Kind of a funny observation on my fellow BLMs

You have too much useless gear or you're not taking advantage of all of the storage options available to you. When people have full gear sets for multiple jobs and still have room without having the maximum amount of space possible, you're not being very efficient.

I craft, I farm, I keep all my exp gear for whm, sam, mnk(chi blast gear on mule since I don't do it often) and brd(10 instruments so far), along with holding about 10-15 pieces of gear that are just for my mannequins to look cool(relic weapons and drg relic) and are just wasting space; but I still have plenty of room. I've got 8 free slots right now, and it'll be 12 when I get my blessed mitts synthed and sell my current gloves.

I ain't even trying to say everyone needs gear swap and tons of sets. I mean that's ideal but fuck not everyone takes the game that seriously, some people rather do other things with their space. It's not really my place to judge them.

I'm just saying... if you only going to have 1 set, why the hell use the stuff that's meant to be put in for situations instead of the easy to afford, easier to attain standard gear which is better for all situations?

When I get the call to come to something as rng, I need to pull gear off of a mule, and I'm not going to grab everything. Earrings, for example, I'll toss on fenrir's and suppa. They aren't the best for rng, they aren't the best I have, but I'm not going to send over something mildly better when I have something to fill the slot.

Along the same page as Firestreak's complain about blm's, I have one about monks. I know you're thrilled that you got a melee cyclas, but seriously, the piece is completely worthless for anything but standing around looking cool or healing. It has nothing that you would possibly want while you're actually fighting something, but I'm seeing more and more monks wearing them. At least in the blm's case, their AF2 legs had some +int on them so they weren't totally useless. Right now I'm in besieged watching Decoma meleeing in almost full melee gear, and I've seen other monks doing it in besieged or in exp or in other areas; just stop it.

If you stupidly sold your scorpion harness, or tossed your osode or shura togi when you got your melee cyclas, put on your Temple Cyclas(AF body), that at least has 5 accuracy on it.

But it adds regen effect so it must be good.

Just listing the stuff off of the top of my head:
Blm:
8 X Staves
2 X hats
2 X Torques
4 X body pieces
2 X Belts
Pants
Boots
2 X earrings
4 X Rings
Tat
cape
=
28 total pieces.

Drk
2 x weps
2 x head
1 x body
2 x belts
2 x boots
2 x pants
1 x back
2 x neck
2 x hands
2 x ammo
2 x earring
5 x rings
=
25

Bst
2 x wep
1 x shield
2 x head
2 x body
2 x belt
3 x pants
2 x boots
2 x back
2 x neck
4 x ear
4 x finger
3 x ranged
=
29

so 82 pieces for 3 jobs. Add another 7 spaces for 3 different foods and silent/prism/echo/shihei. Another 5 for KS and BS. Throw in misc AF pieces, and crafting supplies and quest gunk....

Do you know how long it takes me to get ready for a staff synthing session? Considering that I have to completely clear my storage so I can use guild furniture and break tier2, plus have room for 25 beads and 25 lumber and crystals. Talk about a pain in the ass!

The other night I was xpn Bst. Started the night at 53/60. Full storage, full inventory. By the end of the night, I spent half the fights sorting inv and throwing away the less expensive stuff to clear treasure pool. Not cool. I'm throwing away money.

I do not actively xp blm. I don't do dynamus, gods or Hnms with it. I just blow up random shit or help with coffers or AF nms. So you can see why out of the 3, the blm shit stays muled.

As for mules. I have 3.
One is a secondary crafting mule. I keep him only half full so that I do large batch synths. Second is a selling mule. He stays EMPTY of gear. I use him to stock him FULL of stuff to sell on AH. Last is my eq/gardening mule. A lot of eq gets put here, however, I can't FILL him because gardening is a pain with him being as full as he is. Suddenly making room for 15 stacks of tea leaves, 5 earth cluster and 2 wind ores when you are full and on a time limit can make gardening interesting...

I'm not buying a 5th character, Im at my limit.

Prime example of AF gear sucking.. Bard

The hands add agility, which is a lost casue on Bard. The only good stats for AF on Bard are the hands and head.

