I could not be happier reading the sceduled updates! My confidence in SE is not unfounded!!

There were two specific words that I did NOT see on that list that still trouble me.

Auction.

House.

Everything else looks good, assuming that the vague wordings mean what they should mean.

No AH? Ouchie. :/
They look like cool improvements, but they're coming in a little too late imo :x

All this shit should have been ready at launch. So props to SE for delivering what they were supposed to in September, I guess.

I won't be rushing to reactivate until I see the result of the various, vaguely worded "adjustments" and "improvements".

I was a little put off by that as well. However, I do find all the planned updates rather encouraging. Maybe I'll try and log on more often now ...

Question though, how does the adding of a search function for the wards not more or less make them an "auction house"? Presumably, we'll be able to search for a particular item at a particular price point; said item will then be pointed out to us. As for selling items, you post them on your retainer just like you would post an auction. Is this not the exact same function a Auction House would provide us?

Not really. For one, you still have to position your retainer in the appropriate ward to avoid the higher tax penalty, as opposed to having one fixed tax rate across the board. Even with additional retainers you'll have the extra task of organising them or eating the loss of gil.

Unless they get rid of the designated wards and return to just having multiple rooms. In which case I would wonder why we need several rooms full of empty bodies when an AH would be more server friendly.

If you are bitching about the tax it really isn't that bad imo. A 75k item costed me 3 or 4k to post... which is less than the AH in Jeuno. Or at least used to be while I was playing.

I think that the increase of the search function and the map additions are huge steps... hopefully they aren't just improvements... but actual "things that they put in, that should have been in"

I really hope the accuracy issues and the hate issues are addressed more so than the AH... Personally I am making a TON of gil off of people without that search function.

They see what I am selling and are too lazy to look for others so they buy mine instead.

I'm not bitching about anything. I'm merely saying that the system is desperately trying to be original at the expense of practicality. The wards were introduced to help people find shit. Now if this search function makes that easier, why have wards? So you have a glorified AH system which involves walking back and forth from NPCs that have the stuff you want? Or teleporting between wards (assuming the search function lets you search ALL of them at once)? Or being punished monetarily, no matter how meagre, because you sell more than one class of item... or because all the popular, more appropriate wards are full of people selling marmot meat?

Solution: One ward, a handful of auction NPCs. You can keep your pretty retainer to hold your crap/iron your shorts etc.

I'm saying I have no problem with different wards because it helps me make extra gil instead of having to lower my prices significantly because people want to just lose gil and make gear at a loss of profit.

Right now I am making anywhere from 300-500k a night with only a few crafts above 10. I am in no way complaining at the laziness of people heh.

Multiple retainers would be nice, not going to lie there. I also think that things need to be fixed, like the update coming up. BUT I don't think that they need one centralized ward, that might be fixed with Ishgard(sp) opening up.

I for one liked being able to see what else was up for sale. If I go into the "rings" category, I'd see all the rings available. If I search for a specific ring, I'd find only that ring. This comes into play for somebody who hasn't memorized the name and stats for every single piece of equipment. I found myself pleasantly surprised stumbling across an item on the AH many times in FFXI.

Until we see how its implemented, can't say it is better or worse than an Auction House... Just think of it this way, your retainer is your XI Moogle, whom can put stuff up for sale without leaving that one area. I assume you can search by categories and see whats for sale, etc.

I think everyone will be happy with the changes when implemented...

I won't argue there. Everyone has a lot of gil though. I hovered at 2M for the longest time. Just don't forget that it works both ways. You're ripping other players off and they're most likely ripping you off without your notice.

On-topic: What's more troubling to me is the repair system. I hope that's changed drastically or scrapped entirely.

Why the fuck wasn't the AH even on the first 2011 update? smh, looks like I'll be not playing for even longer that I had hoped.

At a guess, I'd say that there's someone in the dev team, theoretically the guy in charge of the economic systems, who masturbates furiously to the thought of "immersion", and thinks that a player-driven bazaar system can be made into a viable replacement for an AH.

This man should be taken out behind the studio and fed to rabid marmots.

A search function.
Just add a search function to the market and I'd be cool with it.
"I want this item." "This, that and those NPCs in these wards have it for sale."
They wouldn't even have to tell you the price, just make it fucking easier to find the item I want.

Lukas I agree 100% there.. I SINCERELY hope that they modify or remove the repair system... I lose roughly 50-75 durability PER HIT on a monster...

I hope that if they have no intention of adding an AH, they can at least pin-point the retainer in whatever ward, or allow you to buy the item directly from a search list. Even if they told you the name of the NPC selling the item you want, it's still going to be a pain in the neck to find the sucker if he happens to be in the first or second ward.

Market Wards with a search function = Auction House. Having different wards split up for different people gives it a little more personality to me.
