Today, I went and took the Accuplacer on the suggestion of my mother that, while I could get it waived with my ACT scores, it might be a good idea to take it anyway. If you don't know what the Accuplacer is, Google is your friend.
Anyway, you get your scores back after you finish the test. I looked through it and felt kind of disappointed. I got a 7/8 on my essay (6 is college level) and 106 and 108 on my reading comprehension and sentence structure, respectively (don't have the sheet on me atm, but from what I recall those two were both 70-something and 80-something to be college level). What made me slump was my math score, an 87. College level would have been a 109. At the bottom they listed the recommended courses, and under math was Math Skills 4 out of 4 or something of that nature. My spirits were raised when the test administrator reassured me that this was actually better than most students (apparently most students get somewhere in the 30s). Even my statistics teacher assured me that it wasn't all that bad.
I got home some time ago, and got ready for Limbus as I usually do on Wednesdays. My mom comes home around the beginning of the Limbus runs, and asks to see my scores. I show her them, and she doesn't look dissatisfied at all. I take it as a good sign and go back to focusing on FFXI.
Moments later my dad barges into my room. He wants to know "why the fuck are you taking a fucking remedial class". He then spends the next twenty or so minutes yelling at me asking me how "the fuck you could be so stupid" and how "you're a lazy piece of shit who never studies". Seeing as we're in the middle of a Limbus run, I try to balance out between listening to him and making sure the mages are still refreshed. He then tries to reason that the reason he keeps tossing insults at me is because "that's how you talk to your friends, I don't see why I can't do the same" and soon threatens to "break your goddamn TV in half if you don't stop playing". When he sees me stop, he says how "he had to use forceful language to get me to listen", disregarding the fact that he just threatened to do something violent and unnecessary.
Eventually he walks out and I'm kind of in shock. I mean, where does he get off telling me all this shit about how useless I am? And who am I to believe was right, an immigrant who has some college-level education or my own instructors?
There are times when I don't get my parents, but this really takes the cake.

You're father is right, you do call people stupid. Never knew you did so for you're friends, but when you do it for people like... Oh say me, it's probably different.

If you can still play FFXI while undergoing a 20 minute lecture from you're father, that's a sign of addiction on you're behalf. Personally i dislike outside interferences while I'm playing RDM in a party, but there comes a time when you should stop for a moment, in this case to better end the conflict you were having with you're father.

Had you been trained differently you would respectfully put the game down while you're Father was barking at you. He probably would have barked less in that case. All and all good job on you're test. It seems to be wrong for you're father to bitch about such a thing. Be you're own man, and do it well. But don't forget you're an ass too.

I know I'm an asshole, you don't need to remind me, but considering he hasn't even met anyone I hang out with outside of a few people, I don't think he has a right to make that kind of comment (and no, I don't call my friends stupid, check your facts).
And no, I don't really think I have an addiction to the game. I'm sorry if I feel I need to keep helping even marginally with the run even while my father's shouting at me, and I would've been more than willing to put the game down and talk to him had I been doing something that wasn't timed (say, exp or sky).
And what's this about "trained"? Do you know how I was raised? Were you there watching me when I was growing up? I'm not saying that they were lax parents, but they most certainly weren't overly strict either. I know when it's time to have a serious discussion with my father, but this time I felt he was waaay in the wrong with his entire arguement.

Beat him with an iron pole.

I jest, but really, what the fuck? I made LOWER then last time, because I just did the test for shits'n giggles.

That's some bullshit, imo.

I can't tell you to do what I would do, because I forced myself to be on the same speaking level as my parents, but I would have really rampaged if my, say, stepdad came in giving the same threats.

But hey, look at it this way, you're still fucking smarter then me, (78...lulz mathritics).

This quote did not surprise me

It was written from you're hand. If it was false you should have said so.

Sometimes you gotta let the PT know you're enduring a fight with a family member. If i had a child, i would have a hissy fit if they kept on playing their video game while i was freaking out. Although freaking out is not my way.

I don't need to watch you grow up to see how you are. You've already proven to me that you can cast insults before thinking. See how you're Father goes on about "I can cast insults at you cause you do it to you're friends". This type of handling is poor. Hell, he has you venting here. In many cases those who cast insults are the ones who absorbed some kind of mental abuse when they were younger. As they always say. We have to pay for our parents mistakes. But in truth it's up to us to clean it up.

