Job Balancing update and details

Well currently my Vorpal blades average 240 or so. With defender off, berserk on for that quick second, warcry, company sword, and the kind of str a pld has, I bet we could average 400 damage or so. Add in another hit on that, 450+ at least. Now that may not sound amazing to most, but if you consider the amount of damage we were doing before, it is.

PLD can definately benefit from some sort of MP recovery ability. Auto-refresh would be nice. I can't wait to get me an Ethereal earring for the damage to MP. Shield reduc % to MP conversion would be a little broken.

yay. no more GS for Drk and more effective dark magic FTW!

I wouldnt celebrate just yet.

Increasing it enough that it is more appealing than GS would. It would take a massive increase in DoT or large improvement to ws dmg (as you stated yourself) combined with a movement in the sc chart so it can do light.

How is that overpowering at all? Spinning Slash gets fuxed by the slow ass tp gain on drk/thf. People dig the big 2k dmg from Spinning Slash and light but in the long run it is much slower than what some other jobs can produce. Giving something to drk that would put it on an equal standing to some other DDs(mnk, war, etc) would be overpowering?

if they are finnaly gonna make it a factor in our BP's power they should meet us halfway on this.

Overpowering compared to other jobs is hard to measure. SE avoids this by rarely making changes that make a signifigant boost to any job. Too them, it is much safer to just nerf what they don't like, than boost something enough to persuade them to use that instead. Whether the change would be overpowering isn't as important as the risk it might be to SE.

ya DRK is a 1 strong DD like thf. mnk is a DOT (damage over time) in the long run on long fights a mnk beats a drk hands down DDing nothing can be said about that the drk w/o sj is not as powerful DD and when it has hate it dies ; ;. mnk easy can Chi blast the damage a drk does from ws then can ws there own so they are all rdy one up, then drk hit does say 100 but a monks does 40 a hit 100>80 (40+40) but mnk is fasterr so after like 5th attack on drk mnk is on 10
500<800 and now mnk has tp again and WS and owned

Regarding PLDs, shouldn't it be, along with Auto-Refresh, they get a massive change in DEF? People prefer NIN's because of the mass amount of damage they can just simply blink away, right? And this in return, (according to research), makes NIN's preferable because of the high amount of damage that is dealt towards the end game EXP monsters or NMs/HNMs.

Should there be a tweak, Auto-Refresh won't make much of a difference. It's nice to have, but really, a PLD's defense really needs to be boosted up to a point where it can match a NIN's ability to blink through damage. Where a PLD might take 150+ damage per hit, make their defense boost up -so much more- then it already is, so it drowns it to maybe like 50 or so. I mean, a PLD's a tank right? They're not being treated like one end game, which is a shame. I don't play PLD, but this is my view from what I have read.

I will continue to read the rest of this post, but as for now, I am playing catch up. No one should forget that meritable spells are going to be introduced with ToAU. Among those, I am hoping SE releases Protect V and Shell V. Would this help a ninja? Not really - as the damage is mostly blinked away. However, on PLD - the additional defense (hopefully totaling 75 -100 from a protect V versus 50 from protect IV) would help a lot I think.

I think PLD needs more hate generating techniques, and making those hate generating techniques abilities that increase defense would help a lot. Perhaps, making unique only to paladins, an ability like berserk that raises defense AND offense -- or perhaps armor, much like carapace armor, that is on a sliding scale based on health. Once again, making this armor unique to Paladins - possibly warriors too. (I know SE would love to see warrior tank again =p) :coco:

o0oO0ooo, I just had a brilliant idea. SE may or may not be concerned with thief, but as far as introducing more uses for Paladins - SE could consider adding hate to PLDs a different way. Enhance Trick Attack when used on a job class Paladin. (only for main THF - not sub, sorry - some things just should be for Thieves I think) Not only would thieves once again rejoice at the prospect of partying with a paladin... but a paladin tank in a thief cannon would kick ass! So many creative ideas =D

Aww, the poor summoners are bored of leveling Summoning Magic only to get .3/hr?

Level Guard. Post170, if you get .3/week, you're lucky.

Well I still dont think SE will nerf gsd and make drks lose the one thing that is going for them from 66-74/75. We'll just have to see.

At least you are doing something productive when you lvl guard skill....

like... killing anything.

Reguardless, it sucks leveling both skills. Of course if monks could be tanks like they were meant to be, it wouldn't be a problem.

To try and lvl either skill in a party setup is to "Play Wrong".

/sigh

The higher guard goes, the more dangerous it becomes to level it, alone atleast. Where as a summoner can park themselves outside in the newbie grounds and level.

an hour? what r u talking about. i ive gone months at a time with zip. why dont u try being a SMN first before critisizing our plight.

Preheps he mentioned it because certain smns think they're the only one with a pain in the ass skill to level.

I have 140 parry. 70 thf and 67 nin plus all those 37ish melees in my sig comment that could've possiblely obtained skillups here and there.

I'm an active farmer for my gil and have put in...countless farming hours in since oct of 2003, yet only have 140 parry.

So there is several pain in the ass skills to level.

Way to fly off the handle based off something posted that you agreed to. Jesus Christ, how does someone even possibly pull that off?

STR and DEX wise, there ain't a whole lot of difference between PLD and WAR, for example. In fact, a Galka PLD/WAR is (assuming the stat calculator I've got is correct, and given that it matches up pretty well with my stats, I suspect it is) stronger than a Hume WAR/NIN, and only a little behind on DEX, a difference which, in theory, is more than offset by the PLD's superior weapon skill.
I have yet to find a stat calc that is accurate, so my money is on yours being incorrect. I honestly have no idea what the STR rating for PLD is, but seeing as WAR has an A rating in it, I highly doubt they are equals. Race-wise, at 75WAR, I have (I think) 5-6 more base STR than a hume.

I didn't really want to touch on the gear issue, as any PLD could easily go out and load up with his regular tanking gearset, and then buy a secondary WS gearset. Your kind can equip enough modifier gear to dance almost equally with mine, so basing our argument on gear is a bad idea.

I honestly would really like to see a PLD geared up for DD, and do some tests face-to-face. I can't rip on em until I see it fail.

I believe str is a B for pld, but I'm 100% sure it's some kind of A for war.

Like I said, I dunno. Exact match to my stats as far as I can tell.

For the record, assuming it's right, at 75 (which I might add I now am, WOOHOO!) my STR is 75 (correct btw) and yours is 77. (as WAR/NIN) And your DEX is 66 to my 62. Of course, A+ rating in Sword vs A- rating in Axe gives PLD a theoretical 7 point lead in weapon skill.

I'm not saying that PLD can match WAR's damage output. All of our JA revolve around mitigating damage or retaining hate. Sword WS are rather weedy. Our trait/ability enhancing gear doesn't help damage either. But we're not totally feeble either. :P

A Summoner can't just stand around in a newbie area and expect to level Summoning Magic. I mean, they can, if they want to stand there for a year and a half. I've noticed that my Summoning Magic levels up more often when in a party and in a higher level area. This being said, I don't even bother leveling Summoning Magic, yet, because it is just easier to summon in a party and get some skillups. I've gotten a full level in my skill once from being in a party and I was pretty happy lol.
Also, Skaw, I believe she was agreeing with the "Make summoning magic easier to skill" rather then the 1 hour .3 skillup thing. Getting even .3 in an hour of summoning and releasing is lucky as far as i'm concerned. I've wasted a good 800 MP on summoning and didn't even get a .1. Sometimes you're lucky sometimes you arent.
