its official, rng was nerfed.

I agree completely. That's why I said in my first post that this nerf was introduced way too late.

I always loved rangers being in exp parties. Well, the good rangers who are well equipped.

I'm not sure how my last post actually sounded but it is true that rangers pay a lot for their exping...and now ...they're going to be forced to pay more...

I don't see why S-E thinks people are going to pay more money now to do the same damage if they were another job... look at thf, they seem to be improving that to balance it out, maybe we shoudl play thief. I always thought rangers pretty much deserved their damage because of the costs they are subjected to.

I levelled my ranger to 39... but I couldn't afford to take it higher because I had a blm needing elemental staves...

The other thing is...if I was already a high level ranger... I don't want to have to level another stupid melee job to do less than what I was already doing and deal with the crap levelling comes with (NOOBS! MPKs,! The "Oh I have to go 30 minutes after the party formed" excuses).

People chose the ranger because of what it offerred....now it's saying... "We're downsizing on the damage people..." Everyone has been notified... Times are changing, we've got to synergize..and change with the times. If you'd like to stay, you can at a reduced damage... if not... go find another JOB!

Yeah, but you seemed to think the nerf was a good thing (if I'm thinking of the right person, too many people in thread). At first sight it doesn't seem good to me. I'm sure people will adapt, but this just adds to the list of things that make this game more like a chore and less and less fun for me. And I'm not even a RNG.

Shift those paradigms, baby!

The only way I think that rng's have really been nerfed are in the solo department. The whole reason why rng's are complaining is because they all took the ranged out of ranged attack for so long that it became the standard. And before anyone says it, I'm not a "whinning melee" or anything of the sort; I had no problem keeping up with a rng in terms of damage and TP, as long as they didn't spam sidewinder.

You have to admit that rng's were overpowered in a big way. You did consitent damage, which was always a large number, to mobs while everyone else had to deal with a damage range. Yes, you paid for your damage, but the price of ammo isn't nearly that bad if you bothered to try leveling woodworking or alchemy. I planned on leveling rng myself to at least level 40 for bcnm's, and maybe to take it to 75. This update isn't going to change a thing for me, other than I'll be standing a little further away.

This change should have been in the game from release. I understand why the rng's are crying out against it, but only because the game's been out for so long.

Not just those affected directly, either, but the people who have gotten used to the way the system works and have found ways to work with it. I suppose SE doesn't want to set the precedent of just buffing people more and more, but it would be interesting to see how people would react to SE making the other DD do more instead of nerfing job X.

Well aparently many people are pissed off. Cuz PoL and FFXI got hit with some hackers.

ALthough my RNG is only 42, i am deeply distrot with this "mistake" as it were that SE has made. Thankfully this was not my main job, however it was my main job for where a DD was needed, Promys, BCNMs etc. Now i no longer have use of a RNG anymore. Hell even RNG will become obsolute in Ballista. Im pretty pissed at SE, because although it was not my main, it was very fun job to play. I now plan on selling all my RNG gear and never using this job for a long long time.....

BTW i feel this is more of a flame....hell im flaming SE. So maybe it should be shifted?

I do think the nerf is a good thing, because in theory balance leads to better enjoyment of the game.

I certainly agree with you that by disrupting certain "tried&true" dynamics, it could seem that the nerf is actually hurting more than fixing, and that might even be true in the near future.

But as people get used to it (as with everything else that has come before) I still think that the more levelled DD field will lead to people trying different variants and finding new "flavors" to the game.

When there are "clearly better" setups that make everything else "gimp" it's hard to take chances or to try new approaches to xping. And that quickly turns every xp party into a chore, at least for me.

As BLM, for example, I'm in love with SAMs because a good SAM is a source of endless SC fun. A SAM that actually loves his job wants to SC above anything else so they will close SCs after some other melee fires a WS by mistake, change SCs on the fly if somebody misses, or just set up "extra" SCs with the tank for fun. And as BLM, nothing is more fun than constantly being in your toes to see what SC is happening, and adlib the MB of the appropiate element.

