Interview with IGE

WOW. NIce infomation.

I still think gill-selling is wrong. Part of the game play is to make money. YEs it is hard,tiring, and repeatitive. But it also givesa person time to learn things. Game controll, skill-ups, food effects, WS useage, what your job can and can't not do,etc.

If people don't have solo time to try and learn new things, they might try in a party. Then who nows what will happen. People wonder why there are such unskilled players at higher levels.

Some people want to fast track throught he game, one way is to buy gill, and not learn "how to play the game".

Well, it definately is better PR then they have been getting. Although, if he had specifically said 'we take no part in archer ring camping' I would have felt a bit better.

Guys, don't believe him. He is lying through his teeth.

In business, you are trying to make a buck at all times. Mr. Salyer knows that IGE will never be reprimanded for buying gil from the players who employ dastardly tactics, and so he is certainly doing so. Can you think of a legitimate gil seller anyway? They are either running a bot, MPKing, or playing 24/7 which requires account-sharing, which is against the ToS. The only people who don't fit into this category are people who sell their account and items right before they quit, and I highly doubt IGE's sole source of gil is players like those. IGE is the biggest gil-selling site for a reason, and it's because they buy the most gil. At least 95% of the gil that is sold is sold from the cheating ones, and I severely doubt that IGE is only getting 5% of the gil-selling market.

yeah, listen to teh veteran

You right, he is double talking. IGE only needs to stop buying from one group for his statement to be true, while they are still buying from 1000 more shady farmers. The level of Gil stores they have could not be sustained by simple lone people selling excuses gil to them. It has to be brought in by a mass method.

While I higly agree that they are not getting only 5% of the gil-selling market, I disagree with one point in Vet's post (I am NOT siding w/the gilsellers).

"which requires account-sharing, which is against the ToS"

So are you saying if I let a friend play the account that I'M paying for, it's against the TOS? That point is BS. If I want a friend to play, and we play the same account, and he has my permission to play that account, then that is my choice.

4.2 Restrictions.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you may not:
(a) Modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software;
(b) rent, lease, loan, sell, sublicense, distribute, transmit or otherwise transfer the Software, your User or other account-related information (including, but not limited to, your User ID or password information) to any third party;
(c) make any copy of or otherwise reproduce the Software; or,
(d) use the Software or your PlayOnline user account to provide service bureau or time-sharing services, or for any other commercial purpose. The PlayOnline Service and the ability to access PlayOnline are for the personal use of Users only and may not be copied, resold, leased, transferred, exchanged or bartered.

Yup. I know someone who got his account perma-banned because it was logged out in Texas then logged in in California three hours later.

Oh. I'm merely talking about having 2 accounts at MY house, and letting a friend play one of them. I'm not talking about copying it for a friend. lol

Yeah, another thing I noticed near the end: he said "most people don't use the money to buy armor or weapons, it's mostly things that don't affect other players". Total BS. Maybe in other games, but in FFXI, the MAIN reason I think people buy gil is for the expensive equipment. :P

Everyone wants to burn people at the stake for gilselling crap. He could be lying to his teeth. But you all forget something...

Run a search on gilselling companies. There are a LOT. IGE could easily turn away the bastards for other groups. Look how many are on our server. Seriously, there are way more groups then you think, and more coming up. A group in Garlaige last night asked me for coffer help in broken English. Had no idea what was going on, and none had a linkshell. Hate to be assuming, but 6 people without linkshells on anon wearing crappy equip and trying to get AF with no clue? That's suspicious.

Either way, there are the gilsellers that employ real bastard tactics, like the DRG group and co. in Kuftal Tunnel. Then there are some groups that just hardcore do something. IGE could easily turn down the guys using crap tactics and still make a hell of a lot. Most likely it's those smaller companies undercutting IGE that are using the shady tactics...Why else do you think they would sell for so low?

I've had a really bad experience in Davoi with Enjoylife. I saw her, Sequoia, and two of their other LS pricks in Kuftal last night while Coffer hunting. They were all standing around waiting for Phatom to pop until I ran by them toward the next coffer spawn location. Enjoylife immediatel went /follow on me for a good 2-3 circuits of the map /telling me "you out here!~~ now!~" as usual when I see her/him.

