this is very wise advice. however, while I was thinking about this, I realized that most of the time, the only reason the parties not making me use a great axe is because I don't have it leveled. I fear that if I had the option availble, I would never get to use anything else, and great axe would become my main weapon. what's your experience with this?
My experience is that once you get to later levels, you'll be introduced to the wonderful world of:
Skill Up Parties... I mean, in the past week, I've had tens upon tens of people asking me to help them do Genkai 1, Genkai 2, or AF missions.
We high-Lvs see these as "Skill Up Parties"... We take this time to join you, and as we're fighting, we're leveling up whatever parameters are "Gimped"...
Like how I joined a skill up party and leveled my Sword and learned "Vorpal Blade".
Great Axe most likely WON'T become your main weapon.
Shit, to be honest with you, the most GENERIC Warrior is
WAR/NIN... That's the most COMMON of all Warriors.
However, Great Axe is a weapon you'll switch off to every now and again for de-buffing purposes.
Right now, I'm trying to skill up my Axe for
Mistral Axe.
I keep buffing myself with Aggressor, Warcry, and Berserk. And I use
Rampage... Possibly the first best "Axe" move...
Rampage = Smack the enemy FIVE times in rapid succession.
The more hits I land, the quicker I can skill it up (Which is why I rely on my mage buddies for "Haste").
Let's say we're fighting something like a Crab, or something that's KNOWN for buffing the crap out of itself and needs a RDM to Dispel it.
I switch to my "Heavy Darksteel Axe" (Great Axe) ... Use my SAM sub and hit "Meditate" (Automatically generates TP... The Ranger equivalent to this would be "Barrage", if I'm not mistaken). Then I smack it with
Full Break, which like I said, drastically lowers the enemys ATK, EVA, DEF, & ACC... And this helps the party out GREATLY.
After I've Full Broken it, I switch back to whatever weapon I was using before and continue the fight like that. And as a result of me doing that, the fight ends quickly.
...
As for people not inviting you and things like that? I've experienced that too... It's a price to pay for being a "Rogue" of sorts.
People haven't been inviting me because I "Sub SAM instead of NIN... So I must be a WEAK WARRIOR"... When 95% of the time, whenever I'm partying with a WAR/NIN, I'm out-damaging the ass out of him/her against the mob, and my TP's building so damn fast, they sometimes ask me to "Slow Down"... I've even out-damaged DRKs that are 8 levels higher than me (NON-GIMPED Dark Knights, mind you!).
But I see it as Predjudice. They don't wanna invite me? Screw it.
I started making my OWN parties. And at first I didn't have any confidence in itself. I mean, look at me...
I formed the alliance for my WAR AF3 (Get the Fighter's Lorica by fighting 3 SUPER TOUGH Goblin NMs in Behemoth's Dominion) and used my socializing and organization skills... We OWNED it with flying colors...
I started up the party & alliance for Promyvion. And not only did I beat Promyvion - Holla, Dem, & Mea. I hold the BCNM Boss Battle time record for Holla & Mea (We recorded "Holla" as proof. It's in the General Discussion Board).
Last Sunday, I started yet another alliance to do Bastok Mission 9-1 & 9-2. I made it my personal responsibility to see to it that everyone got Bastok Rank 10. And that night, everyone walked away with Rank 10. Ask Dar, Nightstalker, Yayoi, Varick, Belgarath, Shizzznit, Shosasosa, etc etc.
And both Yesterday, and Today, I started a "Marathon EXP Party" and got a bunch of Experience Points.
...
As a WAR, MNK, or DRG... You'll have to get used to being often "Overlooked" by all the other players... (ESPECIALLY if you're a DRG... I've seen alot of people FLAMING about how much THEY think that "Dragoon Sucks".) ... I guess they see us as the "Lesser Jobs"... But you can do what I do, tell 'em "F**k you, I can manage on my own, I don't need you to put me down."...
Kinda like how I was watching a cutscene after I beat Zeid and got Bastok Rank 10... One of the NPCs... I forget her name, but she was that Elvaan Female goldsmither in Bastok Markets who you have to give a Mythril Ingot at some point (You may know the NPC). Anyway, in the cutscene, she was asked "Do you like Bastok?", and among her reply, she said that being here encouraged her, instead of putting her down, and instead of backing away, she was strengthened and responds with an "I'll show you!!" attitude.
The fact that she's from Bastok is irrelevant, but the point of the matter is her reply.
That's how you have to look at it, in my opinion:
"I'll show you!!"
Just don't let them get you down, instead, show your strength as a player. I was kinda forced into it.
Besides, if the going gets tough, you can always switch to a job that gets to Lv. 75 with EXTREME ease... Black Mage, White Mage... Or most of all... BARD. Hahahahahaha! (Hey! It's true! You KNOW it's true! I've seen you Bards gain levels like there's no damn tomorrow!)
