invasion of the gillsellers?

but it is also interesting to know that, in some other countries, these practices are quite common and a person or a group of people play MMORPG to make money

there is an establishment of a Virtual E-Bay, an auction site dedicated for vitual stuff and it actually runs well

i have heard that those may actually be coming over to the US

Eni, where have you been? Yantis (http://www.playerauctions.com) (now IGE owned), and IGE (http://www.ige.com), have been in business for years, and they are all US based.

Much of the ability of people to profit from games is that there are items in short supply. Originally this was a valuable concept to be able to differentiate between players who have the ability and aptitude to accomplish something incredibly difficult in game. Their reward would be an item of high value.

Soon thereafter publishers realized that they need the "average" player as well, because the majority of the players is average, but if exceptional items would only be accessible to exceptional players, then the average player would lose interest, and stop paying. Thus methods were created to reward average players as well, by means of making some exceptional items tradable.

As soon as that happened, the demand for the actual item, or for currency to purchase such item went through the roof.

Online games will always be that way, because it is in the best interest of the company who runs the place to keep players from obtaining exceptional items too quickly, and thus prevent them from "winning the game".

A good example of this is City of Hero's. In CoH it is easy to obtain the best enhancements, all you need is some time, but you don't have to compete with anyone over spawns or camps or whatnot. The result is a fun filled time in game, but also the fact that you can have the game beat after just some 8 weeks of moderate game play. Meaning you only pay two months of subscriptions (of which one month is free trial), and they you technically do not need to play the game ever again, because you have already done it all.

Of course you can make another alt and play it through again as someone completely different, but it's nothing like in EQ where it took years to properly develop a character when EQ first came out, I have some 259 days played on my first EQ toon by the time Luclin came out, and he was far from perfect (full set of Kael quest armor though, for those to whom this means anything, I shed a tear the day I looted the BP, there simply aren't that kind of accomplishments in these games anymore, good old days).

oh ok ^^;;

i never played MMORPG until FF11 so im quite clueless

i logged out myself at castle oztroja.. im gonna get that kote errrr

If you think about it, Gil selling violates a shit load of things. First off, using a game SE has rights of, to make profit, is 100% against laws, and SE is liable to SUE for millions. Second off, by SE rules, the ones who voke-bot, are using 3rd party programs. Thus violating Terms of use.

Anyhow, I just lost my train of thought on all this, but the main point is this, SE, Battlenet, W.e, fails to see these sites, and i gaurntee if the CEO of any of these compainys new that other compaines were benifting profit of there products with buying rights, they will bash their skulls in with court summons and legal crap. And personaly i think that a organazation should band together to fight the gil sellers, and botters, and all crap witch does in a big way, or small hinder others gameplay.

So all in all, Gil selling is violating BIG copyright laws. And i hope to god that something can / and / or will be done about this.

Personally i'd like to bash in the skulls of people who actually buy gil from gil sellers. They are the ones who keep this practice ongoing. If no one bought gil online, obviously there wouldn't be any profit to be had, thus very little to no gil farmers would exist.

Nah, no one will do a thing. Lawyers got it all covered.
Essentially you do not sell anything that belongs to SE when you sell gil, in fact you acknowledge that SE owns the gil and you are just a 3rd party.
If you look at the auctions, there is always some fine print that says that it is the time invested in obtaining the items what you are asking cash for.

I don't really know how powerful SE is in terms of annual sales and profit, but if a giant like Sony (EQ) is unable to stop the "aftermarket", then I doubt SE will be able to do it, or to even try.

I ran into these bastards while mining in Gusgen last nite. One of these tools was mining on my mining point. And called him on it. The tool didn't say anything either. One thing for sure, if he does it again, I am mining on his. Yes, I know this doesn't solve the problem. I'll take some suggestions on what anyone has done in the past.

OMG yes. There are 2 people named elveengrl and asurathief that Log in Ghelsba Outpost damn near 24X7! I HATE this! I used to actually enjoy logging and was how I amassed my wealth at an early stage. Now it's ruined and I have retreated to the mines in the grotto, only to find that they show up there too every now and then!

/em sees this topic being moved to the flameboard.