But then a short time later Guivre ran by and promptly murdered everyone in the zone.

I was very, very, very disheartened to see Enjoylife sporting relic gear. ; ;

If what IGE says is true, we should be reporting all shady farmers to them. This way they can stop doing business with them. :twisted:

The problem with the "second market" (as the IGE guy wants to call it) is that regardless of the way it's implemented, it will *always* generate inflation which in turn hurts everyone's gaming experience.

The economy in any MMORPG is designed to go something like this:

1) Low level players have very little cash
2) Low level items are, therefore, cheap
3) As a player goes up in level, they get more cash
4) Higher level items are more expensive

So the "natural order" is having 2 markets, one cheap for low levels, one more expensive for high levels (or several "market ranges" but the idea is the same).

The problem with gil selling is that it the number 1 line up there ceases to be true. When low levels have access to "high level cash" then inflation begins. Low level items become expensive, and higher level items become ridiculously high.

Final Fantasy just happens to be particuarly sensitive to that kind of thing because of the "godly" low level items. And it's not SE's design at fault really, because they expected you to be a high level in some other job before being able of obtaining those special items.

In a way, they are "high level items that can be used for low level jobs", but with gil selling they become "real" low level items, and that completely disrupts the economy.

I guess my point is that there is no "good" kind of gil/money selling, since it will be eventually a very strong disruptive force to a game's economy. So the IGE guy claiming he's a gamer at heart and stuff is just a lot of bullshit. And if i had to bet, the "we only buy from good guys" stuff is bullshit too. I mean, after you decide to be evil, why limit yourself ?

It's funny how he totally ignored the negetives of the service they provide. How the TOS states it to be illegal and a bannable offense. (If SE would actually do it :roll: ) How the service then causes inflation which it turn draws more people to their services or the person who refuses to buy ends up quitting because of the rediculous amount of time spent farming/harvesting/fishing/crafting/NM Hunting. Or how legitimate players are impeaded in their enjoyment because of the monopoly on mobs and zones.

Ehh. I'll just keep on ignoring them.

Of course he's going ignore the negatives of his business, or put them through the spin doctor clinic. He's in the business of PR.

Frankly, it's cheating it's an outside service enhancing a player's game.

But every game will have cheaters . . . you just have to suck it up and keep on keepin' on

GameSpy: Speaking of these kinds of issues, how legal is IGE's business? Where do the publishers stand on this?

SS: Well, our postion, and we're very clear about it, is that we don't believe that we needt a license from publishers to do the business that we do. We are in direct contact with most of the big publishers. I have a made a very strong effort to introduce IGE as a company to many of the key publishers and developers in the space. We are very interested in working with them under normal business terms. IGE feels that markets are best served and customers are best served when market leaders cooperate, and there are many, many things that IGE agrees completely with, in regards to the publishers' position. We don't believe that cheaing in any form is appropriate, and we think it should be stopped.

As you know, there are those that exploit and hack, who acquire items through cheating. We think that's inappropriate and should be stopped. There are groups and individuals that farm items in a way that impacts the enjoyment of other players. We don't think that is appropriate, and we think it should be stopped.

I'd like to point out here that there is a great deal of misinformation about IGE's operations. We do maintain significant operations in Hong Kong, but they are simply customer service operations. We have about 100 employees that are on the phone, on e-mail, or instant chat 24 hours a day, and they are buying and selling virtual items. We don't have a single employee anywhere in the world that plays the games to acquire virtual items that we then turn around and resell. You see on many of the message boards comments about IGE sweatshops around the world. This is completely inaccurate, we've never done that, we'll never do that, and in fact, we've been working behind the scenes with publishers to identify "problem operations."

anyone considered that to be true? Because, to be honest, I think it's weird that SE haven't sued IGE for selling their products (All Gil are belong to SE ;P), which means they COULD sue them. And I remember when people tried t ocontact IGE, and they said that they won't give out information about gil sellers and buyers to anyone besides SE.

I don't support gil sellers/buyers, but I *DO* find it kind of weird that SE isn't taking any actions against it =/
