Kitteh adoption!

I don't think you are wrong in taking in the kitty.

My girlfriend had a similar thing happen to her cat. A neighbour a couple houses down did try to steal her cat. The difference being they took her cats collar off and would keep him in their house for days feeding him etc. She wasn't sure what to do about it. Though she didn't have proof they took his collar off, it wasn't something the cat himself use to pick at. Not to mention they knew Chino belonged to her and still fed him and would keep him in.

I told her to pay them a visit and in not such kind words tell them to back off and visit the pound or humane society if they wanted a cat. A lot of people shouldn't own animals. I detest 'young' adults or college aged kids that will take in/buy a cat and not bother getting it fixed and getting it's shots etc.

Neither one of my cats have collars, but neither one of them are outdoor cats.

Yeah, that is severe and well justified of a freak out. If I knew the cat belonged to someone it would change things completely. If I knew it had a home I'd confront the owner with some concern, and with further neglect would probably ask humane society to step in. I don't think knowing it belonged to someone I could have in good conscious taken her in. I'd have rather been removed from the situation entirely and let her have a home with someone not involved with the situation through pet adoption placement. There are about 4 non college residents on the block that I am on, and all 4 households said: always see the cat out, don't know where it's from and that they try to feed her when they can. So it wasn't like it had a home, it was just getting by.

Ember has a collar, but I leave it so she can slip it over her head if she needed or wanted too. She only wears it during the day or when people are around in the house. (like if we were having company, dress her up a little) I take it off of her before I go to sleep in case she wants to run around the house at night just to be safe. I think petco makes ID tags that work like a microchip, I was going to look into that for a temp fix because it's like $10.00 if I read it right. Vet vists, getting her fixed and shots and her temp. medication are all ready $$$. Have to ask them for an estimate on the microchipping, in case of a worse case scenario. (Since I will be moving and getting her re-adjusted to a new house again) Also because of the dog, can't have her going back to her old lifestyle (outdoors) and possible catching something and passing it to the dog and vise versa, dog takes heart guard and flea preventive meds monthly, and come summer kitty will probably also get the flea meds just to be safe.

"Cats may like to be outside, but *nobody* likes to be outside in shitty weather."

I didn't say they do, I said it might have one of those cat doors that they can enter and leave through at their own will, in which case it WAS outside by its own will.

And Misi, I don't think you're a bad person, I was simply saying that it might belong to someone. But you've obviously looked for an original owner, and if one don't show up, you're in every way entitled to give it a home.

Yea it was a shitty situation, and unfortunately my friend is very unconfrontational, more-so a pussy who wouldn't mutter a word in her own defense =(

I never thought of the risks surrounding a kitty getting stuck because of a collar, but it's good you mentioned it. Though I don't think I'll be putting one on either of these brats. They're lucky they haven't taken a flying leap off the balcony yet lol

Glad someone has some sense about them though. You did your due-diligence! If anyone were to show up at your door now, I'd say give them hell. It's been this long and you called around to the local hot spots for missing pets to no avail. They shouldn't own an animal.

The only long shot I would consider is if the cat got out before they were leaving on a trip or something. After scouring and doing what you could you'd just have to hope it would be okay. (Can't imagine someone canceling a very expensive trip etc etc), but they could still put out word to the local vets & humane societies.

You give that kitty the love it deserves =)

I kinda would be creeped out if I was her, honestly, that is an awkward conversation : Hi I think you are stealing my cat? I mean if they do that how crazy are they possibly? XD But anger would ultimately win over. lol

I don't really like collars, but it was pretty so she can wear it on occasion. Most cats don't like them anyway, but for the ID reasons it is nice. Oh god I hope when I move I don't get a balcony for her to jump off of. haha

she's spoiled rotten all ready. it just started snowing here, so i showed her the window and said : hey look who's not out in the snow this time! shes so cute. she also stole my compy chair. oh noes!

Awww cute pictures!

We tried a collar with our cat and it lasted maybe a day. It was a very soft but sturdy collar and she spent most of the time wearing it trying to scratch it off. It was a cheap collar so it really didn't matter to me if she didn't want it. lol

btw, did you go to the vet to get her checked up on diseases, parasites etc. yet?

Yeah they really don't like them that much. Some don't care. Only when shes playing and catches that she has it on is she like : wtf is this? lol

Yep. first thing I did before she was allowed to be around the dog. She's caught up to date and is on a temp. medication for a parasite from eating crap outside. Other then that, shes in good health.

I love it... she waved in the first picture lol that's awesome :)

Hehe she is funny like that. Then she tries to eat the camera.

Props to adopting the kitten Misi, it warms my heart to see people adopting stray or mistreated animals.

Long story short, last summer a cat showed on my doorstep in starvation and I live in the middle of nowhere. Most likely someone drove down the dirt road and ditched him (he had a better house temperament than my cats do...). After finding out that no shelters would take cats due to overpopulation, it took me an entire summer to finally find him a home.

It's great to see people like yourself adopt and take the right measures to ensure it's health and safety. It also helps that your cat is incredibly cute. lol

Thanks Propa, Haven't talked to you in forever! I hope you are doing well. Same to you, It sucks what people are capable of. Glad you found it a home. Ember had her operation a few days ago and is doing well so far. :)
