It's Just a Game

I like this post...because I can relate it to nuclear war.

That's pretty funny (yes I know it's a joke).
And an example of how someone could rationalize literally anything.

In other news deductive syllogisms prove themselves unsound!

But yes you can rationalize alot of shit. And I was only half joking because nuclear proliferation is a form of a self-fulfilling prophecy, just shows how applicable that concept is.

Right, I get the half joke, and like cheating, of course you could do whatever you want.

The analogies have drawn parallels to 9-11, Nazis, War, murder, you name it...

Yes, we know that people can do whatever they want. Anyone us could walk outside, pick up a brick and bash someone's head in with it. Then would could shout aloud, "See?!?! I can do whatever I want! See?!?!"

It's all neato, and we all get it.

Well...self-fulfilling prophecies are not about justifying an action or anything its just a statement about how people, espescially in groups think.

Doesn't say its ok to beat people in the face with bricks, just that if you are seriously worried about that happening you are more likely to pre-emptively carry a blunt masonry object along...and others will follow, because who is that creepy guy with a fucking brick.

So its not about anarchy and doing wut I want because I look good and am on Maury Povich.

I agree with the first statement, which removes the need for further explanation.

I was talking about how people can do whatever they want...A popular "defense" here.

You're right. They ARE just games. I don't know why people are so crazy about them.

Soccer is like 75% of the worlds life lol. ya to poeple who dont like sport games, yes they are just games. But to those who love them, they are waaayy more than that. Just watch the World Cup some day. People litterally passed out in the streets in South Korea in 2002. Billions of people play soccer ^^. And in Mexico you do know want to be that guy that loses your teams chance at winning. A guy got killed in 1986 word cup for losing for Mexico lol

Brazil > Rest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm a big Fifa fan myself

PFFFTTTTTTT Brazil!! Yes they are good, but damn man, you dont have to hog every word cup lol I was happy when they lost last word cup

*mexico4tw ; ;*

Yeah, it's just a game. So are football, baseball, basketball, hockey, jai alai, soccer, polo, tennis, pingpong, and dodgeball. In some of the more entertainment-deprived parts of the world, so is curling.

They're all games.

In each "game" (or sport) there are rules. Breaking those rules carries a penalty. Why? Because breaking them is either A) providing an unfair advantage, B) harmful to another player, or C) unsportsmanlike in some other way.

Now let's talk about option C for a sec.

Good sportsmanship is something that's prolly not hyped up as much as it once was, but I'm still a big believer in it. It builds character. It teaches that getting there isn't nearly as important as how you get there. Not only is unsportsmanlike conduct likely to land you in the hotseat with gaming officials, it's apt to earn you some well-deserved ostracism from other players, spectators as well.

This game has rules too. You agree to them each and every time you log on. If you never bothered to read them, that's just your own ignorance - not an excuse. Disobeying them to gain an upper hand says a lot about your character, or rather your lack thereof.

If you can't see that, you're either in denial or just a flat-out dumbass. I'd lean in the direction of it being a bit of both.

What else is just a game to you? School? Work? (dare I say it) Life? After all, that's all in the perception, right? If school's just a game to see who can get the best grades, or even just a game to see who can squeak by with the least effort, would you cheat there too? If work's just a game to see who can make the most money and all's fair, I'm sure there's some former Enron execs that could give you a few tips. If life's just a game to see how much you can personally enjoy yourself, go ahead and cheat there too - every chance you get. Psychology has a name for people in that last category; they call them "sociopaths." Me, I just call it evil.

So to all of you out there who wanna cheat(hack) or knowingly associate with those who do while hiding behind the "It's Just a Game" defense:

You can kiss my old-fashioned, morally absolute ass.

P.S. This is coming from someone who's never cheated on anything. Ever.

The problem with cheating is it's like a virus, once someone uses one, others will follow suit to compete.

This is not just a regular Video Game like FF VII, GTA or KOTOR or something. It's different because unlike those other games there are actually real people on the other side of the screen. You cheat in a regular video game you're cheating AI, if you cheat in FF XI you're cheating real people.

And look at it from the other side, what are you cheating people for? Pieces of computer code that form fake objects on a screen. Even if you say they're symbols of accomplishment, you didn't accomplish anything, you cheated.

The did accomplish one thing though, they beat you to it. While you are going back triing to get what they already have, they moved on to something else that you will possible have next on your list of things to have. Cheated, didn't cheat, if you both want the same thing then well simple fact is they beat you.

I don't know whether to laugh, or laugh louder.

So what?

People hit lvl 75 faster, people beat Kirin faster, beat Maat, etc. I probably haven't been the first to do anything on this game, once again so what?

People I know got their degree before me, got a house before me, so what?

They're people in my LS who got stuff before me, and people I let take stuff before me even though it was my turn, cause I thought they could use it more.

Since when is the game a race, and to some people how they get something is more important then just having it. Someone could buy gil and buy and Osode, even a Haidate, or whatever else. You got it before other people, and I hate to keep repeating myself, so what?

To me it sounds like you're bitter about it.

Now I really am laughing.

No, the cheaters don't beat anyone. The Hack they are using is what wins. The cheaters gain the benefit of it.

But theres a big difference between sports and video games, and that's just it. Sports are SPORTS. Video games are something you go home to play for fun.

Actually, only real difference between sports and video games is, sports have legitimate professionals, i.e. people who get paid to "play". There is no real benefit from sports, they are just things you watch, or participate in, for fun.
