Kanye West is a piece of shit.

im just gonna leave the GW thing alone, no hard feelings. i just disagree.

threads not about GW anyway. its about what a dick kanye is:P

and cort.. have you heard like any of kanyes songs compared to someone like taylor swift.... listen very closely my friend.... you'll see a difference .. trust me lol

there's a big difference between real music and what someone likes to call music. think about it ;)

Every band these days is edited the shit out of, no question about that. Not all music is though. Dennis Deyoung of Styx is like 60 or 70 or whatever now and can still hit the high notes that he does his CDs. I heard Katy Perry live (not by choice, I assure you) and i almost couldn't tell it was the same person from the radio.

There's more than an enhanced difference. a rap artist do not use his voice in the same way, and do not need a good voice to actually rap. It requires being able to rap - something not all artists can do well - as well as having the right style, texts, and above all, attitude. Its much more then simply singing.

And hell, a fuckload of artists sing worse than him. A lot of artists don't even singthemselves, they just dance and act, while someone else do the singing for them. Have you ever heard Fergie sing for real? she sucks.

Just because his music is edited (which the majority are nowadays), doesn't mean he's a bad artist by any means. Hell, his VMA stunt fits perfectly with the persona he's trying to portrait. That's one of the reasons I hated his letter of apologize - it was a complete opposite of his portrayed persona.

Oh trust me, I know "real" music.

You think Taylor Swift makes "real" music, but Kanye doesn't? That's laughably ridiculous, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't "real". His awards and critical acclaim prove to me he produces "real" music.

They're both in similar categories of music: Simple Pop-Music.
There's hardly any difference between the two.

In short, :Bullshit:

Being edited isn't bad though. Steven Wilson does magic when he produces his stuff.

HEY! WHY DON'T YOU COME DOWN TO THE STATION, WE'LL PUT "COME SAIL AWAY" UP AGAINST "ROCK AND ROLL ALL NITE" AND LET'S SEE HOW THEY MEASURE UP, HUH?

you definition of music is laughable.... music to me is and always will be... voice... instruments...

first off you missed the point... yes i don't like his music but that's not why i said it wasnt real.... dont twist words around bud. i said it wasnt real because he sounds like a FUCKING ROBOT in love lockdown....now lets think.. hmmmmm is that his real voice! is that what his real voice sounds like when he 'dings live. listen to it yourself!

when you start using computer effects to make your voice sound different like he does! theres no denying it... thats not music... you're not even really doing the work. you're being aided by a computer... and just because he wins awards still doesnt make it real. sure hes making 'music' and people like that, it's fine. if you can make a nice living like that go for it. not gonna change my opinion though.. not gonna change that hes still a douche-bag bully who goes on stage and acts like a pathetic fool to a 19yr old girl who happens to make real music.

im not denying hes a musician obviously he is. i just like to hope that there are still some sane people who have respect for real music. obviously cort doesnt still get it^^

I guess we have different definitions of bad then. I'd say it is bad when musician needs to have their voice completely edited to be able to pull of a hit, and its a sad fact that hardly any live show sounds even close to what a CD sounds like anymore.

Proof that you don't need shit to be a pop singer anymore. Gogo Congress!

Laughed too when I watched the Jay Leno appearance when HE was almost crying.

Spoiler:

Instrument

5. Music. A device for playing or producing music: a keyboard instrument.
6. A legal document, such as a deed, will, mortgage, or insurance policy.

tr.v., -ment·ed, -ment·ing, -ments. (-mĕnt')

1. To provide or equip with instruments.
2. Music. To compose or arrange for performance.
3. To address a legal document to.

You're just plain wrong, kid. 'Computers' have been used in just about every instance of modern music since the Beatles. Are the Beatles fake music? They must suck compared to Taylor Swift! Your argument is the one that's laughable, and stinks of ignorance.

P.S. You don't even know what kind of music I like, so you can hop down off that high horse, and take your baseless assumptions elsewhere.

I guess we have different definitions of bad then. I'd say it is bad when musician needs to have their voice completely edited to be able to pull of a hit, and its a sad fact that hardly any live show sounds even close to what a CD sounds like anymore.

edited != vocals

Kamelot tends to do a good job of sounding damned good live. It's probably because Khan's vocal chords have been dipped in gold by the gods themselves.

Edit: I wish you luck finding a band that sounds the exact same live as they do in the studio. Either their studio album sucks, they're playing a recording, or they have done some serious homework.

Or they went the Milli Vanilli route...

Metallica's St. Anger LP. :bb:

Holy shit Cort give it a rest. The world isn't out to blast your tastes in music, and it's unnecessary to call people names.

Flameboard is that that way ->

Just because it didn't in your case, who i also have no idea who you were talking about, doesn't change the point.

I also didn't say they had to sound exactly the same. I said it was pathetic if they can't even come close to what their album sounds like. I have 2/3 of my favorite bands that all sounds pretty damn close live and recorded, and my favorite band sounds even closer then them. You seem to be awful touchy in this thread for no reason so i'll say again what was said earlier, because it hit the nail on the head.

Go fly a kite.

I still think Lady GaGa should of won a lot more than she did. I mean all her live performances are pretty fucking awesome and she's good live.

