is raising subs right now... MNK... THF... SAM... NIN...

I'm leveling up as many weapons as I can...

That's the beauty of playing WAR... It's like a RDM, but in Melee form... WAR is good if you're planning to be an "Individualist Melee"... That's the key with WAR... See what me & kat are doing? We're Keeping our options open.

RDM works with the same principle... If you wanna be back up healer, sub WHM... If you wanna be the "Typical RDM", sub BLM... If you want to be the "Buff-O-Maniac", sub SMN with all the Avatars, and you can do Avatar Buffs... Or, if you want to be the "Individualist RDM" like Neogearzx is... Go RDM/DRK (Yes, I thought it was crazy too, Just like "NIN/BLM", but it CAN be done.) ... With DRK sub, I call this the "Enfeeble-Maniac"... He Absorbs the crap out of the enemy, and if I'm not mistaken, he can STUN it too.

As a WAR or a RDM... Most of the time, us "Red-Colored Players" act as more or less of a "Trump Card"... We're there to back up everyone else, we're good at soloing stuff with the right subjob, and if the group's in a pinch, we can come in REALLY handy.

I should KNOW playing WAR like the back of my fuckin' HAND.

...

I'm not trying to force you to use a Great Axe... I'm trying to give you a different perspective of looking at it...

You don't have to be "Generic", you can be "Versatile" like me.

That's all I have to say.

nice info piece, but you forgot some NA Wars :P

All those quested ws are soo nice ; ;

**getting help for ALL of those, let alone gaining 300 points on EACH is  **

that's 3,000 solo WS to get quested WS <.<;;;;;;

or only 600 Lv3 SC ^^;;;

Yes, I said it because it was meant to be a joke. I just dislike it when people use that, damned Cliche.

I think if you're gonna play WAR should LEVEL Great Axe.
this is very wise advice. however, while I was thinking about this, I realized that most of the time, the only reason the parties not making me use a great axe is because I don't have it leveled. I fear that if I had the option availble, I would never get to use anything else, and great axe would become my main weapon. what's your experience with this?

also, two more things. the reason I'm doing this isn't to be 'an individualist,' or at least it isn't on the concious level. the reason is simply that I don't like greataxes, and don't want to see my char using one the whole game (or, at least while I'm leveling warrior).

secondly, and again, this topic isn't about my subjob. so far I haven't ran into big invite problems, or at least any that really bugged me. maybe my mind will change when I do. but for now, I'm not hurting anything with my rdm sub. people can pull up the search list, see mnk/rdm, and go "oh, this person has a gimpy sub. I won't invite them to my party." if they don't want me in thier party.

oh, and I do plan to take monk to the top, if it takes twenty years. I'm a long way off, though ^_^

My experience is that once you get to later levels, you'll be introduced to the wonderful world of: Skill Up Parties... I mean, in the past week, I've had tens upon tens of people asking me to help them do Genkai 1, Genkai 2, or AF missions.

We high-Lvs see these as "Skill Up Parties"... We take this time to join you, and as we're fighting, we're leveling up whatever parameters are "Gimped"...

Like how I joined a skill up party and leveled my Sword and learned "Vorpal Blade".

Great Axe most likely WON'T become your main weapon.

Shit, to be honest with you, the most GENERIC Warrior is WAR/NIN... That's the most COMMON of all Warriors.

However, Great Axe is a weapon you'll switch off to every now and again for de-buffing purposes.

Right now, I'm trying to skill up my Axe for Mistral Axe.

I keep buffing myself with Aggressor, Warcry, and Berserk. And I use Rampage... Possibly the first best "Axe" move...

Rampage = Smack the enemy FIVE times in rapid succession.

The more hits I land, the quicker I can skill it up (Which is why I rely on my mage buddies for "Haste").

Let's say we're fighting something like a Crab, or something that's KNOWN for buffing the crap out of itself and needs a RDM to Dispel it.

I switch to my "Heavy Darksteel Axe" (Great Axe) ... Use my SAM sub and hit "Meditate" (Automatically generates TP... The Ranger equivalent to this would be "Barrage", if I'm not mistaken). Then I smack it with Full Break, which like I said, drastically lowers the enemys ATK, EVA, DEF, & ACC... And this helps the party out GREATLY.

