It's a heck of a lot easier to give up 11 million gil that falls into your lap than to give up 11 million gil that you physically earned. I highly doubt your pegging someone who up and wastes 11 million gil on some vanity piece as a down-on-their-luck, repressed general Charlie and the Chocolate factory good 'ol well-meaning chum will carry much weight around here. He took 11 million gil that wasn't his and burnt it as soon as he logged on.

Isn't that exactly the way everyone's painting Lanien? The big bad Auction House monster gobbled up his gil and now he can't get it back.

And I hate it when I hear that the money 'wasn't his.' Lanien lost any and all claim to that gil the second he confirmed the purchase attempt. The game does make you go Enter, Up, Enter, Left, Enter (or X, Up, X, Left, X if you're on PS2) to make sure that yes, you really DO want to try to buy THIS ITEM for THIS PRICE for a very good reason. Lanien said he 'clearly saw PCC' but I put a lot of doubt on how clearly he saw anything at 4AM (I think he's admitted as much in earlier posts.)

Ok the point of the AH is to bid on items and to out bid other players while at the same time triing to get the item for about the same price that the seller put it up for. Why should he give you back your money because you were careless. That seems to be the problem with all of society in general now. Like someone is supposed to hold your hand and give you a pat on the back, no harm done, when you screw up. I say let it be a lesson to you to pay more attention to what you are doing in the future.

So I'm the dumb one because I believe in personal responsibility? People that go through life blaming others for their mistakes and thinking that they should get a "do over" just because they messed up are what is wrong on so many levels in life. Wow, this got bad fast.

First of all, if I was trying to smear Karahan's image, I would have been a lot more pissed in my original post. I know I fucked up, and I even said how it was my mistake. I repeat, all I was hoping for was if someone knows Karahan, if they could talk to him and try to reason with him because I haven't been able to. In no way when I contacted him did I get angry at him because it wasn't his fault. I said to him that he has probably realized that there is a large sum of money in his Inbox, and I said to him that although he is not obligated to return it, I would greatly appreciate it. I was hoping that he could show a little courtesy for an honest mistake. On my screen, it showed PCC. I can only prove that infact it did, because if anyone knows me from partying, they know that sometimes my connection will become unstable, and the R drops to 0 in which everything works fine in menus and the such, but the images of motion stops within gameplay and returns to its original positioning after the lag burst. So the menu of the Auction House to me appeared to be on the PCC, but to their servers, it was actually on the Holy Phial. In my menu when I hit the right arrow once, it moves from Holy Phial to PCC.

Again, the intent wasn't to screw up Karahan's image, which I have heard things about anyway from LS mates who I told the story to. The flame was infact towards not only Karahan for not returning the money (which he doesn't have to do legally, but I would hope morally) but also towards myself and the shitty SE servers.

And also, the only money I want is mine, not any of yours. Please don't start a fund lol Thank you for the consideration though.

I can see both sides but to be really honest I would give it back. I bid 50k on a stack of kabobs once and the guy gave it back with a smile, I can only pay it forwards, but thats just me. I would feel very dirty if I spent someone else's gil ;(

If the guy doesn't want to return it well it's his business I guess but it would be a nice thing to do, even if he only returned part of it.

As an aside, in WoW, you can't see the price history, or buyer. You can see the seller but after the item comes off the AH, that name is gone also. It is a very different system that takes getting used to but yes, if you fuck up there you are quite SoL. That game's currency has much less value in its system however so a large money loss like this is very very unlikely, and much easier to recover from.

I am sorry for your loss Lanien...but I am curious how you were able to come about having that kind of money. I remember you saying that you bought the Barone Correza(can't spell) from Kaine for about 8 million gil if I remember right.

You said you sold it for 4 times what it was worth. Did you sell it for 32 million...being that you bought it for 8 million? Or did you think it was only worth 2 million and sold it for 8 million?
