Gah. There goes the melees comparing damages again.

IMHO:

Post Lv 66: DRK/THF, MNK/THF (Yes Please!).

Anytime: THF/NIN (Yes Please!). SAM/THF (No Thanks!).

Now back the the subject of jobs I hate (to PT with):

I hate to PT with Summoners. They usually replace WHM in PT. But even with Earthen Ward, Aerial Armor, and Lunar Cry... I rather have a WHM. Why? Summoners can't teleport-Altep or teleport-Yhoat (even at Lv75), they don't get Cure IV or V, don't have Raise II, III, no Stona, no Protect III or IV, no Shell III or IV, etc.

I totally agree with this ... I almost changed my main job to Summoner once ... now I'm sooo glad I got too nervous getting my Avatars and choked all the time ... Svina has taught me to hate pretty much all Summoners ... and that's another story and should probably be in the flameboard threads soooo I won't touch on that ...

In the end though it's turned out well ... I'm focused again on just leveling my White Mage and goin' Pure Warrior on both jobs to level 75 ... if Svina wasn't such a #$%%^^ I just might thank her ... um ... NOT ...

In my previous post about Summoners, I assumed that the Summoner has a WHM subjob.

Yes I'm aware that Summoner don't naturally have teleports, cures, protect, etc. However, I've only PT with SMN/WHM. Any SMN who subs anything else should be shot.

SMN/BLM = 1337. just like my BRD/BLM.

The job I hate the most is the one that is severely under-equipped, missing 4-6 pieces of equipment, behind on spells and refuses to use any food or extend ANY effort because this dreaded excuse given by the player:

I am leveling up my subjob.

How is this a valid excuse? If you REALLY wanted to level your sub, you'd at least buy equipment that would help your job out so you'd become more efficient, do your job better for your party, kill things faster, roll in more EXP per hour, etc. You're not only hurting yourself by not playing your "Subjob" properly, or even half-way to decent, it doesn't make any sense to put something you loathe leveling as your subjob.

Hate ninja? Then don't be a THF/NIN. Loathe warrior? Then don't do THF/WAR. Despise leveling up THF? Don't do DRG or SAM/THF. Hell, you hate being a healer or summoner? Then don't even bother with playing BLM, as at some point, you're going to have to level RDM WHM or SMN. Or you could be like that player Bono on our server and skip subs altogether (63 BLM no sub last time I checked).

The summoner is not a bad class it's just chalk full of people who don't play it properly. Most summoners think they are a damage dealing class which is entierly untrue. NEVER leave your summons out to melee unless you're soloing. Also don't waste the stupid amount of MP that it takes to do the damage BPs pre level 70 - they do no damage and save your mp for the Buffs like Aerial Armor and backup healing. I can decrease the amount of downtime for a party greatly and bring EXP chains up to 5 no problem with my Buffs plus my backup healing which helps the WHM save MP hence less downtime. Also I've been in situations where me and the WHM alternate healing...I heal one battle while he/she sits and then I sit the next battle while he/she heals bringing the downtime to 0.
I've saved parties countless times when we grab a link - I sick a summon on it, tell it to retreat and follow me to the zone, problem solved. Not to mention the 2 hour on the summoner...which with proper food can be executed 3 times in a row for massive amounts of damage.
It makes me laugh when you see summoners in places like qufim and Kaz that only have 3 avatars or havn't taken the time or effort to max their summon skill. Summoner is like any other class in the game - If played right it can lower downtime and help with EXP chains, If played improperly or under-equipped, it brings the group down.
Yes we are not as good at healing as a whm but the last time I checked my main wasn't WHM it was summoner. We're closer to bards rather than WHMs and really shouldn't be expected to be as good as one - if we were, the WHM class would be useless. Sure I'll admit the summoner is chalk full of flaws that need to be fixed but so is every other class in the game. Look at the Paladin...Best tank in the game but doesn't naturally have provoke and HAS to sub a warrior in order to be effective.
I don't think any of the classes 'suck' in the game - Any class in a properly set up party with players who know what their doing works. This argument is exactly the same as the "I hate how people think Elvaan can't be BLM" post in the Flameboard, just in a different context...

I asked around, and was told that TA-ViperBite does 100-300 damage.

Im not comparing penis size, or super damage output, or anything like that. Dont be presumptuous. What I'm saying is that you need to hit hard with TA-Only in order to dump a good ammount of hate (and thus perform the hate control job well).

Theif really needs to combine sneak and trick to do this. DRK and SAM with /THF sub do not.

If I am wrong, please post why. I am always eager to learn.

Reason why I say a x/thf needs to combine sneak with trick is because not only is the dmg modifier lower for ta>ws, but also 100% of the dmg isn't redirected onto the tank. Thats just speculation of course since it would tough to actually measure. But it makes sense b/c using a ja from a subjob is not up to par with the main job using the same ja. Just b/c you see a number in the 300-400 range doesn't mean you've dumped a substantial amount of hate. That would only apply for the main job.

Another reason why a x/thf would need to use both sa/ta >ws is because the dmg dealt is higher. Daggers have low dmg so no matter how hard a thief hits a monster, the thief won't draw aggro away unless they sa/ta>ws behind the other melee person.

