Interesting view on religion

Personally, I don't believe in god. I see religion as a wonderful idea. It's incredibly useful to raise children with, teach them proper morales and instil within them a fear of the afterlife. I was raised like this.

My personal belief is that there is no reason for life. We're just a cosmic unbalance that suddenly went right and poof here we are.

The world and universe and anything else in between is so complex. You can't even fully understand the human body without spending years in school.

What I'm trying to get at is that we all know so much that it some times clouds what we don't know. Instead of focusing on whether or not a particular religion is right, we should be focusing on the real problems at hand:

How can I raise my children to be functional citizens?
What can we do to stop the endless wars we create?
If love is blind, and love is free, then why do so many die lonley?
Why did this man kill thirty seven people and not even think to regret it?

The world is far too complex with as many minds we have in it right now. I'm sure if all of us were to sit down, given unlimited power, we could solve all the worlds problems. It's rather simple, the US could end world hunger if we cut money from our military budget, and we would still be a world power. But that's it, isn't it? Power, money, success, fame.

Maybe we're meant to suffer.

The problem is that most of those wars are in the name of a "God/Gods."

Actually, most wars have a million reasons why they are started. People like to label them holy wars because it's easier to understand.

No most wars are in the name of God. If not, then they are started because of political fueds.

Do you know what the #1 killer of all time is? It's not aids. It's not smoking, nor is it drunk driving.

The #1 Killer of all time is "The name of God."

For thousands of years people have been dying for this.

MY statement is purly opinional but when someone can PROVE all that stuff really happened I'll believe it. It's just like anything that happed before our existence. No one knows for sure they just have beliefs.

Yup. Same reason they get mad when you call the bible fictional is the same reason we would get mad when they try to force the bible on to us.

Its that what we are preaching is not considered "proven" by all. ^^

Just pointing that out for you to hopefully keep an open mind.

You're wrong. Forcing an opinion is one thing and stating one is another. I never say it unless people ask what I think of it. After I say it I'm done while they try to push their shit into my brain. Being hypocritical to their own beliefs.

The only reason you "feel" your being forced is because your on the recieving end. Its the same for them when they see or hear you say the things you say. I'm sure they "feel" they simply say their peace and let you be.

In actuality you can't "force" it down anybodys throat if they don't want you to. Nobody's holding that door open, and nobodys making you read it, But that wont stop peoples feelings being hurt on both sides of the fence either.

If parties on BOTH sides understood that, and stopped running around PREECHING well then maybe either side wouldn't feel they are being "forced" at all now would they?

I've never told anyone what they should do or if they didn't do those they would suffer in afterlife. Not once. However, religous people seem to love to tell me that or beat around that bush. Hell, I've even saw battles between churches. It's quiet sad. I support people and their beliefs but it's just to much for them to do the same. Maybe it's just around me that this happens? I doubt it. I couldn't force my beliefs upon anyone or I'd be commiting the same act of hypocrisy I accuse them of and Homie don't play that :p Practice what you preech and walk your talk. Also, it's not common practice for my type to preech. I've been around a lot of people and not once have I saw anyone without religious beliefs preech the matter. While I think their preeching is in good spirits, though it may be cruely spoken, it really is unnecessary and they have a problem grasping that. I'm just vey thankful my family does not fall in the catagory of the preeching religous type. We have one thing we all commonly follow in my family. Wether your methodist, baptist (sp?), etc and that is be the best person you can be and in the end you'll be right where you need to be. My father instilled values to me through discipline and showing me how to act through his actions. Not through religion though religous he is.

People always get mad when I call it "The best selling fictional book ever to be written"

Well ok... Lemme put it like this.....

Nobody asked you to call the bible fictional here but then you did. :P

Is this not like preeching, its pretty much what alot of people would not want to read. Even though I'm not highly religious, well.. .I'm not even relgious, but anyway when I see something like that well...

It just screams out to be argued with. :D

Preeching is basically telling someone they need to do something or how to do something. Me stating the bible is fictional in my eyes is far from preeching.

Pascal, that story was probably made to make the people at those times be scared of God in order to follow him. In such a primitive age, I don't doubt this to be the truth.

The Bible has a lot of fables and fantastical stories. You don't have to believe them, you just have to learn from them. One thing the article forgot to say, is how can someone living in one single place be able to get one of every species when there are other species of animals that weren't discovered yet in other parts of the world? It's a very simple way to find out how untrue this story is, but then it forces you to try to know why it was made in the first place.

The same as with Adam and Eve. If this story were true, then incest would be the only way to have spawned all of us. Also, Adam, born from the earth, would be black, and Eve, born from his rib, would be white. Say hello to the first interracial relationship. Do I believe it? Certainly not. Am I still Catholic? Absolutely.

I will not have my faith shaken because of a few discrepancies, because I know for a fact that God exists.

Really wasn’t attempting to shake anyone’s faith or to disprove god. Religious teachings tend to be adopted as cultures interact and mix with each other. I just though I’d post an example of how just because it is said in the bible doesn’t mean it was a factually event. Religious writings are there to teach lessons, rather than be a historical account.

lol, I said the shaking of faith in general, not at you. And I agree with you on your last statement.
