It's been a very long time folks

I thought there was a legitimate way to do it :P which would have really shocked me if SE went that route considering how old FFXI was. But whatever, I doubt I'd take part in that transaction (I never have yet), but as long as it doesn't affect me, I don't care

The only time it might affect you is if they decide to come to where you are EXPing or farming for whatever reason (i.e. Sea Monks in Vunkerl for Moonbeam Clam to pop NM), however they seem to do it in quite obscure spots which no one will probably go on a normal basis.

Otherwise, yeh, it doesn't bother anyone, aside from scheduled Jueno advertisements. You don't even need to hand any details over. Just pay, get to spot, get invite, afk. The only real problem is if they don't deliver on the full service paid for, because there's no mechanism to handle that. Personally if I know I'm paying X for X hours of something, I will be rather anal about it and make sure I get the complete X hour if it could be monitored.

Yes, I will go back to the counter at KFC to complain I only got 5 wings instead of 6 if I ordered a Hot Wing Meal. haha.

EDIT: haven't used this service. have thought about it. Levelling is seriously boring despite how easy it is. Plus if inevitably leadership is handed to me I tend be quite nazi about people going afk in my party at least.

I dunno why, but I never minded leveling in FFXI :P back when it was especially grindy with people, it wasn't so bad for some reason. Sure at times tiresome/boring, but overall I never minded it and I have no idea why. Cause other MMOs I have gotten especially bored at leveling.

I think the only thing I hated was if there was down time between pulls (which is why end game leveling was fun when RDM, BRD, and 4 WAR/NIN essentially was a pro exp grind group, non-stop stuff) and then the travel to get to the grindy spots. Some were REALLY long runs.

Overall though, never minded it too much. Waiting around in Jeuno could suck, but at the same time I would do other stuff while waiting. Homework when in school or the sorts :P

The traditional afk-exp method is to grab a Warrior, shove him in some -DT gear (and preferably a RDM to give him Phalanx), gather up a metric fuckton of mobs, and have him use the Great Axe WS "Fell Cleave" on them, then Retaliate back to full TP almost instantly and repeat.

SE apparently started cracking down on the RMT cleave parties, though I suspect that quite a few cases of people being "banned" for it are simply people using an excuse to hide the fact that they hacked their asses off in Neo-Nyzul.

As for the rest... I've cleaved for people, lol. Though not especially efficiently; really need WAR to do that. I've contemplated leveling WAR for that very purpose though lol, since I have a decent set for it.

What Foo did, however, was simply fall asleep in a regular burn alliance at the worms in Abyssea La Theine lol. I was there at the time (I was his party lead, in fact), and I knew he was sleeping when I logged off lol, but it's Foo, I make allowances. XD

Experience in Abyssea works a bit differently than normal. Mobs start out at a specific amount relative to your level, but every kill of the same mob raises that exp. You can actually start killing mobs and get no exp at all for quite a while, but it will climb fairly quickly. Certain chests have lights that allow that exp to go higher. In the aforementioned party where Foo passed out, for example, I was getting around 600 exp per kill, and had gone from 77 to 95 in that party.

you can easily get from 30 too 99 in a night with a good party going...we had a few were we almost hit like 600k an hr if i remember right. embrava at its finest.

Jesus O.o 30 to 99 in a night?

A long night, yes, but it's theoretically possible.

I usually crap out at around 30-75, to be honest.

Yep, 3-4 casual nights though is typical.

The downfall of spoon feeding exp has a few expected downfalls though (as experienced players would expect):

Complete lack of skill-ups and ability to gear accordingly.
Younger/newer players that have no idea how to operate their job in a role outside of hack-and-slash in Abyssea.
EXTREME cost of spells in one shot if you're leveling a mage job.
Limited Exposure to knowledge of the other zones, mobs, or items usually forced upon you throughout the leveling process.
And in most cases, a DE-huminzation of the game completely. There is no down-time, there are no friendly conversations, there is no travel or the exploration of the world, and there is limited to no accumulation of wealth through those levels (although there are SOME limited chest items worth a few K that you may see drop every once in a while.