Um, the legs are the best leg piece for their level, with the +3 wind skill, there's no piece that adds +chr or skill until then. Also, the hands add 4 chr along with the +5 singing skill. The body isn't bad if you don't have a Gaudy harness or if you want the -enmity or if you use lots of stringed instruments. The hat's only for the -enmity, but there's better gear for -enmity at that level. Gear that boosts skill is worth having, but the head isn't that good and the feet just flat-out suck.

Alanon, I've got

MNK:
1 weapon, 5 head pieces, 4 body, 4 gloves, 3 earrings, 1 neck piece, 3 rings, 3 ammo, 1 back, 1 belt, 3 legs, 5 boots
33 pieces.

WHM:
2 weapons, 2 head pieces, 2 neck, 2 earrings, 1 ammo, 2 body, 1 gloves, 2 rings, 1 back, 1 belt, 1 pants, 2 boots
19 pieces

BRD:
3 weapons(2 from whm) - 11 instruments, 2 head, 1 neck(also on whm), 2 earring, 3 body(1 from monk), 1 gloves, 4 rings(2 from whm), 1 back, 1 belt, 1 legs, 1 feet.
31 pieces(6 used on other jobs as well, so 25 unique)

SAM:
2 weapons, 3 ammo/ranged(not counting arrows, 2 from mnk), 1 head(mnk), 1 neck(mnk), 2 earrings, 2 body(1 mnk), 1 hands(mnk), 3 rings, 1 back(mnk), 1 belt, 1 legs, 1 feet(mnk)
19 pieces(8 used on monk, so 11 unique). I also have my SAM AF in storage, so that'd be another 5 unique pieces if I took it out.

so that's 103 unique pieces of gear for my 4 jobs that I play as.

Add in 3 pieces of sam relic(leveling to use), 2 drg, 1 drk, along with 4 relic weapons to keep my mannequins looking cool. There's also:
5 of the level 50 CoP JSE bodies(sam, whm, mnk, rdm, drk)
5 slots for BS/KS
7 slots for oils/powders/echos/foods
6 linkpearls
5 misc rings(return, empress, tavnazia, etc)
2 warp cudges
Capentry apron and gloves
Signal pearl
12 misc weapons I don't really use
about 8 pieces of level capped gear in storage
3 abjurations I'm waiting to uncurse
4 items for AF+1 I'm waiting on coins to use
3 quest items I'm too lazy to actually go turn in
8 misc keys
along with a few other pieces that aren't important to mention because you get the point; I'm at 218 slots used, and I have not maxed out my storage, while I also have 12 slots free right now.

You'll have to forgive me for not having any sympathy for people who "don't have enough space" when I have plenty and I'm not even maxing out my potential space. While I don't do mass crafting like you apparently do, I still have more than enough space to get what I need done. Also I can store some of this on one of my mules if I ever decided to do mass crafting.

This may be a notion some are unwilling to accept, but there are a few things I have done to attempt to intelligently conserve space.

I already leveled all potentially useful subjobs to 37+ over a year ago.
I only level 1 job at a time.
Leveling a craft is the same as leveling a job to me space wise.
I share as much gear as is efficient while effective.

(For example, rostrum pumps on BLM as well as WHM.)

I use my melee job's gear

You might say to me "Firestreak, you are lucky, your job's gear can overlap very easily.

Well, I've leveled 5 job. You can level any 5 jobs and it's impossible not to get overlap. There's no 6th job I can level without getting overlap with some of the first 5 - because there are only so many different pieces of gear you'll be using. For example what job might I level that won't have use for INT, MND, MP, STR, HP or Damage percentage job rings? Just BRD maybe? Even they'd have some use for MP. But then my BRD would want to use my Osode, my Melody+1 earrings, my rostrum pumps, my zenith legs.

Not many melee jobs that wouldn't want scorp harness or osode - flame or sniper ring, Diablos earring, cassie earring, taru rse2 str earring, taru RSE2 hand/feet. Many of my BLM pieces would be useful to a RDM, and some of my W pieces off PLD would be. Some of my WHM pieces as well. Only so many jobs you can level until you start overlapping, even if you're trying not to. I've got gear for jobs I don't even have a particular interest in leveling yet all because of overlap.

