Is the best gear a standard now?

So... as a new white mage springing forth! I hit another level last night and I decided to farm for that Pilgrim's Wand. The lottery spawn is ridiculous for such a low level NM. I've was out there for 4 hours straight and not ONE pop. Go figure!

I'll try again tomorrow.
Also!
As a white mage, I'm needing the most MP boosting gear out there with (+mp per tick as a sub skill needed) I haven't looked into prices/gear stats in the passed day, so I was wondering if there where any recommendations for quests or shops/cheap items I could look into.

I'm almost certain you just missed it. Its only got a 1hr respawn time. Its highly recomended to camp with widescan because of its large spawn area and ph spawn range. Try to get a friend to help camp it that has rng or bst unlocked.

My only input gear wise though is don't wear stupid +resistance gear in dunes. Pisses me off to see people wearing +2 earth resitance shit like its gonna help there.

LOL Ambers and Tourmalines :D I always got a kick out of seeing RMTs and ubernubs wearing that. I'll second Passions' sentiments; that's the only advice gear-wise I'll offer.

My shell earrings were the first things i ever crafted... they're there for the nostalgia whenever i remember to bring em out.

Hey, I didn't know any better back then, I swear =P Seriously I did wear tourmaline and amber when I was a nublet >.>

Peace,
Shmed

Let me guess... "+2 earth must raise my stone damage!!" :D amirite?

Why else would I have worn those and a Scarlett Ribbon? Seriously I didn't know better and being on a server of complete newbs(xbox beta) I had no one to tell me different.

Peace,
Shmed

*edit* after getting to this server I did get 2 Morion's

In my opinion if the game makes generic gear for your specific job and lvl then you are obligated to use it if you want to. I am not saying go out and purposly gimp yourselves to make a point but use what you believe will be benificial to you or what you think will work. Example: If you are lvling 52 - 60 and you want to use the full JSE gear the go ahead it was made specificaly for the use at that lvl.

ME: Thx for the invite
Leader: np thx for joining
Member: dude you are lvl 60 still using JSE
ME: So what it was made for this lvl and my job

My point is just do let others jurisdict what you wear if it is made for your job and lvl then it is ok to use it. How you use it is up to you

The only reason I wear resistant gear in dunes is because its TONS cheaper to spend the 1k conquest points on resist gear than to shell out the couple of thousand gil. + I can sell my gear afterwards for a bit of profit of course.

There are only 3 elements used in dunes (besides blm gobs) fire, wind, and water. None of which your gonna make a high enough build without whm support of barspells to absorb the damage. Your better off saving your 1k conquest points for other shit you can sel for better gil from later ranks, or geting rr scrolls or warp scrolls ect recharging emp band. And wearing nothing in the slot. Also, your a mage? +mp, int, or mnd (depending on job) is going to beinifit you way more than a + res because at that lvl aint nothing +res on a slot that you can't better equip yourself in for hell a mear few k in gil. I don't use + rings cause frankly I think its a waist I hate dunes and I hate changing gear every 30 damn minutes and droping 19k for that +1 doesn't fease me at all, ill eat some food most people don't do that in dunes but oh! They are all+1 whopty do dah.

Here's some goals for fairly easily obtained (cheap/free), but still useful dunes WHM gear:

Justice Badge (questable)
Friar's Rope (questable)
Pilgrim's Wand for resting (rare/ex, free; NM guaranteed drop, already discussed in this topic)
Level 9 -> 18 HQ MND/INT wands for casting (NQ if you must for the level 9 one, but even HQ is pretty damn cheap; get HQ for the level 18 one, you'll be using it till I think 32, and the HQ is still pretty damn cheap)
Saintly Ring x2
Onyx Earring x2
Level 10 -> 20 NQ MP hairpins
Zealot's Mitts

For the rest of the slots, anything with reasonably up to date defense that doesn't cost too much. Probably some variety of doublet.

well about the earrings with the +elements

it does help with resisting bomb toss and blms in dunes shooting stonega and aeroga out of their asses.

it's weird sometimes you can resist most of the damage since the damage is magic based

whm bar spells make you resist those if at all, not the little petty amount of +res you get from gear.

odds are, your skill is average, even if you think you're exceptional. you're unique, just like everyone else. a person with the same skills and better gear will do better pretty consistantly.

"average" isn't the word I'd be using for most white mages around my level! XD

I'm "average" in the sense that I know how to manage hate with certain tier cures, as well as with status removers/enhancers. I know when to rest efficiently with minimum downtime. I know how to use my CHAT FILTERS! But yeah, if thats average, then count me in.

That is average, if you didn't know how to do that, it would be called stupid. It's all common sense that everyone should have. Now you build on average by having more HMP and more MP than the next guy.

Ding.

Skill makes you average, Gear makes you excellent. And gear only works after a certain level of skill.

Also, if anyone ever says that an elvaan can get away with less STR gear than a tarutaru, they're one of those people without skill OR gear.

Skill is the sexual attraction, but gear is the personality. One can work without the other, but both being good just makes the person even better.

Basically, you can be an awesome player with average gear and a lot of skill. But you'll be even better stacked with good gear to compliment your skill. It is, however, hard to be more then average without good gear. To go past average, you most of the time need gear to give you that extra push to the next level.

As an example, a MNK without black belt and other end-game items won't have noticable skill, since he won't do much more damage then other monks, even if he is the most skillfull monk in the game. He won't become the best monk ever without these end-game items to boost his performance, since even an average monk with these items will outdamage him. Unless the MNK is a complete and utter retard and save 300% TP before WS'ing and rarely even engage.

I don't consider that the point of the game. I know its important to be competent to a great deal, but having the best of the best is only for those who find pleasure in personal best. I like doing the best with what I have which is normally acquired with decent effort to forward the plot of the story.. I mean, progressing in the storyline is the real objective right?
