Today, I went and took the Accuplacer on the suggestion of my mother that, while I could get it waived with my ACT scores, it might be a good idea to take it anyway. If you don't know what the Accuplacer is, Google is your friend.
Anyway, you get your scores back after you finish the test. I looked through it and felt kind of disappointed. I got a 7/8 on my essay (6 is college level) and 106 and 108 on my reading comprehension and sentence structure, respectively (don't have the sheet on me atm, but from what I recall those two were both 70-something and 80-something to be college level). What made me slump was my math score, an 87. College level would have been a 109. At the bottom they listed the recommended courses, and under math was Math Skills 4 out of 4 or something of that nature. My spirits were raised when the test administrator reassured me that this was actually better than most students (apparently most students get somewhere in the 30s). Even my statistics teacher assured me that it wasn't all that bad.
I got home some time ago, and got ready for Limbus as I usually do on Wednesdays. My mom comes home around the beginning of the Limbus runs, and asks to see my scores. I show her them, and she doesn't look dissatisfied at all. I take it as a good sign and go back to focusing on FFXI.
Moments later my dad barges into my room. He wants to know "why the fuck are you taking a fucking remedial class". He then spends the next twenty or so minutes yelling at me asking me how "the fuck you could be so stupid" and how "you're a lazy piece of shit who never studies". Seeing as we're in the middle of a Limbus run, I try to balance out between listening to him and making sure the mages are still refreshed. He then tries to reason that the reason he keeps tossing insults at me is because "that's how you talk to your friends, I don't see why I can't do the same" and soon threatens to "break your goddamn TV in half if you don't stop playing". When he sees me stop, he says how "he had to use forceful language to get me to listen", disregarding the fact that he just threatened to do something violent and unnecessary.
Eventually he walks out and I'm kind of in shock. I mean, where does he get off telling me all this shit about how useless I am? And who am I to believe was right, an immigrant who has some college-level education or my own instructors?
There are times when I don't get my parents, but this really takes the cake.
