..I just thought it might be kinda cool to share and open up the forum for any questions people might have about the new jobs. There might be some helpful info I could offer in your journey to 75/beyond. Thanks to everyone who I partied with who made this possible. If not here, feel free to hit me up ingame if you have any new job questions.

At first I was like, 'these jobs have been out forever, who cares?' Then I saw the levels, and my jaw hit the ground. You managed to get three jobs to 75 in 8 months, whereas I have managed to get one job to 59 in three years. Damn. (Well, to be fair, I also have a 54. That's right ladies, high roller over here.)

On topic: How was leveling PUP towards the end? Was it a bitch to get invites?

Out of any of those jobs I wouls level it would have been blu, but I am most curious about PUP. Also, how many BLU spells have you accumulated.

I have all the BLU spells and all the attachments except Schurzen (anyone wanna cut me a deal on it?).

PUP I actually soloed until my 50s, well, PL'd. It could have been done solo with slower exp/hr since the mage automaton is pretty useful when soloing.
To be honest I went into the job knowing it was going to be subpar to what are considered "top tier" jobs, but I wanted to play it for fun so that didn't matter.

The job is pretty technical. Everything you do is based on how you customize your automaton's attachments and what maneuvers you use. Think of PUP as a one man bard supporting his pet. Some cominbations of maneuvers/attachments are just wickedly powerful which makes it fun.

Invites did slow down a lot 65+. Once the sharpshot frame gets its "Daze" WS, PUP can be a very good damage dealer against Colibri/flying mobs (but you get the WS about the same time you can EXP off birds so it is quite convenient). After the bird camps die off, PUP has a harder time partying since they lose that damage bonus against flying, and Valkurm Mire imps constantly give amnesia which stops you from being able to buff your pet (and stupidly, prevents the ranger frame from being able to use ranged attacks) in addition to the various aoes in that area. There are alternatives to the mire, but not many popular ones. Another big problem is at about 65 PUP is very far behind MNK in terms of H2H skill. This makes your damage output drop fairly significantly and forces you to rely more on a pet that is also falling behind other melee. Not a good combination. An endgame WS and a couple enhancements could take care of this though.

Yeah I played PUP for a little when it first came out and got a bit bored of the job, mainly because my solo play was really about BST, I'm still impressed time to time when I would run into PUPs soloing up in sky or in toau and was kind of curious.

Congratulations bytharwai

Matt there are 100/100 blu spells if that was also part of your question >.> And yeah pup acctually sounds kind of fun, I might try it out sometime for shits and giggles. But i do have questions...I've pt'd with some pups low lvl and high lvl, and at low lvls it seems they have VERY shitty equipment options, mainly like mage shit. And at higher lvls all ive seen is them wearing is their af, is that any good?? (yeah i know there is that new salvage gear, but that would be out of my reach)

grats liefe, glad to see you recovered from the subligar incident ^^

I have one since blu is fairly new can you tell me about blue mage spell "caps"

with some exceptions of head butt and maybe healing breeze to 75 what spells that are good once you get them but after a certain lv you shouldnt use anymore ie Kyrial mentioned using bludgeon in the 50s was outdated or something along those lines(i think)

how does the self sc work it just doesnt make much sense to me

Would take to long to tell how long to use each spell, but as for bludgeon, it is an excellent spell for very little mp, i still use it at 75...and people that dont, need to start.

And self skillchaining is very simple. Chain affinity, weapon skill, wait a sec or two, physical spell. If you want to MB, chain affinity, burst affinity, ws, physical spell, magical spell. You have to choose whether you like SCing, or using the TP in the spell. Just say a 100% chain affinity frenetic rip can do alot of damage, so self-scing is very situational. (all chain affinity does is basically turn the next physical spell into a weapon skill, the only difference is that you can do this "weapon skill" with zero TP)

Baaahaha, this noob hasn't even unlocked war yet!

I am curious, how well do you parse with PUP on merit parties and versus what types of jobs? I've heard conflciting stories where PUP did really well and was able to hold it's own (usually those are lower level PUPs) or PUP just gets owned outright. My friend and linkshell member is in the mid-fifties and seems to be doing very well on the damage aspect and outparsing many of the "in" jobs, but then again, that's not a merit type situation.

I really wish i could parse (on ps2 =/ ) But i saw a 75 pup in a merit pt with me that (after the update) was doing very nice damage. He would hit about 40-50 a fist, his puppet (rng type) would hit 100+ a shot, Daze ws would hit about 500, and his would hit about 250. This was done in the mire, but i was still very impressed.