I'm a grown man, and I'll tell you, I'm glad my parents busted my ass when i was out of line. As a grew older i did retaliate, and i did it respectfully. I haven't any desire to label you or you're father. But soon you won't be a boy living with you're parents. And if you want more flexibility. Stand up and look you're old man in the eye and talk to him face to face rather than sticking you're head in the PC, and in short he'll nag you less. If you don't stand up and give him the hawks eye while clashing, it'll never end. If you do give him the stare and tell him you can take whatever you please in school, the fighting will still persist, but it will not last long.

You are a prick, so is you're old man. Maybe in a different way, but others can easily put you both in the same category.

If you are 18 and younger, then you should have paid attention to your father, especially since you're still living in his home. He might have handled it wrong, but you could have ended it much quicker if you would have just taken care of buisness with him.

Sometimes you gotta let the PT know you're enduring a fight with a family member. If i had a child, i would have a hissy fit if they kept on playing their video game while i was freaking out. Although freaking out is not my way.
No, you just act like you're better than anyone else because you might happen to have an extended vocabulary. I fear for your children since they will most likely end up being belittled at every whim by dear ol' Daddy.

I'm a grown man, and I'll tell you, I'm glad my parents busted my ass when i was out of line. As a grew older i did retaliate, and i did it respectfully. Case in point; you're no better than Xalioniaf or his Dad, but you're awful quick to judge the both of them.

I'd suggest getting off this train at the next stop Anttaru; it's going to go the way of your Nibiru theories.

Xal, your dad was truly out of line with how he reacted.

I'll agree with one thing Ant said, though; continuing the Limbus run was not in your best interest at that time. When all is said and done, Papa can pull the plug on the Internet.

First. I never said i was better than anyone. And anyone who reads my writing on the regular knows i had to say that many times before, and i probably sound like a broken record to them by now.

Second. I do not agree with Xalioniaf's Fathers way. It's his Father that cuts him. I say i wouldn't like for my children to disrespect me, nor is freaking out my way, and now you fear for my children ? Please elaborate.

Third. Try approaching me without roughing me up. My attitude towards Xalioniaf is based on how i was treated by him in the past. If you want to support that it's on you.

Again i never said i was better than anyone. I have my bad habits, need I level the playing field and list them for you so you can sing i different tune now ?

Oh yes i nearly forgot, you must have a grudge after that time you attacked me, meanwhile there was a slew of members including Xalioniaf's good friend disrespecting YOUR Christianity, and who was sticking up for you're religion ? ME. You think throwing my beliefs in my face is some sort of weapon ? I'd reckon you're a coward. Too coward to stand up for you're beliefs because it would have forced you to stand by my side for a sort while.

I also stated what his father did was wrong. So make that 2 things you agree with that i said. The one thing you don't agree with is me saying that both Xalioniaf and his Father are pricks.

Even Xalioniaf thinks Xalioniaf is a prick. But you Tristam, you have a grudge against me for reasons you find difficult to explain. I'd like to invite you to reveal these reasons to us all. But not here, this is Xalioniaf place, so lets not make this about me. If you want to hit me, go to the flame board, or go bump the Nibiru thread if this is about that.

For someone "always thinking" you sure seem to not know when to shut that mouth of yours.

Xalioniaf did not ask for a dissertation about why he's a bastard prick from Hell. He simply stated "man, I can't believe my Dad lit off on me after my Mom didn't have any problem with my scores".

Do I believe he was right in continuing refreshing the mages in Limbus while his Dad was lighting off? No. Do I believe his Dad was justified in lighting off on him in the first place? No. Holy shit, stop the presses, there are two things we agree with. Let's move along.

Everyone handles being yelled at differently. When my Mom would yell at me, it got my attention, I knew she meant business, and I'd snap to. If my Dad would yell at me though, it wouldn't faze me in the slightest, because he would do the same things over and over: yell, get increasingly louder, but wouldn't look me in the eye consistently. It was ineffective, and I'd piss him off even more by remaining calm through his yelling sessions (not often). Don't reply to anything said about my parents even though I know you want to so badly, because to tell the truth, it'll only piss me off even more.

