Karahan

Ouch. That would devastate me in-game. There are lots of ways that could have been avoided, but it still sucks.

How the heck some people can equip a PCC that is 100% not theirs is beyond me. It would disgust me every time I look at it if I did something like that. I felt like a dirtbag for weeks after someone overpaid me 109,000 gil and I kept it after they didn't contact me. To randomly get 11,000,000 gil in your inbox when you were selling something like holy phials...

Say what you want about the split between online ethics and real life, but you have to be some kind of lowlife to write that off and put that PCC on.

Basically what I wanted here was for anyone who knows Karahan well enough to try and get him to return the item. He can keep the extra 2 mil and I even offered to give him another item that is worth 2.5mil itself. He refused because he is selfish. This has had me on the verge of quitting because a 11mil gil deficit is hard to come back from.

Ok the point of the AH is to bid on items and to out bid other players while at the same time triing to get the item for about the same price that the seller put it up for. Why should he give you back your money because you were careless. That seems to be the problem with all of society in general now. Like someone is supposed to hold your hand and give you a pat on the back, no harm done, when you screw up. I say let it be a lesson to you to pay more attention to what you are doing in the future.

Every time I read one of your posts, I think "This guy cant possibly get any dumber". Then you proceed to post something else......

Don't quit...I can like give you 100k, I'd give you more if I had more >.<

And that guys a dirty prick, what a total cock

Sorry to hear this happened... ill try to get in touch with the guy and have him give the money back..doubt it will happen

there weere 8 peacocks on AH.. always 3-4 in bazaar in battalia.. should of been more patient >.>

WTF?!?! Yeah that's jewish dude!

I'm with Sabia on this one, i'm gonna shoot you some gil tomorrow to help you out a little. Sorry that happened to you man :?

And Shaunessy... what?? It was gonna be a hard lesson either way, but that's no reason for the guy to straight up steal the money

Some people just don't have a conscience.....

What a load of shit. I think it's completely unfair to turn Karahan(past actions notwithstanding, I have no idea about his 'character') into the new QCDN straw man when all he's guilty of is selling a Holy Phial on the AH.

And why would the GM's do anything? Did Karahan scam you by making you bid 11 million on the wrong item?

No, he's a asshole for telling Lanien straight up he wasn't giving the money back and to screw off.

Offering to pay him back at a later date is telling him to screw off? It may have been an empty gesture, but it's far from what you're saying.

The only difference between what happened here and buying the wrong item/quantity of item from a NPC is:

a) More gil involved
b) You can't call the NPC a dirty cock for taking the gil for the item you bought on accident.

Maybe if we only saw sale prices and not buyer -> seller there'd be a lot more internal asskicking and a lot less scapegoating.

Sorry too hear about this man. I think its really messed up and don't blame you for throwing this dude on the flameboard. The decent thing would have been too return your gil knowing common sense wise that it was a screw up.

gil

unless youre some fat rich kid that makes "daddy" or "mommy dearest" buy you 15 mil gil once a week or something, 11 million gil is a lot of money. sorry to hear about your loss lanien. something like that would make anyone consider quitting. i myself lost 300k once, never got over it; but 11 MILLION.....dear god...

if anyone starts a Lanien Auction House Memorial Fund, ill pitch in some gil. thank you.

I think it's a matter of common decency. I have quite a few friends who have accidently over bid on an item (usually to Japanese players) and they have ALL gotten the excess back. We shouldn't expect poeple to be polite and do the right thing, its just a low blow when they can be such assholes about it.

Yeah i'm a lil hungover and cranky ... so since no one else is gonna say it

Cubs quit bein a prick. We all hear what you're sayin and for the most part you're right, but that's no reason to keep the gil that was sent in an honest error.

Shit you act like you've never done something like that before, and in the same situation i guarantee you'd give the gil back. And what he said was he "might" give the gil back and 11mil is a pretty big "might".