Drk and mnk can deal serious dmg over time. Tta>ws is a waste b/c over the course of the fight, the dmg they deal will negate the effect of the weak hate redirection done by ta>ws done in the beginning. So after a few moments its as if the ta>ws didn't redirect any of the hate. Besides, using only sa will give a x/thf a critical hit. Separating sa/ta even for a x/thf results in a big dmg difference.

Sam/thf job combination is only desireable if there are no thieves in the pt lvl range. Dmg of sa/ta for a sam/thf does not come close to sam/war 's berzerk, double attack, and passive attack up traits. Isn't the point of inviting a sam to do as many sc as possible during a fight?

A sam/thf might be able to just utilize ta>ws with meditate, but for any other job with thf (and to some extent sam/thf), its a waste of tp b/c yo u want most of the dmg to come from from a skillchain + magic burst. Using a ws solo isn't exactly pt-friendly.

As for guillotine, I haven't seen a drk do a lot of dmg on IT mobs after raptors b/c not all the hits land, even with acc gear.

Back to the topic, I find elvaan blm annoying b/c they dont have enough mp. Haha :D :P

To say that a /THF TA-Weaponskill doesnt deal enough damage is the same as saying that a normal Weaponskill doesnt deal enough damage. This is silly reasoning.

Little Hume, I will pwnage you with my 900+ MP.

I was in a BLM, BLM, BLM, BLM, BRD, SAM PT last night. All level 74-75. The BLM with the most MP was Xtereem (Taru). Then Me (Elvaan), then the two humes (Aurorine and Pukerat).

We got 10,000 exp in 2-2.5 hours. Boyhanno, the samurai, sub THF for flee, so that he could run off on chain 5 really quick and bring us a mob for chain 6. Usually he didn't even engaged the mob. He was just our "Delivery Boy".

Well. Before even that, on the premise of hate control with Drg. (Which will tie into the Thf.)

Also, if I'm wrong on anything, feel free to correct me or offer your own opinion: as you can see, my jobs aren't exactly high levelled... (and I'm a scrub).

If Drg is so great at hate control (with Super Jump) then a Thf may do the same at those levels with Hide. SA/TA/Guillotine off a Thf, and the Thf can Hide. So hate-shedding isnt Drg-exclusive. And really, I'd have to argue that a Thf brings more to the table than a Drg with SA/TA/Dancing Edge and TH2. As opposed to the now-nerfed Pentathrust: alas and alack, Drg can't perform after 60. (Though I'll grant that their armor is sexy. I'd even initially planned on playing a Drg before the NA release on PC when I was reading into the game... and named myself after a Drg. -For those that would catch it, Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen- Naturally Fate likes especially to fuck with cases like mine.)

Thf SA/TA is critical because thats where their damage lies. It's like compounding interest. TA has a much lower multiplier for Thf than SA, but the fact remains that when you put the two together, you get a multiplicative effect -- not additive, so there's a tremendous disparity in damage using SA and TA separately and combined for one hit.

SA/TA still holds true for melee jobs that sub Thf, only the multiplier isn't anywhere close to the levels of Thf. The difference is so underwhelming that it's not worth the effort to set up, and you get about the same effect using them separately. It's much more efficient and party-friendly.

If you want sick, stack Last Resort with Souleater, then crank SA/TA and Guillotine. It's raw sex appeal in one fluid, wicked motion.

Oh. And I forgot to add.

The gorgeous thing about the new update and that combination is that after the Thf sheds hate by Hiding, he can then SA/TA/Dancing Edge behind the Pld (or whatever tank), and thereby transfer all the hate to the tank.

Fogel-

I'm a THF... and I feel its only fair to the other jobs to describe this whole "fix" to the hide thing.

Hide will fail if:

A) The mob detects scent.
B) The mob detects sound.

From what I've experienced, basically the only mobs that I can Hide from are Goblins... and... well... yeah. Goblins. I don't know of any other common EXP mob that only detects sight, as I don't have my handbook near me nor do I care. Hide is GREAT if you're hunting Gobs... hell, can make chain 5-6 very doable as you can pull right away and have the hate already on the PLD without needing a first voke, then SATA+WS onto the tank in mid fight to finish that SC with no problem. I think the Hide patch was put in for Ballista, where I understand people DO spin around to avoid a THF's Sneak Attack from landing... I haven't played Ballista yet, but I bet that especially as a THF, you probably will get into 2-3 fights every 5 min. You could end someone quickly, I imagine, if they were bound and you could invis, sneak attack, hit, hide, sneak attack, hit, dead enemy. Sounds good to me... can't really think where else this applies?

(wow this is an old post but whatever)

This is true. But why they are expected to replace a WHM is beyond me D:... cause we're not WHMs. It's a wierd "you love 'em or you hate 'em" thing. *shrug*

orz... no edit button.

Ehh I hate partying with umm...... PLD. They ALWAYS invite me as a "main healer" and soon realize SMN can't keep up as anything but backup. Support buffs are useless on them and they're so high maintenance...

Not to say PLDs are bad people :P

I don't really like BST at all because they SUX in parties. They are made to be SOLO. Not in parties. The whole point of the job is to SOLO.

Well fuck you too.

I hate seeing level 15-ish BST in parties. They are doing nothing but leeching xp. (unless they fixed the problem in the patch)

"Problem"?
