Is this the End of FFXI?

i am inclined to agree with this and other statements of the like. Time spent doing something you enjoy is never wasted. Would you say a person that like to spend their time reading books is wasting their time? i mean all they are doing is sitting in a chair flipping pages, /sarcasm. How bout this, go tell a sports fanatic that he/she is wasting time watching a game. While you're doing that I'll call the ambulance to come pick you up......or whats left of you anyway. lol

For most of us: Gaming is our hobby. It's what we do to entertain ourselves. It's a waste only when it keeps you from doing more important things.

coudn't of said it better myself Zalt. For Realz if you dont enjoy it anymore with the i aint "wasting X number of years of my life" WTF are you still doing here its time to GTFO and enjoy life or w/e else

Ill probably play both games (FFXI a bit less tho) since I have yet to do everything there is to do in FFXI. Me and some RL friends have already decided that if possible, for us to all start on the same server so we can get things done the way we want to =P

I could see myself trying out FFXIV if they truly iron out some of the significant things that I didn't enjoy about FFXI. I don't think 11 will really die for some time due to how much time some folks have put into it/friends/etc though.

Oh, and hi everyone. /wave

Assuming it's "every 2 other games then an online" game pattern, then the "next online FF" is FFXVII which will be set in the FF7 universe [which will utterly destroy FFXIV, and also changing the set to a more modern setting] where you can play as: SOLDIER (SDR), TURK (TRK), JENOVA [JNA] blah and whatnot.

Basically it is all a plan to make money because the numeral scheme will float nicely to 17, which ends with VII, which means cashing it in on all FF7 fans. Side activities include SOLDIER BREEDING [slaughter shit for their cells and then capture civilians as test subjects and slide them into test tubes in your creepy Mog Basement) for PvP purposes, and perhaps racing purposes.

spare me i'm out of ideas and am bored at work ... :hiding:

I LOL'ed hard at this, you MUST be bored XD

I miss FFXI... I quit the game back around the end of October of last year I believe. It's been about 7 months...

I really wanted to go back a few times, but my lack of time to play and lack of money to pay the monthly fee is what is stopping me from going back. But if I was to ever go back one day, just like others here, my best times in the game were during the first time I've played through my newbie days and with my LS that I owned, before all the drama happened.

Mind you, being lvl 75 the first time and that to me is when FFXI really began and opened up a lot of opportunities. I think if I was to go back into FFXI, rather than trying to gain more improvements for my character, I think I would take out the LS that I used to own from my storage, and restart that shell and recruit new members and just hang out with some new or old friends and help out other players with any of my 3 lvl 75 jobs.

As for FFXIV when it is finally released... what would be very cool is if they can somehow let you transfer your old FFXI character into that game so that everything you achieved in however amount of time you played, won't all be for waste if you prefer to leave FFXI and play FFXIV full time.

Now since the game will still be new once it's released, your transfered character (if they allowed us to do that) Won't be able to use all their feature until later on in the game once new places are explored and maybe new quests have to be completed to unlock transferred character's feature, and these quests and what not can be placed into FFXIV at different interval times through various updates so that not everyone is very powerful once again right away.

I doubt it'll happen since I'm sure SE doesn't want to draw people away from FFXI, but one can dream...

Obviously you didn't read what most people said about its "a waste time". We are referring to starting a new game fresh, not playing FFXI. We also said that we will still play FFXI after the new game. So yes we enjoy it.

Unfortunately, for those who want it, SE has already made statements to the effect that this will not be the case. They state that character race resemblances are purely for continuity and comfort for those transferring from FFXI, but that is the extent of the similarities.

We will be making new characters. They will likely have variations of character models to make you look near, if not entirely, identical to your FFXI character if you want to recreate them, but it will not be a transfer. Personally, I hope that they significantly diversify character customization. It was/is one of FFXI's weaker points in my opinion.

Could this change before release? I suppose anything is possible. I just wouldn't go getting your hopes up.

Alright, makes sense. I've only watched the trailer of FFXIV so I didn't really read much into it just yet. I might try it out when it is released, but I don't know about putting as much into it as I did with FFXI before.

blah I was hoping they go to the actual tactics games. I might leave if they have new char but if it same one it be like playing same game but starting over again, it never as fun.