Fact is, there is no excuse for gankin the man's money after he clearly noted he goofed and politely asked for it back. That's what i like to call Bullshit and i think he had every right to flame him. Personally i think he can eat an 11mil DICK

Okay, How do we know Lanien didn't just really really wanted a Holy Phial!? HMM!? HMM!? I THOUGHT SO!

P.S. I hope there's enough sarcasm in my post.

This from a guy who uses the term 'jewish' to describe Karahan?

I've lost gil before on the AH by being careless. Over half a million on my Amemet +1, a few hundred k here and there because I moved the cursor over too much or I didn't watch while I was bidding. In none of those cases have I even attempted to contact the seller to get it back - I considered it moron tax for me not paying attention.

If I were in Karahan's shoes, would I give the gil back? Honestly, probably not. It would really depend on how the person contacted me and asked for it back. If they're going to be nice about it (and most importantly, not try to guilt me into it) I'd consider giving back about half. If the /tell is something like:

"Hay I bid 2 much on ur item gimme back the rest" or some kind of veiled threat about trying to ruin my reputation based on a mistake they made in the first place, you can fucking bet your life they'd never see 1 gil of it back.

And really, that's all this FB post is trying to accomplish - Lanien's a really good guy and he's helped me out in the past, and I do honestly hope he can either get this gil back or work his way back to being as rich as he was. But especially now, all this is trying to do is smear Karahan's name until he's gotten enough nasty /tells from random people and/or shit on enough by this that he now has to 'save face' and return 11 million gil that he doesn't have anymore. And all of that is due to no fault of his own.

When I first read this, I thought of it from the perspective of any random 'average' player (not saying that Karahan is or isn't, just trying to make a point here.) The average player without much in the way of craft skills or ultra-successful farming technique. The average player who looks at a 1 million gil item and thinks it's totally out of their reach.

Then that 'average' player wakes up one morning with 11 million gil falling into their lap. Now me, personally, I'd take that gil and invest it. Put it into my crafts so it can come back 10-fold or more. But like a lot of normal people who get a spot of good fortune, they went out and blew it on luxury stuff. Sure, it went quickly, but for most of the 'average' server population, a PCC, Balmung and Cluster are pretty nice things to say you own.

Now, after all that shopping's done, the person responsible for your good fortune asks to hand it back. It's a moral dilemma. Do you basically put yourself back at square one and leave your newfound fortune behind to 'do the right thing?'

Aside: Would there have been a Good Times post praising Karahan for returning the gil? Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but honestly I doubt it.

I can see why someone would say yes, here's everything back. Maybe they believe in karma and think that this return of fortune will result in even more good things coming their way. Maybe they fear flameboard posts and their reputation being dragged through the mud. Maybe they're just the kind of person who drops gold coins into Salvation Army buckets during the Christmas season and they rescue kittens from trees and save a bunch of money on their car insurance by switching to Geico.

And I can also see why they'd say no. Maybe they believe this is carma swinging back their way for all the giving they've done in the past. As hard as it is for someone to mis-bid and lose 11 million, it's just as hard to have been given that gil and then have to give it all back. It may be five, even ten times more gil than they've ever seen in their lives. And they may WANT to give it back, but can't, because they've spent it. And maybe they do plan on giving it back - or maybe they're paying lip service to get someone off their back.

I think Karahan is going to have to give the gil back eventually, because there are enough people that blame him for being the random benefactor of someone's 4AM server hiccup/mistake. Regardless, anyone who wants to call out someone who is simply unable or unwilling to compensate for said hiccup/mistake is at least jumping to conclusions, and at worst needlessly demonizing.

It's a heck of a lot easier to give up 11 million gil that falls into your lap than to give up 11 million gil that you physically earned. I highly doubt your pegging someone who up and wastes 11 million gil on some vanity piece as a down-on-their-luck, repressed general Charlie and the Chocolate factory good 'ol well-meaning chum will carry much weight around here. He took 11 million gil that wasn't his and burnt it as soon as he logged on.