-- Then heck, leveling another job and getting the gear I'd specifically want for them would turn around and assist some of my already made jobs. If I level MNK and start collecting some Shura pieces, could be usedful on my Ninja for DDing in some situations. Enfeebling gear for RDM = Enfeebling gear for BLM. To an opportunist person the possibilities are staggering.

Yeah, I'm specifically leveling jobs that I find fun that will also overlap in gear. Partially for space reasons, also to just limit the amount of money I'd have to spend buying gear or the amount of time it would take to aquire said gear. When I get my samurai and my bard to a higher level, then I'll have more gear to overlap and will be able to save more space by selling the redundant gear; but my point was that it's not that hard to have free space.

Well... why is it that people go to great lengths to get gear that's worse than much more easily obtained gear, and then wear the worse gear 24/7?

Case and point.

BLM AF2 legs. Yeah I got em. Let us examine the stats.

Def 30: MP+13 INT+3 Enmity-2
Elemental magic affected by day.

And then there's Mahatma Slops:
Def:39 STR-6 DEX-6 VIT-6 AGI-6 INT+8 MND+8 CHR+8 Enmity-4

Now, except for this... "Elemental magic affected by day." stat, the Mahatma pants are clearly better. 8 int -4 enmity vs 3 int -2 enmity and 13 mp. It's no comparison.

Yes, on the right day of the week Sorceror's Tonban are better!

But what about when you're casting Thunder 4 on Earthday???

Why do BLM wear their AF2 heads to fight exp mobs? Are you afraid of resist???

Why do you people wear Dalmatica? Why do you guys nuke with Sorceror's Coat on??? Why AF2 hands when you aren't even skillchaining? It's a manaburn!!!

In short, why are all my fellow BLMs on crack? Is it more important to show off gear to make people jealous of you than it is to use the easier to get gear that actually is worth equipping in 95% of the situations you're in?

Sure swap in AF2 head for Kirin or some high resist mobs. Swap in AF2 legs for nuking on the right day with the right nuke. Swap in hands for MB. Swap in body for... uhhh (I guess the only time I use body is for things like Limbus or Dynamis where I run around a lot).

But if you're not going to bother swapping gear around, you're WAY better off with Zenith/Yigit/Genie hands, you're way better off with Mahatma pants, AF-freaking-1 hat and a weskit. That gear is to swap in for the right occasion, it's not for wearing all day and night just to show everyone you got it.
Because they buy gilz to look coolz n get leetz gears in one dayz?
But yea it's easy to do a good job along with stayin away from AH

I See Dead People!

Ok, forgive me for only reading a few pages in, but why did this get changed into arguements for gear swapping? lol. All Fire was saying is that you should be using errant and iggy gear for exping of you're not going to gear swap. As far as inventory, thats what mules are for. $1 more a month buys you an extra 80 spaces(think thats the number) for all your non-ex items. I myself have gotten bored with blm (mainly in exp parties, has become too simple, I like complex jobs ^^) and have considered dumping some of my gear for the new ex set from ToAU, but tbh, I dont think i can get rid of the weskit, it's just too good.

hahaha so true :) its such a waste.

It would be nice to have one set of gear for "everything" Buying mp plus gear, mnd gear, int gear, and then melee gear for solo adds up and takes too many inv slots.

Like I wish the whole rdm af was all mage based and better than my elf rse, then i could sell it and be done with it

I have that. I still have plenty of room =/

enfeebling, MB, dark, elemental, convert, MND, INT, solo, besieged for RDM. Doesn't take that much room =/ I also have gear for BLM, WHM and BLU, and random capped gear.

I wish SE would just make a super-elemental-obi... Those sea obis tend to crowd things up. I'd get the ones I'm missing just to have the all-in-one elemental obi.

The rest of my gear isn't a problem though. I carry everything around that I could possibly use on both my blm and my bst and I usually have at least 6 or 8 open slots for items. Those mog lockers are a godsend.

That and a single elemental staff conglomerate (in terms of magic damage/accuracy +10-15%, not staff written effects like stats). Once my COP static is finished and I have sea, I'm making those Obis top priority.
