For a while now, i have been very much considering Lvl'ing rng. I would like to hear if it's or can be very awsome ever since the update. I thank you guys for your opinions.

Well this is likely to start a dicussion on the rng nerf a while back, but oh well. Don't. Level something like mnk or war. Was funny in my rng cannon the other day exping on weapons in sky, the rngs were commenting on how they wish they were war/nins spamming rampage.

That's what I'm doing...

It's actually sad how SE killed Rangers. I don't think I've partied with one ever since the update. Heck, I rarely even see them. Which is, as previously said, sad. Mostly because now that they don't do like 1000 damage with Sidewinder, RNG's are now considered "useless".

Like how DRG got their job horribly nerfed a long time ago, but you still see lots of Dragoons, and they always try their best to compensate for the nerf made to weapon skills, and actually, I've only seen one "disappointing" Dragoon in my entire gameplay. (That would be Rikkuu)

The question really is, Do you enjoy the idea of Ranger, hanging back and shooting arrows and crap, I do. I like Rng, its fun nerf and all. If you find it fun, then lvl it, dont let a bunch of peeps who prat on about silly nerfs sway your mind, try it out, if you enjoy, then go for it and have fun with it.

there were a lot of odd things in that party... blm main heal? >.>;;
but ya, they still hit 2k sidewinder/slug shots every now and then, it's still a viable DD and a good job to play, it's just a lot less overpowered.

Exactly. I still think Rangers are kickass damage-dealers, especially with the right equipment. Ranger/Ninja are unbeatable under lots of circumstances. They're basically what SE intended Ninja to be: Black Mages with the use of money instead of MP. Well, NIN were more intended to be RDMs with crazy enfeebles and stuff or DD's or something... whatever...
Like Pelori says: Nerf or not, Rangers are kickass.

Nope. Rng used to be the top DD in the game, and it was balanced out by having to pay to do so. Now since the nerf, you are a mediocre DD that pays for mediocre damage.

Never pick a job to be awesome or leet.........you should pick a job that is fun for you. ppl who pick jobs for getting as much dmg as possible are shallow imo and are a type of powergamer. I have not hate agaisnt them....they can do their thing......I just done have any respect for them and actually feel kinda bad for them.

So should you pick RNG? Do you like to shoot things from a distance? If so....then i'd say yes, you should pick RNG. I think a person should decide what job they want to be before they know anyone's opinion about any job. Cause that just tarnishes it. Learn what each job does...job abilities and what not, then choose the job.

It's fun to use the compass to determine how far to stand from the monster according to size. o_o; It may sound complicated, but it makes all the other DD jobs "engage, melee" versus Ranger which is damage based on monster, weapon type, and distance. If you want something more challenging than "engage, melee", choose Ranger.

Or, you could always try Samurai/Ranger ^^

I found rng can still be a top top DD in xp situations, but it requires a somewhat different role in the party.

I had a party of this setup 69-71: thf/nin(me), nin, war/nin, rng/war, rdm/whm, rdm/whm.

Basiclly, the Rng didn't SC. The rng acted as the pure DoT guy, filling the spot where blm normally goes. So me and war did our light SC onto the ninja which covered all the hate. Then the rng let out 1000-1900 sidewinders after the SC or toward the end of fights.

If you try and use a rng in a normal SC though, it's a bit of a pain in the ass. From my experience they're best used as a non-SC DD unless they close SCs late in the fight.

The rng I saw hit hard though, 110+ per shot and good rng acc(was gaining tp fast). Maybe the whining rngs just aren't ideally geared. That or they're complaining about Gods and make it sound like it's the same situation as xp(can't compare level 90 stuff to 80 and below) After all it didn't take very much effort to be a great rng in the old days, the job did all the work so any idiot could be a good rng at that time. Just watch out for the very high inc-tough. Good RNG can still completely mow VT and mid-inc-tough, more so than other jobs. But what job doesn't see a great big blow to their DoT on 200+ mobs aside from blms(but at least they're limited to a mp pool).

