I'm installing windows xp home edition and I'm quite stuck from the beginning.

When the computer rebooted, it asked which Os to start: Xp pro or Xp setup. I don't want pro because that's my old OS and I'm trying to wipe it along with everything on my PC for this new XP. when I pick xp set up, I don't get anything except a blank black screen with a little white _ blinking at the top left.

I'm then left with pressing F8 for advanced options or troubleshooting for the following:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/ Networking
Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA Mode
Last known good configuration
Directory Services Restore Mode (windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failutre

Starts windows normally
reboot
return to OS choices menu

The last paragraph doesn't do anything for me, reboot gets me back to where I am, start windows normally gets me back to my computer the way it was, and OS choices back to before.

I'm googling my ass off right now looking for windows xp walk through's to work with this. Other then that I don't want to play around with it because knowing me I'd fuck it up.

That stuff will only come up if you didn't do a quick or full format on the drive during installation.

Put CD in again, reboot hit a key to autorun CD and try installing again.

But make sure you at least delete any volumes / partitions on your drive. And create a new NTFS partition and format / install on that.

Off topic: Why are you downgrading? D;

(Hate home edition, so limiting to manage).

I figured it out after looking on google and asking some friends. I had to configure my BIOS so that when I reboot I start from my cd rom and not my hard drive. I got everything figured out and I'm almost done.

Prince, I downgraded because my computer is fucked and I was just using this to wipe my old OS clean making a fresh start... didn't have the recovery disks so no other option I believe. I didn't mind, I don't do much on my PC at all other then FFXI, average internet navigation, etc.

Doesn't matter, as soon as Windows 7 comes out I'll be all over that.
