Job Adjustments and Additions Part II (03/30/2009)

/sigh Give us acc spell but make it so are spells cast slower way to go Se. Was expecting more after seeing the whm update. Maybe attack ability enhance by enhancing or acc ablity enhance by enfeb spells but this won't help because still spend have the time casting and less time swinging. That better be 1 hell of a acc buff.

Composure is a job ability, not a spell.

It reminds me of Hasso, only with just the accuracy. Though, there's also the part where it says "Enhancement effects gained through white and black magic you cast on yourself last longer." So basically trading slower recasts for higher physical accuracy and longer buff durations.

...Meh. It'll make soloing a bit more interesting at least.

If by some chance you can cast the tier II Enspells on other party members, in the same fashion as Phalanx II, maybe it won't be so bad.

I was really expecting them to do something rather stupid for rdm. Shocked it is not as bad as I thought it could of been. Honestly rdm needs no updates.

I'll withhold judgment until I actually see how much more dmg the new smn bloodpacts do.

Mayhaps it will be enough to keep up with some of the other DDs in the game, allowing smn to become more than a buffer job... We'll see in a couple weeks.

Ya ability that what I meant to say. Well good news is that not only melee acc boost but also a magic acc to so maybe this be enough get us out from having to use elemental staff. (SE needs a new translation team) Or maybe with staffs give us enough ma acc to land spells that in past would need elemental seal to land. Be good for anything where not /nin or using joy toy. Could make enhancing sword popular again. Just hope those tier 2 are atleast 4 times that of tier 1 and atleast twice the duration.

SE is presenting enspellII as a way to reduce Magic Evasion, but for it to work you need decent accuracy in the first place. It's not really a issue with TP feeding, as you won't feed anything if you don't hit.

*if* the acc bonus is decent, you could go for a few melee hits with enaeroII until you hit then cast your slowII on Odin. If that's how SE is planning you to use it, then there is a huge chance the recast penalty is going to be huge in order to discourage auto attacking. Now you can cancel the stance and enjoy your 3 minute slow. For this to be usefull, the meva down needs to be decent though or we won't bother, i'd say hq staff - esque.

Somehow they gave composure benefits for enhancing spells, so it'll be either high recast and a footwork-like job ability that you'd use once every 5 min to enhance refresh/aquaveil/phalanx/haste or a fake lightart. In either case it's a nice boost w/o being powerfull.

imo. the en-spells will be utter failure unless the additional effect is +60 per hit, as it will only kick in on the FIRST hit. That means no Joy toy or offhand benefiting from off-hand. So unless the additional effect is 66 at the least, people probably will not use it for meleeing unless they melee with a shield or daggers for no TP feeding.

Well, I'm happy with the WHM update. I do think they should have released the part 2 one first though, as it is complete fail in comparison to the WHM one.

RDM don't need anymore upgrades - honestly I barely get invites on WHM as is.

As for the SMN thing - the hastega is nice and the increased AOE of Stuff like Ward will be nice....was really expecting a bit more though :(

People need to think outside the box a bit more. This is yet another way to reduce m.eva in addition to the already existing ways and gives rdms a more valid reason to be using Death Blossom for even more -m.eva. Depending on how strong the effect is, we might be landing enfeebles on mobs we never thought previously possible. Stop thinking so much about how much dmg your melee will do and look at the long term here.

well would not go that far rdm has been unchanged pretty much from day 1 of the game we are way past overdue for and update of some kind. They most likly will be another smn update down the road as still owe us some summons.

I'm still skeptical even if you look at it from a magic evasion perspective. It'll most likely be just as useless as the ninjutsu elemental wheel and AM spells in reducing resists.

Wasn't rdm nerfed before because it was TOO good? SE removed flash, hgher lv regens, etc from rdm to give whm a chance at being able to do anything. Considering how dominating rdm was over whm until sch and repose came out I think those actions were appropriate.
DO you really think SE was going to add something anywhere NEAR what whm got? rdm has been stomping the ground flat with whm since the game came out(other than being a raise 3 machine) and now that whm is almost on par with rdm in terms of overall usefulness or being wanted by parties(the whm buff hasnt technically happened yet) you want rdm to get a bufff to such a degree where it might be able to overshadow whm?
Brd really has been dethroned as the princess job. Same with cor.

I was not there when rdm had flash but tanking would have been really easy. They nerfed because they didn't want them to be primarly tanks, although things have changed and they aknowlege rdm tanking in their AV video..

Thing is it would not been anything like whm got would been in whole different direction. Had they made it lower recast but longer duration it would made them more optable for long fights on mobs that don't dispel or slow II. This update would been just as epic if the would change yourself to party. That 1 word is what going end up making this update a utter fail to make rdm frontline if the recast timer anything above 10% slower. However would also not been bad to give rdm a couple new spells would be nice since the only unique spell redmages have anymore is refresh, and even that not trully unque. As for it not broken don't fix it there nothing wrong with giving alittle tuneup to keep if from getting broken. Preventive maintenance FTW.

You have no idea what you're talking about, so stop already. RDM lost flash years ago, back when the ONLY tanks were WAR/PLD; this was years before rdm tanking, or even brd tanking. The lost flash as well as the other spells for the exact reason Khajit mentioned; because there was zero reason to invite a WHM when there was a RDM looking.
not that im disagreeing but what would having flash and banish make whm less desirable. Now regen I can see at time regen III was not out if I remember correctly, but now giving rdm back those spells would not hurt whms.

Flash, nothing really, but they removed the spells all at the same time.

I can see SE's logic behind giving RDM the next tier in -en spells. Since SCH came along, they get much more use out of them than RDM's do, which seems kinda odd for a RDM exclusive spell. The fact that they have additional effects seems to be a way of making them useful in a party situation; whether or not they will be remains to be seen.

RDM originally had Cure V, Regen III, Flash, and Holy. In other words, the only WHM-exclusives were Stona and Raise II/III (and the higher Curagas I guess...) before those spells were removed from RDM... making WHM essentially useless.

Even now, people just don't understand what makes a WHM arguably as good as if not better than an RDM for a merit burn setup. If RDM got any of those back (well, other than Holy) it would be even more absurd. RDM's been the poster child for healing since the cap was raised to 75. That title should go back to WHM, finally, with the next update...

SE promises us an RDM update. I wait all this time for this update hoping for something good. My friend texts me this morning telling me we got Enspell-II's and Composure. I was hoping he was lying. He wasn't.... FML

I find it difficult to believe that RDMs really expected more than something incredibly minor, considering how fantastic the job already is.

RDM doesn't need any buff anyway, what were you all expecting? It's imo the most powerfull job..

I think what most critics of RDMs seeking melee prowess are failing to understand is that RDM is portrayed as a Melee Mage. While it'd be nice to have our cake and eat it too, we have mostly just wanted something to justify being able to melee from time to time.

I personally was hoping for a SAM like JAs that gave us focus on one thing or the other, while not impairing us completely on both. Frankly I'm somewhat disappointed, but that doesn't mean that the potential isn't there.
