I'd always heard that the Lottery is a tax on those who are bad at math.
Care to guess who doesn't have the cash to pay for private schools in urban areas where the public schools are bad?

im really tired of the double standard alot of blacks are using. Its ok for them to make fun and talk shit to all the other races, yet God forbid I ever call one a N99ger. Im Mexican and I grew up in a predominately middle to upper class neighboorhood. I grew up where all the mexicans lived and all the blacks (most who were lower class) lived in the only "ghetto" of the town. I grew up in constant conflict with them, and even to this day its hard for me to not generalize them all as thugs. I know they are not all like that, every race has their own group of people who the society disproves of. But when your 15 and the only black people you have ever interacted with are dumb as a rock, steal, cheat, and cause havok, its hard to get that thinking out of your head, expecially when all your friends and family feel the same way.
Im in the Navy now and have meet some really awesome black people, like my Chief. But at the same time, for every one awesome black guy, ive meet 2-3 N99gers still acting like they are civilians. Im not really sure what the point of my post was anymore, but im to lazy toearse it all now.
Any way you slice it, Yankee was a slur that got claimed by the American colonists and underwent a radical transformation. The fact that its etymological origins are rooted in slavery or racial slurs is a really interesting parallel. How would we react to a baseball team named the ******s?
Que pasa Negro! ^^
You'd think this would be acknowledged. Instead, what we have today are large numbers of people who can't even recognize when they are being treated fairly, people who are so used to a "fixed game" that they cry foul when they're not given preferential treatment. Having worked in a service industry for a number of years, I can say in complete honesty that every time I've been called a racist, it's been in response to treating someone with absolutely the same courtesy, respect, and dignity as the dozen customers that came in before them. Yes, I know. This is called "playing the race card," but the fact that it can be and frequently is played for sheer shock value indicates, to me at least, a profound lack of respect for the blood, sweat, and tears of past generations of all colors of the spectrum.
How I find the above paragraphs to be a relevant response to our discussion of "systematic discrimination" lies in the fact that once the system is skewed in one direction, it takes a lot to shift it back to an even keel.

What do you mean, though, when you say that once the system is skewed, it takes a lot to shift it back to an even keel? Is the system you're referencing here "systematic racism" or "affirmative action efforts?"
I haven't read more than the first few posts, so forgive me if the thread has derailed into something different already.
Me and my friends call each other ******s all the time. We use it like an insult, same as fag or fuck-face or what have you. None of my friends are black btw, no one I know irl anyway. I have a few black friends from the game, and I call them ******s too. I don't see what the big deal is, it's just a word, no worse than fuck or cunt.
******s use the word all the time, so to say that I can't use it because of the color of my skin...? Well that's more racist than the word itself.

I'm pretty sure this runs into the same KIND of response as claiming that you should have the right to yell fire in a crowded theatre. There are social circumstances that prevent it from being just a word. People take specific meanings from it, and you don't seem to be claiming to be ignorant of those meanings.
I'm not sure anyone's made the claim that select groups CAN'T use the word; but you will wind up being held responsible for the reactions to it, and those reactions can't be answered very easily by the claim "this is a word that is not more loaded than others." It is more loaded, and the cultural standards are different.
What I never got, even when I asked my english teacher while we were on the subject of racism is: Why is it that racists words for every culture/race/whatever are all so horrible except for white people. I mean we get the words 'wanker' and 'cracker' where as black people get ni99er, orientals get ch!nk and so on.