I personally only used worm parties to take 4 jobs from 75-99, and "leech/keyed" a few sub jobs from 37-49 as to not be gimped, through the Mines and LaThene that I had/have no intention of taking beyond subs. But there IS value there in getting merit point STUPID easy to really polish off jobs.

It's not uncommon to see nuub wars, mnks, drks, ect all skilling up on high HP non-attacking mobs just trying to skill from like 85-400+ for days on end. Not really a valued trade-off in my mind, but people HAVE to go where the exp is if you want it...

Well, it all comes around because I was meriting yesterday afternoon with ninja and had about 5-6 under level 60 leechers standing around in my alliance. A Drk, blm, and myself were the only ones killing dolls. I did get 30 merits very quickly still. Now, I need to get someone to let me leech my thf and bst to 99 soon.

ive seen 30-99 in about 7 hrs..just need a good chunk of people killin and a constant embrava going. but yeah sittin for 7 hrs sucks ass.

That seems beyond ridiculous for an old FFXI player >.> I dunno how I feel about that fast of a growth lol. Oh well.

I used to love 6man exp parties. It is one of the things I miss, but its not far off 3-4 man Dynamis runs which have been really fun with Dino, Raes and the gang.

I have a question, did they ever improve the subscription method? I mean, back in the day it was something like 14.99/mo and only had the pay on the first of the month thing (which means if you didn't join on the 1st of a month you kinda got screwed). Did they improve it so whenever you start you get 30 days from when you joined and possibly add options (as most Subscription had where you can get a cheaper monthly amount if you buy for a longer time, aka 3 months would be 13.99/mo and then 6 months would be 12.99/mo)?

You get a free month if buy the expansions right now. Other than that it appears to be the same.

God damn it :| old payment model sucked.

God damn it :| old payment model sucked.

It's not the same as it used to be. When you reactivate now your monthly fee for the month in which you reactivate is prorated. After that they put you on the same 30-day cycle as everyone else. Also, there are no discounts to the sub. fee anymore nor is there an option to sub longer than 30-days (anymore). The price is the same as ever; if you have 1 character activated, it's $12.95 per month, each added character is $1 more.

Anyway, about the leveling... I don't particularly care for the way things are now, as even if you're "doing it properly" you out level your skills, but it works out to be far better than the days of old. Not to mention the change of pace was a breath of fresh air for me, so in that regard I like it. I do prefer that it's quick as it is too, there is so much to do now at the end, instead of camping a 24-hour spawn, that leveling up quickly and getting people there quickly is probably for the best.

Ah that's not so bad. And I still liked the days of old :P leveling in parties in the Dunes or the jungle or various other places for hours on on end with people. Hah.

Oh, there's nothing stopping you from getting a traditional party together! I just spent last week going from 34-49 on Mnk in a 5 man party with some JPs and a buddy in the jungle fighting mandies! ^-^ Had the whole place to ourselves, and the exp wasn't a grind either, just two nights of leveling, but it was old-school Mnktank! :-) The stuff's not broken, so much as the game allows people to be lazy without major ramifications in a totally remote area of the game lol. Speaking of which, I'm logging in to skill up H2H now since I went 49-95 in Aby in two days lmao.

I dunno, I don't really like the idea of letting things be lazy in the group setting. But I guess I'd have to try it again before I really judge.

Yeah, again, it just gives people the option to be lazy if they choose. But THANKFULLY, they made sure it was totally removed from the rest of the world. Also, they increased the level of mobs in most of the normal higher zones so that end-gammers DID still have places to exp at, so it's certainly not a easy-way-or-the-highway situation, just more options! It was nice and refreshing to have people working out a SC+MB and a puller, and everything else! Reminded me I'm not the only one that still knows how to play in that environment! :-P

Give it a shot! Worst that happens is ya find that it's not for you any more or that "they broke the game", which some people felt. I just keep putting a positive spin on it cause there is SOOO much more stuff to do and I'm feeding on it! And again, being lazy and unskilled is a choice, not a requirement lol. Just have to find like-minded peeps but also enjoy soloing some stuff in it's own right outside exp (which isn't such a bad thing!) There is TONS of stuff that is not impossible without a 18 + 12 swap alliance fighting LK's any more lol. It is MUCH more balanced in a lot of ways! :-)

Give it a shot! ^-^
