So I'm wondering which is best for Jin?
Koga hands at night (obviously) or O kotes?
Any thoughts?

I may be wrong, but normally I hear NIN using Koga/AF+1/Enkidu for Jin

I don't often see NIN using Kotes for TP either, I always see Dusk Gloves.

TP = Dusk
WS = AF+1

That's how I do it. Umm... I'm sure other options would perform probably just as well. I hadn't noticed much of a difference between the kotes and the af+1. I don't have AF2 so I can't give any input on that.

Whenever it is applicable you should be using the koga tekko.

The reason is rather simple, all the attack in the world isn't going to do you a bit of good if you can't surpass the enemys VIT. Only after you can pass this should you start completely focusing on attack gear.

As others have said, on daytime go with Dusk Gloves for TP and use kote or nin tekko +1 if you have them for WS.
During nighttime full time the Koga tekko for both TP and WS.

Make Macros for both day and night and if you have them put Koga Kyahan in your Nighttime WS macro too.

DEX is a secondary modifier while STR is a primary and secondary. The DEX does increase crits, but it's not a guaranteed increase in damage. You have other choices such as denali feet (3 STR, 5 acc) and Rutters (3 STR, 5 att) which will go directly into the primary mod. Kyahans are a decent choice; however, the boost from dexterity is not significant enough to warrant switching in my opinion. Byakko's on the other hand has vast amount of DEX and up until recently, there wasn't a ton of options for STR in that slot either, mostly just D legs.

Check the numbers yourself, using e.g.

You'll see that the ratio of attack/defense is what drives the calculation, not STR-VIT. This means that you get better Jin damage with b.kote or o.kote, and this is true whether you are berserked or not. AF+1 or Koga will at best match kote, and only against very high defense mobs where you will not be hitting more than 200 on a Jin.

did you just say stack str/vit? and that stacking attack/defense gets you higher jin's? i must be playing the wrong game lol..

what ive noticed is that i normally try for consistency, not pray for the uber spike damage every few mobs. i noticed that with okote, i get on average lower jin's with occasional super high one. with af+1 and koga, the average is consistently higher and also has the nice spike damage every few mobs.

No he is saying you need to compare YOUR STR to the MOBS VIT, and same with the attack, yours Vs Mob Def. Not STR Vs Def. or Attack Vs VIT.

The spike damage every few mobs would be crits, which will be improved with the added DEX on AF+1.

Edit: Thought i posted this earlier, i'd use AF+1 personally if i had it, but i don't so i stick with Okote.

ahhh thanks. normally on merit mobs def/vit is always low. not like you throw 12 nins at kirin to tp burn kirin. Stack str/dex where you can and if you can't stack attk.

Attack will trump dext unless the dex is an extreme amount such as on byakkos haidate.

so your saying use okote and sword belt +1?

as i said before i look for consistency not spike damage.

I never said that, there are better STR gear to wear in those slots. Warwolf belt and potent belt both trump sword belt, and as I have already stated koga tekko trump both p. kote and b. kote.

There's crit tiers for DEX, when you break one you will get a decent increase to crit rate, the # vary depending on what you're fighting, byakko's wont always be enough to put you into the next tier alone. Personally, i use Haub (working on +1) Rajas ring Warwolf Belt & Byakko Haidate, i'd need an additional 18 DEX i think to break into the next tier with my natural base on NIN, so Okote are a good option, however my STR is somewhat lacking with this set so i'm still aiming for the AF+1 gloves, i will possibly experiment with a Potent belt instead of Warwolf once i have them to see if the additional accuracy benefits me more. (I struggle with acc. sometimes because i have combat merits in place for other jobs so can't merit Katana)

I keep Warwolf on for ws because my acc isn't lacking at all, I use haub+1 rajas toreadors shura head fire bomblet sushi+1 byakkos haidate for my acc on ws and I have 8 katana merits

Accuracy isn't a problem, and my jin damage is consistently higher than most peoples.

I wasn't trying to fault your gear Blaze just giving my opinion on the question Eiteen asked, i think i use a pretty similar set to what you have, but with less HQ gear lol (Snipers, not Tor for example), i've got to ask though why do you use sushi with that? obviously you've tried meat but i'm interested to see any parse results you might have of meat vs sushi with your set, it seems like you would you'd see even better results with meat, again, just my opinion.

I know you weren't I was just showing my hear and my reasoning for it. As for meat parses I've posted them on here before, and I actually beat a mandau on one of those parses. Search my posts for them or go to the jda website in my sig if you would like to are those parses.

I use sushi because I still find higher and more consistent jins with it over meat, sure there are some higher spike damage but they don't measure up with consistent damage. This is with mamools tho, in all honesty I haven't tried meat on birds because I never get mad with my ninja there, and if you have to sing mad over min then you are slowing your party and your xp down.

It really has nothing to do with spike damage, for which crits and therefore DEX would be the key factor. For a typical ninja, who is probably at around 400 attack, 100 str and dex in tp gear, a +22 attack will substantially outperform +6 STR against any mob from merits on up. I'm not asking you to take my word for it, the ws damage formula is completely known, so just go run the numbers with your own setup, at the link I provided.
