Knife - slashing or piercing?

I'm just curious what drg has to do with doing dmg
300%tp or not they still ******?

All daggers I've used sofar Kalendor has been piercing,
um, not that good answer perhaps, but really, I've used
alot of the daggers/knifes/pointythingys on the market.

Did you even read what was going on? Full Swing is a staff skill. An absolute horrid one unless you have 300%, regardless of job. 300% it absolutely devistates though, again, regardless of job. 5x Damage mod keke.

Sry Skaw, I just saw drg and /paniced.

So to sum up the answers:

knife are _maybe_ piercing

in any case, Shark bite will be

that's actually all I needed to know, since THF damage = WS, as long as they don't hit 0s for the rest, I don't give a shit.

(and yes there are better options than martial, but it's not a discussion of weapons, I took an example of something ending with "knife" is all, could've taken Thief knife but then Vang would've said something about camping it alone or MPK or somethin ;) ).

Not all of them.. Just Joyeuse and possibly Verdun (unverified).

Easily tested on Greater Bird type mobs.

btw

All Rapier style swords (bilbo, verdun, joyeuse, tulerary (sp), etc) are piercing

There are H2H that are piercing as well

That's why I wondered if knife and dagger for some reason were not the same type of damage. To me, a knife is for cutting, not piercing, so it would make sense it's slashing damage.

Incorrect, there is no piercing H2H weapon, and i'm fairly sure that bilbo and tutelary are slashing like most other swords. Joyeuse is the exception to the rule, not part of the rule.

Wish I could test this myself...

Then some MNK has it wrong, I read on somepage forum:

Quote from: Skoad
Not all Hand-to-Hand weapons are blunt. Cesti and Knuckles are blunt; Claws and Baghnakh are slashing; Katars and Patas are piercing. All the other weapons are different in the same way.

This is BS?

Side question, does anyone know a reliable source for this type of information (damage type of each weapon)?

Yes, it's BS. The only H2H weapon that isn't blunt is Vampiric Claws, which do Slashing damage.

No, unfortunately, there is no really "reliable" source, but most of the claims of weapons "breaking away" from their normal type are false - and are now provable thanks to 100% weapon type resistances in Limbus (and Jailer of Temperance).

As far as I'm aware, the only proven different-damage weapons currently -

Polearm - Bourdonasse - deals Blunt damage, normally Piercing

Hand-to-Hand - Vampiric Claws - deals Slashing damage, normally Blunt

Sword - Joyeuse - deals Piercing damage, normally Slashing

I'm almost 100% certain that all rapier-type swords do piercing though, it's not only joyeuse

Lend me a Verdun and I'll go test it for ya :P
Cuz until I know, it's not worth putting that money on one for the occasional limbus run where I would like 1 with my joyeuse ^^

Oooh, I got one...I think!

Bodkin arrows deal blunt damage???

That was actually a bug, they fixed it 2-3 patches after CoP and bodkins were introduced

XD

Suprisingly, rusty greatsword doesn't deal blunt damage. You'd thing the sides would chip off and it's be totally dull..

Then why do baghnaks/claws do the least damage to crabs? And hooks/patas do more?

Because their base damage is nearly double?

All rapiers are piercing, joyeuse is a rapier.

Bodkin arrows were made blunt, or rumored to be when first realeased. They deal piercing damage currently, either they always have or a patch changed it.

This all leads me to choose the common sense option...Try out your options, use what works the best, and leave all the theories behind.