The PUP AF is very good. The gloves are indespensible. The feet have some STR and remove status effects from the pet when you use repair. The body, gives your pet 20 HP/MP and gives the master some much needed accuracy that you can't get from another piece at the level you get it. The head is trash honestly, outside of recovering HP/MP while resting during downtime. The legs are awesome when they are used with the mage frame and add 40-50 HP cured from Cure4.

There are very few gear options for PUP and that is a pretty bad problem. At high levels it can use Barbarossa and Pahluwan, aside the salvage stuff. Would be nice if it could use D.Abj set since they gave access to Ushukane though..

Mmm..Bludgeon starts to suck around level 40. Most physical spells start to suck about 15-20 levels past when you get em. By the time you get Mandibular Bite, you can toss Bludgeon for good. You could also get rid of Pinecone bomb about lv50 as well.

Head Butt isn't all it's cracked up to be either 60+. The stun becomes more unreliable vs EXP mobs and I see a lot of BLU just spam it because they think a lot of possible stuns is a good idea. It's useful moderately but you don't need it in all situations.

PUP can't really be as an effective TP burn job as WAR,MNK,NIN due to the fact that the master is very weak and the pet gains TP very slowly compared to the above mentioned jobs. I honestly couldn't imagine playing it without level 8 H2H merits, it would be ridiculous. I do about 350-500 100%TP dragon kicks vs the IT mamools in merit, macroing in a Thunder Gorget for WS (seems to help with the accuracy a lot). Sharpshot frame does about 425-450ish. Haven't merited the automaton yet. It wasn't anything like a ridill WAR or a blackbelt MNK, but it wasn't bad. The Daze stun is pretty significant and Flashbulb really helped out too. PUP would be pretty good vs flying monsters in merit I'd imagine.

Haven't run a parse yet, but I kinda dread doing so. I'll have to do that sometime soon.

Well uh, i think bludgeon is still very effective at 75 (even though the 3-hit giving the mob more tp is no good), i also still use pinecone bomb, ive slept IT mob links in exp pt's with it, so i wouldnt toss it. And about head butt, i dont know what the hell your talking about. Any blu that removes head butt from their list automatically fails. In exp pt's my head butt lands about 95% of the time and the stun is extremely useful. Especially soloing...

I dissagree xD 180 damage for 180 MP is good in the lvl 40 exp camps too... while yes, giving the mob 30 TP might not be a blast, but if you're going for pure damage, bludgeon does the work on lvl 40 camps too unless you're fighting beetles

Do you even use the Valoredge or Harlequin frames anymore? I'm currently at 26 PUP and plan to do more with it, but probably more in solo or duo play. I won't have the Stormwalker frame until I hit 30 (saved it for last since I could still skill up my magic with the Harlequin frame).

I'm sure the Stormwalker will help soloing, but I'm still wondering about the Valoredge. Does it's DEF ever improve? After 75 lvls of BST I'm used to hiding behind my pets, but automaton's don't take a hit as good as a charmed mob.

Read what I said. I never said head butt is a bad spell; there is a time and a place for it. Just because it is a useful spell doesn't mean it should be on your list at all times. Take it as you will.

edit: And no, Bludgeon is not effective at 75. It is garbage.

The pet defense doesn't really go up as significantly as you might think, though Equalizer helps a lot if you use earth maneuvers. The best defense for your pet even at 75 is the Flasbulb though, imo. That instant flash has saved my pet many a time from bad WS.

Valoredge was my main choice in mire. Sharpshot can't use ranged attacks when amnesia is on and Cannibal Blade is really nice to recover from AOE attacks.

If you are looking to solo, Storm/Harle frame is definitely going to be the best I would imagine. I haven't played with it too much since I was 70+ though since if I really wanted to solo I could do it a little more efficiently on other jobs.

Well I did merit with a pup a while back and ran a parser, it should be noted the pup was only lvl 74 I think and did not seem to have very expensive gear, the PT was in the mire and the pup was using the pld type puppet and spamming flash.

My wyvern outparsed both the puppet and it's master. I don't remember the exact numbers(wish I had saved them ><) but I remember being very suprised. Wyverns usually seem to parse between 2-5% in most PTs so maybe the pup and it's puppet were combining for around 5-10% of the PT damage maybe. I'm sure pups can probably do better but it seems like they need a lot of work to be effective. Good thing pups can solo.

I'd like to parse with a stronger pup sometime, complete with merits and stuff and this time maybe save the results :).
