Inuyasha Confirmed to End Next Wednesday in Japan
posted on 2008-06-10 12:31 EDT
Fantasy tale to be Rumiko Takahashi's longest work after 11 years, 558 installments

The 28th issue (released on June 11) of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine has confirmed that the next issue (on sale on June 18) will feature the final chapter of Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha time-travelling fantasy manga. Takahashi has been working on Inuyasha over the course of 11 years and seven months, more than 54 volumes, and 558 magazine installments. Inuyasha will be Takahashi's longest regularly serialized work — topping Urusei Yatsura (over eight years), Maison Ikkoku (seven years), and Ranma 1/2 (over eight years). (One-Pound Gospel, the Mermaid series, and Rumic Theater have all been running for more years, but were all also irregularly serialized and shorter in page count.)

Viz Media has been releasing the manga in North America, and it has also released the 2000-2004 television anime adaptation.

Thank you to Starks, Herb Kirchhoff, and Lily for the news tip.

Amazing.

Takahashi is known for nothing if not supremely long, and beloved series (Ranma 1/2 being a prime example). A credit to her storytelling mastery. She isn't called the "Queen of manga" for nothing.

Jesus I thought that series ended years ago. Almost twelve years? Fuck...

Last I knew they *still* hadn't DEFEATED NARAKU.

jk I just recently started getting into this series, and it'll be sad to see it go.

In twenty years when all the JP series is fully translated to English so I can watch it.

I really don't like Inuyasha :| it's so repetitive and lame... even more so than DBZ... this is an example of an anime/manga going on WAY TOO LONG... (Naruto and Bleach are pushing that too -_-)... the only long manga that I haevn't had a problem with is Berserk.. god that manga is so good but he spends months before he'll release a chapter.. fine tuning it.. that's why it's only up to about 305 even though it started in 1989 :P where as things like Naruto and Bleach started like.. 1998? or something like that.. and passed it in manga chapters.

Uh, hasn't the anime been dubbed and finished for like, 2 or 3 years?
I don't know about dubbed, but it finished airing in Japan years ago. They basically just stopped the show with no real ending.

I'll finally get around to reading this now that it's finished.

Don't suppose anyone who's been reading the manga would happen to know where a person can start, if they want to resume the storyline from where the animated series ended?

i've been meaning to get a hold of the manga ever since the animated series ended, but never got around to it. Now that the manga is also ending, I think its about time I picked it up. Really enjoyed the humor and personalities of the characters in the story =)

Yeah the anime ended so shittly. And then they made a fourth movie and I was like SAWEEET it might rap shit up... but no not at all. It was about a completely different story that had nothing to do with the show and concluded nothing, so i went back to my linkin park cd...

This kinda makes me sad. :( I've been reading Inuyasha for years now.

I hope it ends well though.. Worth all the watching and reading I've done to this point. lol

ULTIMATE SPOILER!

Cool, maybe now she'll do more work on Ranma 1/2.

Edit: they also answered the only questions I had about the ending, does Inuyasha turn back into a human or not, and do him and Kagome live in the past or the present.

Just finished the last chapter and I was pretty happy. It pretty much ended how I wanted it too.^^

I am happy she choose to stay the in past with them, instead of the future. :P Even though her family is there. Overall, well done. :D Worth the wait.

Dude... there are spoiler tags for a reason. -_-

At least there is a real ending this time around.

How long can inuyasha live for? She just left her family to go live in the past when he could have just sat around for a few centuries and hooked up with her after it becomes kagome's time period. I'm no expert on how long he can live but as a wild guess he wouldn't have looked more than 5~10 years older.

well seshomaru is 900 years old so I'd assume quite awhile, still at least it ended; I don't think Inuyasha can become mortal since the shikon is gone now and forever.

a little sad that it's over since seshomaru can't be more badass

so this is the manga or they continued with anime? im cornfused
