Is this site slow for a reason?

Thanks.

The problem remains though. QCDN is hosted on a shared server, and there is no option to disable the backup as it seems to be an all-server backup kind of thing.

There is still the possibility to move to a different shared server on he.net, one that doesn't see such a huge performance hit during backups. I have several other domains hosted with he.net and none of the other sites is experiencing problems like here at QCDN.

The most likely solution will be to move QCDN off of he.net onto a host that offers virtual private servers. The benefit is that QCDN will run on dedicated hardware. The downside is associated cost, and actually having to move the board. The old timers will remember what happened the last time I tried that.

I will call he.net in the morning (if I have admin by then) when the lag happens again to discuss what options they see and go from there. If the situation can not be fixed by remaining on he.net then QCDN will likely move to a new host within the next couple of weeks.

I would just like to add that my city's newspaper uses the same host as QCDN - it looks and acts exactly the same. And you all know how early people deliver newspapers...Well, imagine the rush to meet a deadline on the internet early in the morning. And then ALL of the people who view those sites as early in the morning as possible(assuming my city is not the only one using this host for their newspaper sites).

Just thought I would mention it, although it may or may not contribute to the problems listed above.

(Also, you think people on QCDN flameboard can be mean...ppshh...you should see the way they treat eachother in the forum on my newspaper's site!)
