This made my day. Jack Thompson on G4

For those that are not familiar with this idiot he's the lawyer who sued Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto and he's also made the stance that Video Game Violence causes people to be violent outside of video games. He's tried to link Colombine to video game violence as well. He has a list of games that he's tried to link the to real world violence. Halo (Halo 1 & 2) Doom, Grand Theft Auto Series and most recently Rockstar's latest game Bully.

Jack Thompson is right. I use flamethrowers and rocket launchers on all my friends in real life all the time and I teabag them right after. I have pre-marital sex with prostitutes and kill them shortly after I've climaxed to pick up the glowing green wad of money in real life. And now, I will go to the public school a few blocks from here and dunk minority students' heads into toilets. brb.

you mean to say you don't run people with your car, wait for the ambulance to come, steal the ambulance and ram them with their own car, and then go on a rampage around the block and ram some more people, only to wait for the police to come, and make the ambulance so damaged that its about to blow up, only to drive towards the police cars, and then jump out, making it explode and kill a lot of police men, later running somewhere else and repeat the whole process?

If it weren't for Jack Thompson, I wouldn't know about this game. He has given it more publicity than any multi million dollar add campaign could have ever hoped to achieve.

He does nothing but hurt his cause and make people dislike him.

If you don't want your kids to play this game, don't buy it for them. If you don't want your kids to interact with other children that play this game don't send them to public school and don't use the television as a substitute for a baby sitter.

If you can't afford to stay home with your kids and be as protective as you need to be, don't have kids. Children are not toys, they are not collectibles, they are not your friend. They are your responsibility.

Jack Thompson believes he is a man on fire, but when there is no more money in it for him, he'll just go back to being what he always was, a lwyer.

Yeah, in all hoensty, I wouldn't even have known about the game "Bully" unless he go on ranting about how bad it is <.<; And I certainly wouldn't have gone to ign to search for it XD

Agreed, I would've just passed up the game as another stupid little kids game, but the game looks fun. Thanks Jack!:wink:
 
Thompson is a complete moron (so much so, I won't go into what he said), but I would seriously like to punch Adam Sessler in the face as well. He was a hot-head for the entire interview and kept jumping topics in a frantic effort to get one-over on Thompson. Grant it, he had good (albeit unelaborated) points, but he was completely unprofessional about it (figures, he works for G4) and basically proved Thompson's point about aggression in gamers. Whew, good job Adam, you scored one for us, there.

Friedler, on the other hand, was the only "real" person there with objective, logical views and statements. Also, he had all the more credibility being a father and actually putting his personal parenting experience on the table. Even when Thompson tried to change the issue, Friedler kept his cool, smiled to himself and said, "Well, it is the issue."

To Friedler: Good job, we need more people like you to knock these ultra right-wing nutjobs down a few pegs.

To Sessler: Thanks for representing gamers and making us look bad. Think first about who you're representing before you get pissed and run your mouth on TV!
 
GOD DO I LOVEEEE ADAM SESSLER he fucking OWNED him :) this guy has been doing nothing but bashing video games, why doesnt he bash the news for the violence shown on the news, or bash The coyote for attaching a fucking rocket to his ass and shooting him self at the road runner....
 
This whole thing with Jack Thompson is getting annoying. It is funny and true what was said above :P I knew nothing about "Bully" until this XD haha... (didn't know it existed.. still sounds stupid though) and I like that one guy that was saying how parents need to take some more god damn responsibility. I agree with that. But, I'm sure there are cases where a child does the violent shit s/he sees on a game or TV but those cases are rare, I think. Sooo Jack's making a big deal outta shit he shouldn't. Frankly, parents and the game stores need to be the ones to make sure this stuff isn't seen by the children if they think it's really not suitable for em.

The people who do that have to have a screw lose in the first place, and they would most likely do it sooner or later at one point in life either way. They might aswell get the idea from a dream or a book. If you try to do something shown in a movie or on a game, you have problems seeing the difference between reality and fantasy. And those that have that problem can get their ideas from anything, not just from games or TV.

I think shows like Jackass etc. are far more dangerous to people, as those are real stunts made by real people.

I mean, sure. we'd all like to have super powers and instantly teleport from home to work or school. Who wouldn't, it would save a whole lot of time each day. But those that actually BELIEVE they can fly and jump off a building because they saw superman fly are just crazy. And that's not TV or video games fault. People just try to blame it on something, and video games are the new black sheep.

I have seen this vid posted at a few sites, all with similar headlines. Jack's a prick, but Sessler was a stuttering mess. He didn't really bring anything new to the table, aside from the same re-hashed argument: There was violence before video games. Everyone knows that, and Jack doesn't really care.

I'm not saying I'm pro-Jack. I think it would be fitting for someone to dress up like Duke Nukem and shoot him a few times. I'm just saying that agreeing with someone doesn't mean the other guy got 'served.' You want pwnage, watch Jon Stewart vs. Tucker Carlson. That's how you do it.

Sessler was a mess...it was the other guy that kicked his ass xD. When you make an arguement and somebody puts up a rebutle that draws on the core of the arguement you made and you simply say "That's not the issue" when that is the issue...you've lost

Yeah I think the mark guy made the best point:

"At the end of the day, its the parents responsibility as to what game their children play and its their responsibility to know how their kids spend their time."

Or something like that anyway. Really, like Adam said, the game isn't some virus which we're all gonna play and instantly go on violent rampages or something. Maybe there are some kids whose minds can't handle some images and causes them to be prone to violent acts, but that goes back to their parents picking up some responsibilities. Just because some kids can't handle it doesn't mean it should be banned for everyone, those kids should just be kept away from it.

The only thing Sessler did to pwn Jack (johnson) Thompson was interrupting him and not giving him a chance to show how crazy he really is.
There seems to be two groups of people on this debate, those that think Jack Thompson is and idiot and Adam Sessler is god OR those that think Jack Thompson is and idiot and so is Adam Sessler.
I'm trying not to sway to either side. The guys at Penny Aracade made a valid point Thompson gains power through the attention people give him http://www.penny-arcade.com/2006/08/11. I also know from my expierences at gamepolitics.com that he will do anything for attention even if you ignor him. For those of you unfamiliar with the whole gamepolitics situation, Thompson would spam the site with his rantings and would make new screen names even after he was banned (yes, it was the real jack and not some poser).
