Ive been wondering how some items actually work. Here are a few to name:

and

Warrior%27s_Cuisses.jpg

Thare are strictly +percent items and +number items.

What Im assuming:
Does double attack +1 add the entire double attack trait? As in, DA is already 10%, does a +1 make it 20%?

Nobody really knows, all we have is parsed end results. Mystery in the code that we will likely never know.

Do they work out the same with ending parse results?

I'm guessing Double Attack +1% gives a flat 1% double attack rate. Basically gives that trait, while "Double Attack +1" gives 1% to the already existing trait.

Basically, NIN don't have Double Attack at lvl 38, so "Double Attack +1" would mean nothing, since you don't have Double Attack, while "Double Attack +1%" grants a 1% double attack trait.

That's my guess, anyway.

Of course, there's also the "Enhances the effect of" items that we know DO grant the ability at a variable level.

going to take a wild guess on this, partially on the aspect there is no store tp+1%

DA+1 would be +1% stacks onto the current amount of the trait. "enhance (trait)" equip is ussally 5%... suppa, brutal earring, duelist tabard ect.

25 war +10%
af2 pants +1%
brutal +5%

total 16% DA proc rate

1% gear would be something taking your current trait amount then multiply

of course it could all be +1% da cut and dry, just developers lazy with descriptions

No one really can tell because it is so hard to test out, but we do know that this isn't true because of the TH items. TH4 isn't really a TH4. Its just TH2 + x% + x%. People just say TH4 because it refers to said thief having the xarc armlets and the knife, but when someone killed some NM a couple hundred times with mixed TH effect equiped the TH4 results didn't show the massive boost that would be shown if someone actually did have a 4th level trait of TH.

No, you'd still get double attack if the item says "double attack +1." Store TP gear works on any job even without the store TP trait, and someone told me that the kick attacks +6 on bahamut's hose will work even if you're not a monk main.

My guess is that they both just mean that your Double Attack rate goes from X% to (X+1)%. And that S-E, in their infinite clarity and wisdom and translation prowess (and perfect consistency and accuracy in equipment descriptions, as any SMN looking at "enmity" stats on their AF/AF+1 can assure you), simply hasn't used a consistent descriptive scheme for referring to the same thing. "This is a street!" "This is a road!"

And if X was 0, well, now you can Double Attack period - granted, only 1% of the time. About the only time when you can have a trait (which you don't otherwise have) enhanced in some way by equipment, without *getting* it in the process, is Dual Wield.

Yeah, but that'd be hilarious to be using a great sword or something and then just kick the mob out of the blue.

after reading what you first said, thats what I was hoping for :( lol

Basically the reason why I started this entire thread was because Im curious as to weather or not Scarecrow Scythe is even worth shit.

If like people say, the Double Attack +1 is just... +1%, then this is junk, but if its the trait +1, then its fairly useful! I dont believe SE made any Translation errors, I do believe that "Enhances effect" "+1" and "+1%" are each different in some way. Example:

+% just simply adds onto the %... Which means shit. 1% of 10 = .1... So that = 10.1%... You actually get the most out of this when you have no native ability because it will add 1/100 (doesnt really make sense, but seems viable)

+# adds to the normal trait, raising the 10% to 11%

And enhances effect probably raises the +# randomly for each attack, which is why there is no set number. i.e. +1-5 to total %

I know Im repeating what someone else said here, but just thinking it through

No, suppanomimi doesn't grant you dual-wield ability, it only improves it if you have it.

On the other hand, Loquacious earring is opposite : it gives you a weak fast cast job trait (-3% casting time), and you don't need to sub rdm or be rdm. Same for brutal earring.

I disagree. Treasure hunter +1 increases droprates on items noticably. Take your Thief and go farm, say, wild onions on Goblin Thugs in Horutoto ruins. I had a friend with TH4 make extended tests. The results were something like :

TH0 20% TH1 30% TH2 35% TH3 40% TH4 45%

The % refers to the ratio (# Goblins that dropped)/( # Goblins killed).

In other words, for the same amount of gob killed, a THF with TH4 get 28% more wild onions than a THF with TH2, and +125% more than someone w/o treasure Hunter.

Of course the effect depends on what monster you kill, and what the droprate is.

Also i doubt you can do test on some random NMs, killing a NM 100 times looks just impossible xd.

Dual Wield is the only exception to Enhances, +n, and +%. The equipment slot is restricted without the presence of the trait. Probably because of code needing base delay of both weapons(granted by the trait) for the additions to take effect. If there were a Martial Arts effect item(excluding latent lv.30 cape) around, it should work without the need of MNK or PUP subbed, because Hand to Hand has a hard coded base delay of 480. There is no base delay for Dual Wield.

+1 = +1%

They had an issue like this with something that they recently put in with MAB, and actually corrected the description for it (I think, maybe not though) They gave a MAB+% in the description instead of the standard MAB+#.

I'm just going to take your word for it. I was just recalling what has been discussed in the past and since my memory about a job that i didn't level past 37 is sketchy at best, i'll stand corrected.

Its been rumored that the Warrior's Cuisses +1 DA is a reproc of DA if it doesn't kick in.
IE, you have a 10% chance of DA, and you don't DA. Warrior's Cuisses lets you reroll, giving you another 10% chance. (Sounds like a good game for the Price is Right).
so:

IF "DA" Continue
ELSE DA%

Where the IF's chances of occuring is exactly equal to the Else clause, ie your Double Attack percentage from job traits / other gear enhancements.

I dont believe SE made any Translation errors

While it's not addressing this particular case, SE is very much capable of goofing their item descriptions. Do a bit of research into the "enmity" stats on SMN AF/AF+1. (Legs and feet in particular, iirc.)

Wonder if they've even fixed it yet - aside from the obvious case of the AF+1 that earlier listed "Enmity-" twice, which was so obvious that even SE got the idea and fixed the appropriate one to say "Avatar: Enmity-". But I think there may still be some goofs in the descs for some of the others, where it says "Enmity-" but means "Avatar: Enmity-".
