Is it possible to succeed anymore?

Hey all. Im a PLD 73 having fun in Dynamis. I have pretty much the setup and gear that I want but there is one thing I still lust for. Excalibur.

I know it isnt the best thing I could be using, but its a goal I have had my eye on for a while and the Knights of the Round weaponskill, while somewhat dissapointing, is still a pretty nice thing to have.

Not to mention Excaliburs hidden latent affects of Regen and the ever rare Invincibility.

My question is this:

Is it possible to get Excalibur (from stage 1-4) without having to buy gil or farm for a year non-stop?

I see in most forums that the average total cost rounds up to roughly 99 million gil, which in my opinion is absurd.

If I have to farm forever...so be it I suppose. I dont really have much else as far as quests and such left. But buying gil is NOT an option.

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, or shreads of hope?

Those prices are a year old, it's now around 500 mil for just the coins. Unless you're absurdly rich or you have the help of a linkshell getting a relic weapon is pretty much impossible.

That is so freaking absurd. Why do these morons jack up the prices of these items? As you say, its practically impossible to obtain them anymore. And when something in a GAME designed so that EVERYONE has a chance to get ANYTHING (Except RSE) becomes impossible to get because of a few morons trying to make lazy money, that when the GAME starts losing appeal to high level players.

These pieces are supposed to be hard to get. Truly hardcore. I'd love to get the BRD Horn, but I'm not willing to pay the price. /shrug

Then quit.

Maybe that's what they secretly wants us to do  Don't fall for it! It's a ploy!

Okay, you don't want to buy gil? That's reasonable. Get your crafting skills up as high as possible, and make the HQ Sha'Ir Manteel. It's the 73(?) Bard body, that goes for roughly 40+ mil each. However, one of the materials is an HNM drop (drop rate is not all too bad though). So with time, you could have 500 mil for the coins within a few monthes if you go all out in the game, and saying your stuff sells. With high crafting skills, you can get alot of gil from the higher crafts. And between crafting, you can use WHM and taxi people for gil. Every 3k of gil always counts.

There is another way though...

You could also become an ass, consumed with greed, and jack up the prices on everything you sell up until right before the point where people won't bother buying the item. Though your rep may be skewed, you will come much closer to getting Excalibur.

No. Not everyone is.

I've seen Bards on other servers have the horn. I was like, damn, you frikking buy gil don't you? And they denied it. No way in Hell is it possible to rack up 460 mil for this horn in under a month.

But still...

The horn is like, ZOMG!

The only method of approach i can think of is raising a craft. This goes for fishing and Chocobo aswell. Take a look at what you want to sell to make money and go for it. There is much sacrifice to leveling a craft and even more so the faster you raise it.

Without the ability to generate mass amounts of gil, it's nearly impossible to get the relic sword to Excaliber in an entire life age, seeing on how it's not likely a fairly large group of people will donate their hours on one person. I heard how one guy actually did have his LS support him and he did get the Excaliber sword.

If you're character can't make millions, you could only begin to try. If you have not any crafting skill (which i personally think should be called a job) that should be you're first priority into the making of you're Excaliber sword.

Pretty much, stay clear of Culinaries and Alchemy, for those really don't compare to the other crafts gil-wise in the upper levels.

Thank you! This seems to be the answer I needed. My crafting is good enough for HQ Sha'Ir but im not that far off. About a week of pure crafting and I should be fine. I have enough gil to afford materials and such, so this seems to be the way for me to go.

lol, no thanks. Id rather take the time to level my crafting a bit more and sell some HQ items for the gil I need.

Excalibur is a good how off weapon. What good is having it if everyone thinks "That asshold ripped us all off to get that damn sword." Id rather have people saying "Holy hell! Look at that thing!"

I apologize. I'm stressed out from football today.

Heh, ok then. As long as that isnt your normal personality -.-

Alchamy i hear has a few good loop holes, but you're right, it definatly is not the greatest and neither is cooking.

There are only 2 negative factors to his method though:

1. There is a large possibility of materials breaking, including the HNM drop.

2. People may not be willing to buy it for 40+ mil, so you may have to haggle with people, but I mean, anything above 25 mil is a big step closer off of one item.

One of the big loopholes are creating items that are in demand, like ethers for example. You make large quantities of them, and sell them all. Easy way to make some quick gil, but not always that much. But it costs alot of time for this way, so sometimes, it won't be worth it, especially in strides for 500 mil for just the base coins.

Well, I run a Mercenary Linkshell, so all I have to do is wave 5k at a few of my members and they will go farming for me.

Yeeeah. 25+ mil is defenitly good. I dont want to undercut but I guess if the average price is 40 mil, I should probably sell it for.... 30mil? 35? lol, pretty sad when we are deciding how many millions of gil less to sell something. -.-

Some mule was bazaaring Shei'hk Manteel for 50,000,001 gil. Another mule was selling it for 45,000,000. And another was selling it for 35,000,000...

So I suppose that 43,000,001 be reasonable, for that is the average between the 3. But that's based off of 3 bazaars I've seen. I would recommend that you either make offers, or fine a defined price for the item. Definitely find the defined price, but you can make offers if you find it fit to do so.

No seller wants to be undercut...

But no buyer wants to be overcharged.

At this current point and time, selling a 40 mil item with the uncertainty of selling for 30-35mil for ALMOST a guaruntee of selling, I wouldnt mind taking the hit. Sure I dont want to be undercut, but 5 million off a 40 mill item for almost a guaruntee of selling is a worthy sacrafice to me.

Well, optomistically (statistics), saying you make your gil soully on Shei'hk Manteels, and sell them at 35 mil each, and craft one everyday, it will take you around 15 days to obtain the gil to get the base coins. (500,000,000/35,000,000 = {Roughly} 14.3)
But putting in other factors, like time, and other means of getting gil, you should be able to make 500,000,000 gil in 2 and a half monthes if you remain consistent, and keep at it everyday for those 2 and a half monthes.

Negative side, if you were to sell it at 40,000,000 gil, it would only take 12 and a half days, so 13 days. And to factor in other things, would roughly take aruond 2 - 2 1/4 monthes. Not a huge huge loss, but would make time go by alot easier.
