Kingdom Hearts

I enjoyed VIII's story as well, but VI IV V are my top 3 FF's, in that order.

There are people that... liked... FF8's story? *twitch

OF COURSE THERE ARE!

Two nations at war. Mercenary school. Magic spells, summons, gunblades....flying acadamies....
hidden technology city, monsters raining from the sky, RAGNAROK, socreresses, time compression.....all fun stuff!

My favorites aspects of 8?

Diablos, Bahamut, The Ragnarok and the system where monsters level up with you.

what story?
Blah blah, do stuff, fight those guys, THINK Eda is evil but in the end Some Sorceress comes from nowhere and wants to stop time.
Destroy the world? i'd buy that. Stop time? WTF is that?

Only FF final boss that had less of a point was Nercon from IX, but even he had a reason if you paid attention to everything.

hell yeah man right on!
i dont get why people dont like 8, Me and my friends here loved it and it had the most replayability for me.
Most the people who dont like it is probly because they picked it up since it came after 7 and were like...OMG WTF?! WHERES SEPHIROTH!?
I love the game. Especially how theres that hidden back story you kinds gotta figure out on your own, but the clues are all there.
How Squall was Laguna's son, and that rinoa was the daughter of laguna's true love and tho laguna and (god i cant remember the singer he was in love withs name lol) his true love couldnt be together, their kids could. And Eyes on me just made that story so much more complete.
i really liked that cause most people were like...his son!? where did it say that!!
but if you look at it, everything started the year squall was born...Raine died in childbirth 16 years before (i believe it was 16 and squall was 16 in the game...right? or was it 19)
Plus the story had heart. always pulled at my heart strings!

I think that can be said about any RPG game if you personally dislike the story. :nono:

well if you didnt catch it. The reason time came in is because the entire game and story is based on time repeating itself over and over. everything that happens in the game is just part of a continuous cycle that never ends, and the boss was there to make it keep continuing. the point was to stop the boss so the time line could go forward.
Edea was possessed by the sorceress who was trying to continue the cycle, Then removed and possessed rinoa to carry out their bidding and free the sorceress of time.
It gets rather deeper than that but play it again to catch that detail!

i loved 8 for story, its the one ive completled the most. But i love 6 for both gameplay, characters and story.
and yeah, X-2 was my least fave of the series. I never even bothered to get the perfect video after beating it the first time >.>
you should patch your psp and play all the FF on an emulator XD, minus the PS ones of course

if SE was smart and want more money they'd remake atleast 6-9 on PSP AND DS

Why would they remake 6 for psp and DS when they're already rereleasing it for GBA in the next few months? :P And the closest we'll get to VII on psp is FFVII:AC which releases this month for UMD and DVD, and I highly doubt SE will remake FFVIII or IX for anything, no matter the money involved, they look at things strictly at profits, and VIII and IX didn't sell as well as VII, so we'll never see the FFVIII "compilation", or remake of FFIX :P

Two nations at war? /yawn

Mercenary school? Yeah, filled with pussies like Squall and Zell.

Magic Spells? Magic was f'ing useless in FF8 other than Aura and to a lesser extent Full-Life and Meltdown. Even Meltdown became worthless once you get Doomtrain.

Summons? Yeah, just like 7 of the other FF games... IMO FF7's summons had more Wow factor, with the exception of FF8's Alexander. <3

Gunblades? Would've been better if they made more sense. That and a good parried hit with your finger in the trigger hole would probably snap your finger right quick if you didn't keep a really strong grip.

Hidden Technology City... How the fuck does the largest. Most technologically advanced. Most militaristic city. On the PLANET. Stay hidden. And don't feed me the game's "zomg force field" bull, because they had to have some size and technology to put it up in the first damn place!

The monsters from the moon thing came outta nowhere and was so late in the game that it struck me as being a retarded plot device.. go figure.

Ragnarok. What makes Ragnarok "so cool!" compared to the airships in the other 8 FF games that have flyable airships? I fail to understand this, also. FF6, 7, and 9's ships fly the exact same way. I'd argue that the Highwind was cooler, with its convertible design and badass pilot (stfu, he wielded polearms, that's good enough for me).

Time Compression was an incredibly lame plot device brought up in the last, what, hour of gameplay...

And monsters level up with you - it's SO FUCKING EXPLOITABLE, OMFG. FF8 was so mind-bendingly easy because of this. FF games have never been hard, really (except III, IV hardtype, and V)... 8 was just retarded though.

Now, let's talk about some other things.

