I'm currently installing the game :D

If I were you I'd link your card details to your account now while it isn't busy. SE themselves have said they expect it to go down at some point.
 
Hmmm... yeah, if my local computerstore would actually have the retail...
(Pre-Ordering the CE to have it sooner and they aint getting it on time, how nice!!)
 
I torrented it. The servers go up/are up for updates already. However they only have the PAL version up currently so I'm not sure if it will be worth anything for you NA players. I just wanted to get the updates over and done with before having to do it against a bunch of over people. Which takes me double the time against most others for whatever reason. I'll give you the link if you want though?
 
Just for people who want to know. I've completed one patch already which took around 1 min. On the second patch which is around 400MB big. Using the torrent method to download this though as it's still faster than SEs right now. However it was going loads faster than the beta client. The torrent way I'm getting around 200-500KB/s the SE downloader is getting around 100KB/s.

I imagine that may be a lot slower come tomorrow though. If you are PAL I suggest torrenting it to get the patches out the way.

It's not like I can play until tomorrow though. I still probably need my CD key. I recommend assigning your card details and other stuff asap though. Knowing SE it'll be up and down all week.
 
What is this about PAL version I keep reading everywhere?!
NTSC, PAL or SECAM only come in to the picture these days for analog television broadcasts.
As far as I know the modern game consoles, DVD and BD players completely stepped away from that principle.
And since we're talking about the PC version of the game PAL, NTSC and SECAM are completely moot anyway.

As far as the ISO goes, I thought all versions were the same and only the registration codes mattered when it comes to linking the game to your SE account.

Well if that's the case (I just saw the guy who uploaded it made a huge point about it being PAL which is why I thought it was something of a deal) I'll PM you guys the link if any of you want it? Don't know if I'm allowed to post it publicly.
 
I'll wait for retail, I have very bad experiences with torrented games, especially those coming up just before the game hits retail.
Trojans and other shit almost always being hidden somewhere in the package.

Chance is I won't be playing it for the first two or three weeks after release anyway since SE likes to do server maints during EU prime.
(Yes I expect near daily maintenance at least in the first month of the game.)

As far as the PAL thingy goes though;
I think the guy releasing this ISO means to say it's the European version.
Which may be an issue, I simply do not know for sure if we'll all be getting the same DVD or if SE indeed did make a distinction between the continents while pressing the disks.
I think he was simply trying to look interesting by shouting something which is actually completely unrelated to PC technology.

Well, I'm just guessing he didn't really know that it doesn't mean anything. The guy himself is someone I know from FFXIVcore. He's from Australia and they use Europe as their region when it comes to SE anyway apparently. He said it shouldn't make much difference however, guess he was just covering his back in case someone from America went "omg it doesn't work"

Edit: Bah, figure I'd only get this far! At least I'm ready for tomorrow!

I got a phone call at about 12pm saying if you got the CE from gamestop, come pick it up since its going live tonight instead of waiting to get the game tomorrow. Installed and ready for server crashes! <3
 
hmm maybe because of the area I live in? I'm like 10 miles from NYC.
 
The man at gamestop wouldn't give me my collectors edition, but they are in the store (atleast first thing tommorow I will have it!) ;; Since SE states the release date is technically tomorrow.

All I ask is why is SE taunting us with this:

Ok just an FYI to you guys. If you want to use the monthly payment option rather than the crysta(sp) or payment cards, you'll have to use a third party company called Click and Buy. I have used these before on another site and they were fine from what I remember. However a few people are freaking out about possible account hackings etc.

If you want to feel really safe there is a limit on how much click and buy can take out of your account per month. I've set my to £20.00 for instance as I know I won't need anymore than that as I'm only using that card for FFXIV. That way if any shit does go down, at least your card won't get raped.

Better to be safe than sorry.
 
I wonder if Gamestop is doing a midnight release for FFXIV... I should check
