Is this the End of FFXI?

I'm not wasting another 5 years of my life on a video game. Once ffxi dies then so does my online gamer career.

The thought of having to start all over again as a level 1 noob makes me ill....

I totally agree, I have very little intrest in the new game.

Sounds like I might have a new game to play lol. I love the new part of it. Ffxi was the funnist for me when I first started.

I have to agree with this. I''ve put way too much time into 11 to say "Ok lets do it again!" Nah I think once 14 comes out i am in official retirement mode. Don't think i'm ready to do another 5 -6 years of online gaming.

I had little interest in FFXI when I had heard about it. I was all like YUCK... ONLINE FINAL FANTASY?! WTF. SE YER STUPID... Now look at me I'm hooked. Will I continue to play FFXI after FFXIV... if there is a main story to be finished, yes. I will want to complete all of the main story lines.. and once that is done.. I'll prolly stop in for visits, because I'll be on FFXIV, depending on if it is any good. It is too soon to tell right now.

Like Veld, when FFXI came out in the US initially, I wasn't interested. I wasn't particularly enamored of the MMORPG concept at that point, but when a friend of mine pressured me to start, I said what the hell and signed up.

There's a not-really-all-that-funny story about that, incidentally, but I'll leave that for my blog someday.

When I first started, I was hooked. Badly. But once we'd caught up to the friends who were already playing, I no longer felt particularly pressured, and things smoothed out rather nicely.

In short, I'm apparently not one of the MMO addicts. I happen to like the genre, but I don't feel that need to keep playing, or advance at all costs. I may occasionally stay up late, but only when I have nothing important to do the next morning. I may occasionally get up early, but only if I woke up on my own (with a handful of exceptions generated by well-intentioned friends with my phone number who really wanted me to get Hauteclaire. Which I have. Bwahahahaha!), and only if again, I had nothing else to do that morning.

I've no particular distaste for starting over again. Particularly in a new game, when everyone is on the same playing field. Another part of what killed WoW for me was walking into a fully-developed economy in a game where money is basically given away at higher levels, so anything really good for lower-level characters gets snapped up by people running a well-funded alt. But still, I tried it again at a friend's urging when FFXI was getting a bit stale. I got several characters halfway up the leveling process, geared them as well as I was able, tried as many aspects of the game as I could, and dropped it in a heartbeat. In WAR, I hit the level cap, pushed my Renown (which served a variety of functions) past my level, capped one craft, nearly capped two more, got the best sword for my class in the game, had a wide variety of excellent gear, and walked away with almost zero regrets after a handful of months.

Ironically, the only game it's ever caused me any stress at all to leave is FFXI. And while the folks on Sylph are awesome people, and I've fulfilled a lot of my wishlist with this shell... I dunno, it's not the same as Quetz, where I knew so many people, from one shell or another, and so many that I'd leveled up with and so on.

I suspect server transfers have rather corrupted that situation, but still, some fond memories. I still have the urge to return to Quetz just to help out friends.

But if I can get enough of my friends, particularly rl friends, to jump over to FFXIV when it launches, I'll be able to finally cancel my content IDs with a sense of peace, I expect.

Though I won't do it for at least 4-6 months after FFXIV launch, knowing me.

FFXIV really wants to make me play XI again.

eh I can wait.

boring... we have to dominate the new game!

Let's be sure to get on the same server ;)

I hope they have more character customization this time around ;x in any case I'll be taru ^^

Like someone said earlier, time to sell your FFXI account now before they stop accepting them!

Ill definately jump ship, The beginnings of an MMO are always the best. Maybe I can get in early enough to benefit from a rusty cap situation! Missed that by weeks on XI ; ;.

Ill have no regrets dropping the game. Ive played my dues worth and time is starting to fade from me as far as playtime goes, so im getting more at peace with quitting.

Sadly I could probably quit now and not fret, but I love hanging out with friends.

QFT.

The most fun I ever had in this game was back in the days when there were more noobs than veterans. I remember I picked up the game about a week after NA release with 3 rl friends. Screwing around, and running from Bastok to San D'Oria as lvl ~11, no sub, no maps, no powders/oils was so exciting.

I lost interest in XI, but I plan on picking up XIV when it comes out. How long I play depends on what I'm doing life-wise next year, and how similar the new game is to XI. I know all MMOs have common traits, but I don't want to play FFXI-2.

Yeah, my best memories of this game were from the time I first started playing, really, though most of them are distinctly bittersweet in context.

I still remember my first encounter with an NM. Stray Mary, on my way to Valkurm Dunes at like level 15 WAR, no sub.

Thus began the first of my vengeance quests in FFXI, to kill the NM that had offed me when I was unprepared.

I hate when people say "waste another whatever on online gaming or final fantasy". It's not a waste, it's entertainment, and if you aren't doing it here you're going to go "waste" it somewhere else.

I feel that the reason why people don't want to play FFXI anymore is because they want that fresh new taste of final fantasy online. We're going to be able explore a whole new fantasy land again from the very beginning and that's the most exciting part.

When I see myself playing FFXIV, I see myself having the most fun I had playing FFXI - in the very beginning discovering the content. Now FFXI is like the back of your hand... you know everything and what's around the corner. With FFXIV we can regain that feeling.

People may also see FFXI as no longer being a priority and with a successor coming it can feel dated and last generation gaming.

I think this is my exact sentiment. I stoped playing FFXI because it felt like i had done it all. And atm thats the same reason im struggling to get motivation to play WoW.

Right now i find myself extremely enthused about FFXIV but at the same time am looking forward tothe Star War: KotoR MMO. and i cant figure out which i want to dive into more.

Star Wars pros: Lightsabers, multiple diffrent planets, blasters.

FFXIV: HD-Mithras (may be reason enough for me), Superb story That ive grown to exspect from the FF Franchise.

im so torn ;_;

Star Wars also has Twi'leks :D

i am inclined to agree with this and other statements of the like. Time spent doing something you enjoy is never wasted. Would you say a person that like to spend their time reading books is wasting their time? i mean all they are doing is sitting in a chair flipping pages, /sarcasm. How bout this, go tell a sports fanatic that he/she is wasting time watching a game. While you're doing that I'll call the ambulance to come pick you up......or whats left of you anyway. lol

For most of us: Gaming is our hobby. It's what we do to entertain ourselves. It's a waste only when it keeps you from doing more important things.

Keep it on the topic of "will XIV end XI".

Nobody in this thread has accused other people of wasting *their* time.

From what I've read, it's all been first-person cases.