Draw/Junction. You'd have to be HIGH to think this system is good and balanced. Hey, instead of grinding by fighting monsters over and over, let's instead grind by fighting one monster for a half hour while drawing 100 of its new spell for all 3 characters. Once you've done this, the 100 stocked spell will boost a stat by a retarded amount. What this really means, is that without Junctioning spells, your stats suck, and with the same level monster system, they're permanently doomed to suck. With junctioning spells, you become horribly overpowered. On top of all this, if you don't junction at all, you're left with... Attack.

Squall. Why do people like this idiot? He sometimes has pretty interesting and deep thoughts on matters. Why, then, for 9/10 of the game, is he seemingly incapable of saying anything besides "Whatever"... he makes such an ass of himself throughout the entire game. I'd rather talk to a rock than Squall. At least the Rock wouldn't blow me off after a long stretch of silence.

Triple Triad. Admittedly, playing the game is fun, except for one thing. Random. What the FUCK was Square thinking when they implemented that? Seriously... what the FUCK.

Then we have things like the broken Limit system which encourages you to get to yellow HP and then spam the shit out of Triangle until you hear the Limit sound - and then you get Aura, the most ill-conceived spell of all time.

And, the single worst plot sequence in FF history, the "GFs erase our memories.. we all grew up together!" sequence in Trabia Garden. God, I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a rusty metal spork after sitting through that scene, even more so the second time I played through the game.

I enjoyed FFVIII. It is my favorite in the series, followed very very closely by VI. VIII is more than a lot of people fail to see, and I enjoy all the random theories out there about the final boss. My favorite is that Rinoa is the final boss, seeing as how the beast she uses in the fight is named Greiver, which comes from the ring that Squall wears. There are so many connections, but they aren't confirmed so many people don't pay attention to them. It's not just the gameplay and story that I like, but all that comes with it. And the Weapons (Omega and Ultima) were definitely harder in FFVIII than in any other games with them in it. You couldn't just KOTR them to death like you could in FFVII.

VI is great because I love Kefka, who is really the only boss who succeeded in his plans and blew up a planet lol

FF8 wasn't unplayably bad. It had its moments.

Ultima Weapon was a pansy in FF8 though... and Omega wasn't hard if you had any clue about how his pattern worked. Omega was harder when he was introduced in FFV... =C No trick to that one, he just straight up mauls you.

Shinryu or w/e the name was was a great optional boss in FFV as well :P

Oh yeah, Shinryu was brutal too if you didn't spend hours upon hours upon hours doing the pre-prep for the Cheese strategy. :) But Shinryu does have one... which is kinda a shame.

lol i think the remakes should die down, i have the originals...then i have the playstation remakes and re-releases...and the gameboy ones lol. They are just selling old money makers on new mediums with about 5 min of new to it just to make more profits off an old bag.
Hey. Dont get me wrong. Its working. Im buying!
but i wont ever own a psp sooo, Downloads here i come!

VI was the best hands down in my book, but seeing the rant on VIII i would have to semi agree with Tagrineth after thinking about it for a bit.

The Junction system admittingly was broken. And the Aura Spell made all the fights almost seemingly like they were no challenge. However, the parts I did like was with the characters alternate's Laguna and crew. I think what really got me with the game was the visual appeal of the landscapes and the AMV sequences tying into game-play. (VII also had this, but taking out the time between games, and technology, VIII was very well done visually.)

I do however have to argue... That Omega, when he was that Sphere thing in FFIX (I think it was Omega, but it 'was' an alternate boss) Was much harder.

Though I do agree with the villain thing, Kefka was a true villain. Not even Sepheroth Killed whole cities with poisoning the water supply. Sepheroth granted killed Cloud and Tifa's home town, kind of straight on. But Kefka was a mastermind, and carefully played each person to his own advantage to get what he wanted. He was an awesome villain. The Seph, XXsepherothxX, SephirothX, and all the other screen name manifestations of die hard fans of that character, sorry to say, he's just a puppet with a long sword. He will never hold a candle over Kefka. sorry ^^;

Edit::
also, Ruby Weapon from VII still irratates me to this day. I know how to beat him, he's just an annoying fight.

So does Omega, if you take the time to prep as well, least he did for me. I miss those kind of fights in past FF's, FFXII looks to have a great many of optional pain in the ass boss fights though, score!
Edit: Ean, that boss in IX was Ozma :P And yes, Kefka>All

heh, started with an "O" ^^; couldn't remember, been a few years since I touched that game.

but can't wait for XII, we'll see how it does ^^; I'm not really looking forward to the battle system though ; ; I miss my ATB /cry

I felt it needed a change, and I'm looking forward to it, it's still like ATB, cept no random encounters and you can run around, there's still the time gauge you gotta wait to fill up before abilities execute. It's like they fused FFXI battle system and ATB :P