But SAMs are far and between, and they will be at best the second choice of every leader because they are "gimped". Probably the same thing with DRGs, those guys get so little love i think i may have been in just one party with them past 50. MNK is a bit better but not much in that list.

When people get used to the way things are "supposed" to be, everything is harder for people who want to try alternative ways. And by god, this game lets you do a lot of wild things if you find the way.

The more balanced the classes are, the more inclined people will be to try new things. And that's, imo, what a MMORPG is supposed to be about.

It seems everyones answer is run around a bit more

From my expierences in levle 75 parties...the mob will come to me... and usually stick on me for abit... some instances enough where i go through 9 shadows (Ni-Ni-ichi) If i barrage mid fight lets just say.. and then the mob comes to me... and i want to finish it off... well illl be doing a gimped slug shot.. Basically because of this and only because of this... i wouldnt be surprised if ranger is outdamaged by DRG.... im not not spending 16k per stack of demon arrows to be outdamaged by other melee jobs

for Kirin... im not sure...Kirin runs alot so maybe hell run into our prime range.. for Weaponskills... slug shot is normally done in a skillchain.. but even if it is done solo a lot of the times it is done during Kirins big casting.. so that shouldnt be a problem

I actually dont think ranger will get effected very much during kirin....however XP party.. its gonna be horrible

Solo wise..... not even worth it....just retarded.....

I'd like to add... when i first heard about this update i actually kinda liked it.. i liked the whole idea of being a true ranger... sitting back spamming arrows....and you know.. maybe if they gimped the damage for close range 25% i wouldnt mind... i mean a 1000 slug shot to 750 slug isnt as bad... but 50% or so is just horrible

If this drives away a lot of rangers, then on the bright side, the demand for arrows and bullets will decrease, and the prices for such will drop accordingly. When everyone in the game was levelling ranger for a fast ride to 75, the demand for ranger goods was never higher. All of the quitters will make the ranger job better for the survivors.

they PAY for there damage

That's a somewhat valid point, but in today's Vanadiel of gil buying, rampant inflation and generally chaotic economy you can't really expect money to balance jobs.

And in any case, costs are not necesarilly fair. Take a peacock charm (how much is that now ? 10-20-30M gil ?) and that means probably more arrows than you will ever shoot. Now put a DRG with a peacock charm and a RNG without one (but with lots of arrows) looking for group. Who will get picked up first ?

So no, money doesn't cut it.

Most retarded Thing ive ever heard

I really have no idea what you are trying to say..yes money does cut it... we pay for arrows for damage.. im not sure if you are trying to say all rangers buy gil or w/e

also... dont bring up peacock charms... because everyone complained about those too.... now they get access to a rare/ex version through camping a NM

so.. people complain about ranger... next complain about getting gear.. what do they want next? all melee jobs minus ranger to get job abbilities to make them equal to ranger since ranger paying for ammo "doesnt cut it"

el, don't forget they gimped the damage done on mobs much higher lvl like kirin and other hnms/gods

Yeah thats making me want to level RNG for endgame stuff  You know im noticing alot of non rangers saying to get over it.....im sorry i just find that funny

I took a friend out to test. It's pretty darn significant. I figure in an EXP scenario if a ranger moves in close for the weaponskill it'll fully negate the advantage of a thief stacking their sa/ta onto the tank. It's going to be at least 300 damage on a sidewinder. Out in battalia my friend took a 500 damage loss to his slugshot just by standing behind the mob.

Rangers are now paying for the players who abused the job. They formed ranger only parties. They belittled meleers by refusing to invite them when you didn't have an excuse not to. They sucked up to people because they played ranger too while casting aside people they considered inferior. Consider this a blanket punishment.

It's sortof french revolutionesque.

