Well, don't blame Vick for being sacked 8 times thus far this season. Simple fact is, some teams just don't pass block very well. Especially when the lineman who calls the blocking scheme in regards to the blitz looks and coverages (Jamaal Jackson, Center) is out for the season. However, one nice stat if we're focusing on that would be the fact that there's 11 Quarterbacks that have been sacked 5 times or more so far after two weeks of football. Three of them have 100+ QB Ratings. Vick, Schaub, and Cutler. Of them, the Bears and Texans are 2-0 and the Eagles are 1-1. You could even make the case that if Vick played the whole game they could be 2-0 as well. If you've watched him play, he broke at least 4 tackles in both games to prevent sacks as well, and got the job done with his feet or moving the pocket. He's kept his eyes down field first and foremost; this alone shows how much his game has evolved since Atlanta.
You also can't put down his receivers like that Taku. Desean Jackson was a pro-bowler last year and put up 10 50+ yard touchdowns last season, tying an NFL record. Maclin is in his second year, and has 2 touchdowns in as many weeks. Avant is one of the best third down receivers you could ask for, a solid, big target possession receiver built for the quick seam routes of a west coast offense. Celek had a breakout year and thus far has been under used by Vick, but as a tight end he will come on as chemistry develops; especially when you need to dump the ball off because your line faulters. Lesean McCoy is a small, quick back who can take a screen pass and go the distance. Vick has a ton of weapons on offense at his disposal. Where the Eagles fail is short yardage situations. They're pounding back, Fullback Leonard Weaver (Averages 4.4 yards per carry in 2009), was their go to guy on short yardage. They have no other answers for short yardage plays (Reference: 4th & 1 against Packers, they did a shortgun QB play action, delayed QB run). Either way, the Eagles have weapons for Vick and Vick has the mobility to spread the line out. I mean, Kolb was sacked 3 times in 4 drives in Game 1. With this line, your pocket passed won't survive.
As for stats, Vick is 13th in the league in yards passing per game in 6 quarters. If you take his total yards, divide by 6 quarters, times by the 2 he missed, add back into the stats and Vick would be #5 in the league. He's averaging 306 passing yards per game if you average him to 8 quarters. Y'know, if you want to compare apples to apples. That's just passing yards. He's currently #4 in passer rating and has no interceptions. If you look at rushing yards too, Vick leads all QB's. He has 140 rushing yards in 6 quarters. Make it 8 quarters, he has 94 rushing yards per game average. That's an average of 400 total yards per game (Highest of all QB's), with no interceptions and one fumble that the eagles recovered. He's broken over 8 tackles that would have been for negative yardage, playing behind a makeshift line riddled with injury so it's not like he's got the blocking that Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Carson Palmer have. Any quarterback can destroy you with 5+ seconds to hang back and watch the play develop. When a quarterback can make something happen from a dead play, then you have a star.
All things considered, I'd say Reid made an overdue decision. The only thing I don't agree on is his commitment to Vick for the year. I think naming him the starter and giving him the pressure to perform made Vick better. Complacency could lower his game and switching back to Kolb now will destroy Reid's credibility as a leader.
Edit:
All stats received from NFL.com btw, aside from the averaging done with basic math >.> Y'know, so it's all credible information.