After I've Full Broken it, I switch back to whatever weapon I was using before and continue the fight like that. And as a result of me doing that, the fight ends quickly.

...

As for people not inviting you and things like that? I've experienced that too... It's a price to pay for being a "Rogue" of sorts.

People haven't been inviting me because I "Sub SAM instead of NIN... So I must be a WEAK WARRIOR"... When 95% of the time, whenever I'm partying with a WAR/NIN, I'm out-damaging the ass out of him/her against the mob, and my TP's building so damn fast, they sometimes ask me to "Slow Down"... I've even out-damaged DRKs that are 8 levels higher than me (NON-GIMPED Dark Knights, mind you!).

But I see it as Predjudice. They don't wanna invite me? Screw it.

I started making my OWN parties. And at first I didn't have any confidence in itself. I mean, look at me...

I formed the alliance for my WAR AF3 (Get the Fighter's Lorica by fighting 3 SUPER TOUGH Goblin NMs in Behemoth's Dominion) and used my socializing and organization skills... We OWNED it with flying colors...

I started up the party & alliance for Promyvion. And not only did I beat Promyvion - Holla, Dem, & Mea. I hold the BCNM Boss Battle time record for Holla & Mea (We recorded "Holla" as proof. It's in the General Discussion Board).

Last Sunday, I started yet another alliance to do Bastok Mission 9-1 & 9-2. I made it my personal responsibility to see to it that everyone got Bastok Rank 10. And that night, everyone walked away with Rank 10. Ask Dar, Nightstalker, Yayoi, Varick, Belgarath, Shizzznit, Shosasosa, etc etc.

And both Yesterday, and Today, I started a "Marathon EXP Party" and got a bunch of Experience Points.

...

As a WAR, MNK, or DRG... You'll have to get used to being often "Overlooked" by all the other players... (ESPECIALLY if you're a DRG... I've seen alot of people FLAMING about how much THEY think that "Dragoon Sucks".) ... I guess they see us as the "Lesser Jobs"... But you can do what I do, tell 'em "F**k you, I can manage on my own, I don't need you to put me down."...

Kinda like how I was watching a cutscene after I beat Zeid and got Bastok Rank 10... One of the NPCs... I forget her name, but she was that Elvaan Female goldsmither in Bastok Markets who you have to give a Mythril Ingot at some point (You may know the NPC). Anyway, in the cutscene, she was asked "Do you like Bastok?", and among her reply, she said that being here encouraged her, instead of putting her down, and instead of backing away, she was strengthened and responds with an "I'll show you!!" attitude.

The fact that she's from Bastok is irrelevant, but the point of the matter is her reply.

That's how you have to look at it, in my opinion:

"I'll show you!!"

Just don't let them get you down, instead, show your strength as a player. I was kinda forced into it.

Besides, if the going gets tough, you can always switch to a job that gets to Lv. 75 with EXTREME ease... Black Mage, White Mage... Or most of all... BARD. Hahahahahaha! (Hey! It's true! You KNOW it's true! I've seen you Bards gain levels like there's no damn tomorrow!)

heh. I'm acctually kinda glad MNKs would get overlooked. otherwise everyone would do it. its kinda like being a real monk, total dedication, and all sorts of trials.

I will be subbing SAM at 30, and I'm gonna love it. despite low invites. I'll just farm orcs until I get an invite. If I get bored of that, I'll pop in the little disc that came with the game, watch the intro movie, and be ready to kill orcs for another five days. If my sub sucks as much as some of you say it does and I don't get an invite in months, then by the time I do my equip will be all maxed out with +1's and I'll be able to damage the Fujikistan out of anything ^_^ "I'll show you!"

WAR isn't somthing I plan on taking far, just something I did because I didn't feel like treking across the world for a second time that day. I switched back tonight, after an incident with a certain SAM, who thought I was lying about having a level 27 job because of my shitty equip. disbanded from party, ran my ass to sandy, switched jobs, and choco'd back. can't stand to have anyone think i'm lying... -.-;;

anyways, I'm getting more and more off topic as I write this. I suppose thats another thing I didn't stress: I'm not serious about playing WAR. almost forgot that myself in all of this. its something I did for a bit of fun. I don't think I'm going to spend the time running around and leveling Greataxe for a job I'll rarely play. If I ever take it up seriously, I'll do it though, just to have it availible.