Well, I faught Genbu tonight, average anywhere from 20-50 dmg a hit... no higher than 375 weaponskill... Suzaku... 90 dmg was my tops (tested from every different angle + distance)... so um yeah SE has pretty well fucked us horribly. I don't see how people will kill KIrin now without a bunch of BLM.
-------

now you're gonna see everyone and their mom play blm.

Hah, you RNGs called us melees whiners, crybabies, etc... when we felt weak compared to RNG. Now look at yourself, you're doing the same goddamned thing crying and bitching when you feel weak compared to melees.

So don't insult us, ok? If you had picked a melee job in the beginning you would have joined the bitching and moaning crowd in no time. So stop being so high and mighty and degrading us. Last time I checked, playing a job class doesn't make you a good or cool person, it's just who you are.

More gil --> more damage? Cut me some slack, my WAR has almost 10mil in equipments yet it couldn't reach the damage a RNG with 2mil-gears could do. BRD costs less than other mage jobs to function properly, yet it's still the most demanding job.

And don't give me that crap about arrows cannot be sold back, because back when the WHMs complained about having to spend millions spells thats not resellable while non-mage jobs could sell their armors back, the response was "What career <insertjobhere> sell their endgame gears? That's a moot point". There is more to this, but I won't go in details.

And most of all, you guys make it sound as if it's the end for RNG. RNG can still does the same damage at some distance (not counting the level dif. thing, don't know how much it affects RA yet). Things affected in group activities: THF+RNG party, kited mobs. RNGs don't do these things only, do they?

Like Synical said, the only thing that sucks is the RNG's ability to solo. But that's tough NMs we're talking about. RNG/THF is still only second to THF/RNG in the farming, camping normal NMs department.

useing the same argument, why didnt all the melee DD play RNG? would have stopped the whining all right.

oh thats right, you wanna be a WAR. You like it because its cool, you get to swing that big axe around and smack the hell out of somthing.

Me? i wanna be a ranger. they're cool. Thier AF just screams "cool," and they get Guns! How cool are Guns?!

some of us didnt pick the job just to be "uber l337 DD" We picked it for the same reason you picked War. Its US who are most hurt by this update.

On average, how much do you spend per battle? Not includeing food, since RNG and WAR should be useing similarly priced food in an EXP party.

Me, if i use a Gun, about 60-70k an exp party. With X.Bow, somewhere around 40k, but thats because i make my own Bolts.

I'm prety sure your gil does go down each time you swing that axe.

(oh, and BTW, i could outspend your WAR on gear 3-1)

No, its not the end of RNG. But its the end of RNG in an exp party with anything other than a PLD.

RNG cannon is GONE. RNGx2 BLMx2 is GONE. RNG + NIN is GONE. RNG + THF is almost gone.

All RNG can do now is be with a PLD, and stand at the back. Missing any BRD songs, catching aggro in small camps, maybe SCing with a regular Melee.

Erm, our ability to solo ANYTHING that isnt 30 lvls below us is gone.

Tried to solo a Gobbue in Zi'tah. Had to use Barrage AND Shadowbind just to survive.

This is sorta like the mages complaining about old spells not being sellable, but it goes beyond that. WHM has almost zero use for Cure1, but PLing a friend in the dunes, or helping that lvl 30 get thier Kazham keys, you gonna use Cure4/5?

Once ive shot an arrow, its not coming back. I cant use all those Bronze bolts from lvl 1-10 again when soloing crap in Gustaberg. They're gone. Gotta buy new ones.

also, most melee engame gear consists of Rare/EX stuff from quests/NMs/Dynamis, Once a WAR has that Kirins Osode, he gonna hang on to that dusty ol Hauberk? probably not.

You said that last one twice.

Lastly, i'm probably not the only one who would have been totaly fine with the update if it haddent affected WS. Its the need to stand back to do a WS thats caused all the problems with exp PT, not the ranged attack.