I know. I'm not defending my tastes in music.

I'm not the only one being rude though.
Hell, look at the post right below yours.

Touchy? What?

I wasn't attempting to change the point, I was naming a band that's good live, cool story though.

OK, recording. Just because there are alternatives these days doesn't mean people are fucking rock stars because their producer has managed to capture several "moments" and edit them together, after having their music written for them by actual musicians.

Even worse is that lame as hell vocal effect that every shitbag "musician" uses these days. It sounds like crap, and the fad just needs to die already. Shitty musicians perpetuate it, and fans of shitty music egg it on.

Just like you could give Tiger Woods an old wooden golf club that is inferior technology by today's standards, he'd still whip your ass in a round, the same can be stated for musicianship. A good group of musicians can roll into a studio with analog tape and nail it in a single take. Fuck, that's what I always did. You can add some layering and shit later to texture or thicken, but nobody's cutting and pasting their freak occurrance "best ball" moments together.

Just like digital photography. You can spam shoot an interesting event, and come up with something good. You only held the shutter button down though. There's no fucking talent whatsoever. If you were tasked to take a film camera to an interesting event, or even better, a normally uninteresting scene, and make a well composed and interesting photograph of it, you might be able to...Eventually. But you'd waste a shitload of money on film and time trying because your talentless ass is too used to pushing a button and then weeding through the masses of crap photos to find a decent one.

A real photog/musician/golfer/whatever doesn't need any of that shit at all to succeed, and to get it right the first time. That's authentic, and real as it gets. Fuck the lot of the "talent" out there that simply cannot produce these results. They are all worthless. And yet, so many tout themselves as demi gods it would seem. GFY. Reality just called. You've got no skills. Talentless. Worthless. The best thing you've got going is your ability to fly off the handle, drunk, on camera to the orgasmic glee of huge losers everywhere. Good job.

Here's a hint for some of you. "Good" holds a prerequisite in that it requires actual talent. If there is no talent, it is NOT good. If the only talent to be found came from label-funded production dollars, you're not listening to a musician.

cort you do seem touchy. i wasnt trying to be rude to you personally but i dont think you really know what an instrumetn is...

that was a cute ittle explanation you tried to give but let's be real... kanye west .. sounds.. like.. a.. robot... in his songs... thats not using an instrument... that requires absolutley 0 talent. there's no possible way you can refute that. i could do the exact same thing... youd you say that i'm impressive musuican too? idont think so...

i'm tired of arguing with you because you only seem interested in trying to sound smart by using big words and making complex explanations when the question at hand is really pretty simple..

kanye west.... likes fish sticks ok? he's runner up in douche of the year award.. he gets drunk in public and takes a mic from a 19 year old girl when shes giving an acceptance speech. he plays the race card any chance he gets... and his 'music' (maybe enjoyed by some) but it is nothing compared to people who can actualy sing(taylor swift etc) and those who can playinstruments(rock bands country singers with guitr etc.)..

let it go dude your wrong... just admit it.. i'm going to assume you're in college btw... if you are let me know i'm curious if im right^^

Flameboard is that that way ->

A single act of pointing out idiocy doesn't warrant a flame thread. Also, the Flameboard is this way ^ and for FFXI related matters, you can't hide behind the "o noz u sayz bad thingz 2 me n no flame chnl!" clause when you're an idiot outside of the FFXI area. Welcome to the other part of the board.

This, less the 'after having their music written for them by actual musicians.'

Disturbed for instance. I personally love Disturbed, but have any of you heard them live? The lead singer struggles at best to pull off 1 show. You can tell by watching/seeing a couple performances that his voice is captured at different points and edited together. Simply because he can not pull off his bitchin vocals most of the time. The difference is they make a GREAT studio band and a mediocre live show. That's my opinion though.

Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, perhaps he gets some touch ups in studio to his vocals but 90% of the shows they do he sounds pretty dead on to his recordings. All due to his actual musical talents, his vocal talents. He does not require effects to warp his vocals into some tunnel sounding crazy chorus effects. They make a great show, and would still sound dead on with minor sound stage set-up. That's what makes great musicians. Oh and btw, bands switching up live, changing their songs a bit, that's normal, that's the freedom you get playing music, you can PLAY with it =) Never has to sound the same.

Kanye West, and EVERY other 'artist' that warps their vocals with chorus and multiple other (someone said earlier) robotic sounding effects is crap imo. Was it Little Wayne, idk, too many 'artists' these days are making shit tons of $$ off more studio effects and less talent. And rapping to me is not singing, it's rapping, totally different. And I will not deny that it takes talent to be a good rapper. But you are not a singer, and you are not a musician. You're a rapper. Skills to slap together some lyrics telling a story while making sure to rhyme now and then to keep the flow going.

People now-a-days need to pay more homage to the Rush's, Maidens and even Journeys out there. That my friends is music and real talent!

Personally I think those with more simple minds grab hold of a lot of these shitty new artists, not to sound mean and I'm not trying to demean anyone, this is just my outlook. The simpler the music, less intricate and less technical the simpler the minds are whom enjoy it.

As far as Kanyes outburst goes, I already said I would have loved to see someone trip that fucktard as he walked towards that stage. He deserves no less than to be made to look like the twat he is.