As for the whole belief thing: Standing up for my beliefs is the exact reason why I don't like you. Don't even attempt to say you were sticking up for my religion or belief structure, because you weren't. You were attempting to stretch it so that it suited your needs, you got called on it, and as such, people started thrashing both of our beliefs.

yeah we've long since established that anttaru is pretty narrowminded

I agree with Anttaru, you do have to face him eventuallly just like I'll have to face my parents one day. I also agree with Trist that he was out of line as well, but whatever is between Trist and Ant should be dealt with in pms. Not trying to be a prick but it wont help much here in trying to help Xal.

Something that made this OP a little onesided was the lack of information about how you treat your friends, you say you're an asshole.

Why? Who do you act an asshole to? Is it justified? If not could that indirectly be the cause of the anger your father feels? The father appears to be the dominant person in the marriage, has he always been like this or is it just this time. Since you were so suprised that he talked that way I'm assuming it was the first? Pent up rage can be ugly and can come from a lack of communication between parent and child, so when one thing happens it's intensified and usually isn't favorable.

Maybe you need to spend some time with your parents, it sounds like you don't talk/associate with them enough or at all if you don't bring your friends over or they haven't met them(why?).

I know how you feel Xal, I'm going through the same phase with my parents. A thing good and bad parents have in common, the tendency to be hypocritical to prove a point whether right or wrong.

I don't think either of you were entirely right or wrong based on the event.

For someone "always thinking" you sure seem to not know when to shut that mouth of yours.

Show me where i gave any reason as to why he is, as you say, "a bastard prick from hell". Or anything along those lines.

He scolded me in the past, i give him a little tap on the wrist, and now i have you going ape shit on me. Of coarse things between you and i are personal, am i right ?

As if i denied it. Why repeat yourself ?
At least you can start moving along now, it took you awhile to note the obvious, when you stop repeating yourself and catch up with the rest, let me know.

Ah Hate. This is why you fail to defend yourself and continue to cast stones at me.

To be more accurate, i was standing up for the highest, and the Bible. I also stated how they should respect people and their beliefs, INCLUDING CHRISTIANS. It's no different if it were about Muslims or Buddha.

Tristam Green said:

You just said "Standing up for my beliefs is the exact reason why I don't like you."

(I'm narrow minded Tagrineth ?)

Stretch what to suit my needs ? Anyone in that thread can tell you how i stated, "thrashing others beliefs is "wrong" There is no convenience in me having to ask people to respect others beliefs.

It all started when i said the laws in the Bible are designed for our protection, I was responding to Celvantes who is a believer. Next thing you know i have 3 or 4 people coming at me about Christianity and there is no God.

I never tried to convert anyone, as i know i haven't the power to do so, but i did state, bashing peoples religious beliefs is wrong, i also included Christianity. It's not the first time some of those people bashed Christians on these boards either, so don't fool yourself into thinking that i created friction between them and you're belief. The least i can do is mention disrespecting others beliefs is a bad thing. I would be a hypocrite to not include Christianity, as THEY and YOU and YOUR FRIEND brought Christianity to the conversation and THEY started to pick it apart. You think i was ashamed of myself at all ? Nope, but you would have been and obviously you think i was ashamed.

Also you were already breathing down my neck before the religious debate began, as a Christian you are not suppose to fear deny revelation, it indicates weakness in you're faith. And when the religious debate begun, what did you do ? You join them in tackling me, ignoring the fact they were disrespecting you and you're kind of people. CHRIST would tell you you've made a poor judgment call.

I do understand how i pissed you off, it's not my fault you can't keep you're cool when a topic has you bugging out as it was regarding revelations.

You're heart is filled with resentment, and it's below what the Bible teaches. To deny that is no different than saying what the Bible teaches is it's proper to be negative. I don't stand for you. I stand for people who practice their beliefs.

I was feeling for you cause you're just a youth, you shouldn't fight me. (If I'm wrong you're doing a heck of a job fooling me.) Now i just pity you.

And for the second time. Let's not make this thread about me, if you want to strike me, Make a flame listing you're reasons for bashing me, or bump the Nibiru thread. This space is suppose to be reserved for Xalioniaf's replies, not you're selfish desire to silence me.

Meh I got my first and only D in 4th grade and my mom flipped out and grounded me. Then I went to my dad and talked to him and explained to him why I got a D and he told me to go outside and play. My family was fucked up in the sense that my two younger brothers were favored by my mother and my father favored me since I was the oldest. Good thing whatever my dad said was law so I got off of being grounded more than a handful of times since my father and I understood that my mom flew off the handle often.

is it just me or do some of these posts look like they need to be in the fb? >.>
