Re: Goodbye?

No, I'm not a doctor, but I do have an almost eidetic memory when it comes to text and useless information, so I have an excellent declarative memory. I can't for the life of me remember dates, names and faces, though, to the point that the only phone number I know is my home number as that's been the same for 23 years. I don't even know my own mobile number, and I suspect I have a weak form of prospagnosia - to the dismay of my customers, as I can't remember who asked me to fetch something from the back of the store, even if it only takes 3 min to get. I mean, I can differentiate between faces. I know what people look like, I just can't for the life of me remember their name or if it was them that asked me to get something. I can read a text once and remember most everything about it, though. It gives me a really hard time deciding what I want to focus on. I've been contemplating law, doctor, programming, astrology, physics, engineering, chemistry, psychology... I'm like a RL RDM - jack of all trades, master of none <.<

So yeah, I have an excellent declarative memory - but I am extremely forgetful in all other parts. I can't ever remember where I placed something, or if I even locked my door when I'm 10 steps away from the door, possibly because I'm always thinking and theorizing about something. My mother suspects its ADHD, but I suspect its a a case of neuroticism, which would go well in hand with my inability to interact with people on a level deemed OK, as I have a tendency to talk about things that bore them - like science, religion, history or politics - or I get very rude and condescending, although that might be a case of narcissism, I'm not sure. The jury's still out on that one. I don't really fit in on neuroticism either, though, because I suspect I have 0 stress hormones. We could be in the middle of a nuclear war, and I would still be calm as a dead body and contemplate whether I should make salad or pie for dinner.

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You probably have some form of HFA, that second paragraph sound suspiciously like Asperger Syndrome. I do the same thing a lot.

Re: Goodbye?

I don't think its HFA, I think ADHD is more likely since both of my sisters has it. I personally think its a mix between Neuroticismic personality and ADHD or ADD. It wouldn't surprise me since, as I said, both of my sisters has it. I don't really have a problem interacting with people like that, perhaps I misspoke a bit. I do tend to bore them because I enjoy talking about my interests, they're just not others interests, but I can still talk to people, I'm just not very outgoing and rather shy. I hate being in social situations where there's only a few people, I prefer larger groups. Extremely forgetful is also a diagnosis of ADD and ADHD, and is a part of being distracted in your own thoughts. I have no problem concentrating in class, conversations etc, but I tend to drift away in thoughts doing mundane tasks such as locking the door, putting things away etc. which is why I never remember where I put things, and can end up searching for my keys for hours.

If you've seen the movie "The Switch", I'm pretty much exactly like him and his kid. Perhaps that's why I actually liked it :/

Re: Goodbye?

The raccoon's hypothesis, duh!

Re: Goodbye?

Wow Uzor, it sounds like you and I are birds of a feather ... mostly anyway. I remember phone numbers rather easily, if the people they dial are important to me. But for the life of me I can't pick out my friend's newish (2 months now) car in a parking lot. The other day I seriously was just chillin' next to some random guy's passenger side door waiting for the door to unlock when I noticed my friend walking further past me and behind a van to where his car was parked. This doesn't happen all the time, but I typically have trouble with it most of the time. I also remember stuff that doesn't even apply to me, things like how far you can park from a stop sign (can't drive). I had trouble deciding on a major ... don't go with philosophy unless you intend to go into medicine or law.

Re: Goodbye?

Well, that's partly why I took it - and because I find it fascinating. I've friends that work within the abovementioned areas (as well as biology, but that's not something I want to work with, even though I find it interesting), so I often hold discussions with them about various subjects. My father's a politician, and we have two widely different political opinions - even if we agree on a lot - so we discuss/argue about that as well... Heh. I've been debating/discussing since the age of 5... I dunno why, I just enjoy it, and I find it a very good way to analyze your own opinions and knowledge.

We've completely hijacked Myrrh's thread, he needs to pop in and tell us how it goes so we can get back on track!

I was a Doctor once, but then they told me I wasn't a real Doctor and I cried :'(

More doctor talk Uzor, I almost came.
I only speak doctor when people ask questions. Otherwise I just ramble incomprehensibly and float from subject to subject. This is how it would work out otherwise:

I might mention the immune system, which naturally leads on to the subject of T-cells and B-cells, which can either lead to the evolution of said cells, or HIV and how you can cure that through bone marrow transplant, or how the immune system works, or just pure genetics. This can either lead to me rambling about how viruses long ago changed our DNA through the insertion of RNA, which the human cells then adopted and is now a vital part of our genome, or how humans might have mated with neanderthals, or how bonemarrow transplants adopts the immune system of the donor, or the average lifespan of various immune cells.

This can then lead to a talk about the entire evolutionary process and the importance of oxygen and it's impact, or how currently scientists are trying to develop a method to adopt the immune system of the organ donor in order to prevent organ rejection in patients after a woman in Australia changed her blood type and immune system to that of the donor after a liver transplant, or how the moon has affected the earth's creation and life.

This can lead to me talking about how the moon was created, or how catastrophes that killed off almost all life on earth has positively effected evolution, or how earlier human populations has been obsessed with music throughout their evolutionary process, or my theory on how religion was created... And not to forget, if you take the evolution route, how the first life was created, and the earth's evolution, and the solar system's creation etc. With doctor speak as a basis, I would have a hard time moving on to history, but I could probably find a way eventually. Psychology would be easier to move on to.

The list goes on. If I were allowed to ramble on forever, I could probably talk for days... My friends usually call me a walking encyclopedia - whether that is good or bad I don't know.