And just a sidenote, /war helps cover a lot of lost ground in damage per hit since the nerf. But a lot of rng lack balls and think they're going to steal hate as a /nin a lot. Maybe from bad tanks, that's about it. And if a rng tells you they can steal hate from a good tank with a /nin sub on, then obviously they're still quite powerful in certain situations.

Rngs have been looking better recently from what I've seen. I think it's because all the lemming that came to the job originally left when it was no longer very grossly overpowered. What's left of the rng population is mostly pretty legiate players though, whom are true Rngs. Still a few big time whiners though.

So overall, it's still pretty damn good if you're willing to put the same kind of gil into it as you would into other melee jobs. And you gotta take chances (like subbing war) just as other DD do to be above the crowd.

Rng still good. I don't have any problems outdamaging anybody. We just beat Kirin in under an hour with 1blm who was only in 50% of the time. 3 monks, 1 drk, 1 sam, 2 war, and 5 rangers did all the damage. I was hitting 500-800 slugshots on kirin consistently(I do have aqua gorget, Osode, and all the str. I can muster up).
Was also in exp. party with good ranger the other day and he was opening light with a thf closing and we were kicking ass(I was on ninja). He was pulling hate off of me with HeavyShot.

Rng can SC just fine with gun, sweet spot is right outside melee range, if you get just barely close enough to swing you'll barely notice the damage cut, and can get melee TP too.

Is leveling rng worth it though? I dunno, I probably could have fun with it, if I hadn't been through the times when you could hit 95% of your ranged attacks with damage gear/food. I couldn't level it after that hitting only 80% of my shots with acc gear/food.

For the things I use ranger for I normally find myself playing gimp war/nin with acid bolts. I can do more DoT with axes than xbow any day, especially with haste. But still I have 100 less attack than a war/nin as well as no provoke/berserk/warcry and lower evasion/def/parrying.

I do enjoy the job. I also enjoy the thought of doing mass amount of damage. Like seeing some people saying how they are no longer good, but a rng post's a screen shot of them doing 2k to a wep in sky. I wanna do that too ~.~

The whining RNG's are the ones that refuse to use anything but OBow and cheap bolts.

Any RNG with a high damage Bow or Gun and top grade ammo can still outperform all DD'ers.

Eurytos + Kabura/Demon
Hellfire/+1 + Silver Bullets

There are other combo's but OBow simply doesn't cut it for a RNG that wants to do top notch damage since you can't spam WS's anymore, you want high damage per hit and per WS.

Why does everyone always talk damage in these terms? Damage Over Time is what ranger lost, not damage per hit or per ws. I can still do the exact same damage to any mob short of high level NM, but with substantially lower TP gain and accuracy.

I don't mind paying, I mind missing, that's what bugs the crap out of me. Before the nerf I broke 2k slugs against deco weapons with o-bow and dst bolts, and could easily out DoT any rng using hellfire+1 with my holy bolts, even though they were receiving the benefit of my acid bolts. Now only thing worth taking to exp is gun so I can add in melee TP.

A lot of the fun has gone out of the job for me. Nothing like going to fight something such as sleepga II NM, using full Racc gear and eating sushi, opening the fight missing a heavy shot (for god's sake heavy shot not slug) and then missing barrage right after, both from the sweet spot.

Only time i do that in exp pt is when the melee use Sushi on VT mobs. Bunch of geniuses I tell ya...

i've done quite a few 1k+ sidewinders post patch. I've broke 2k on weapons in sky a few times post patch as well. And (until i started coming as pld anyway) Chronicles and I still had the highest DoT on Kirin (in our ls anywayz). RNG is still a very viable job. Just have to grow a pair and stop subbing NIN  I'm just going off of my war sub numbers...because it's all i have to go off of really...heh.

XP Party (w/o brd) - per shot average = 180 - average sidewinder = 1300

XP Party (w/ bard) - per shot average = 260 - average sidewinder = 1700

Kirin - per shot average - 100 - Average sidewinder = 700

and no i don't have a PPA or breeze gorget
