This is a blog post from the guy who ran the hacking site that began the SE bans, the site i was/am a big member of. i edited the site address out of the post, not to spark a war but i thought it was an interesting read.
this is all very true on how many people signed up, i remember when we deleted alot of inactive non posting members, we deleted over a thousand and the next day twice that signed up. While this isnt originally where i got my stuff, it eventually became the primary source for me and many others,
it even created some coders, and this guy was and is still our leader. The sites have changed to other things now, but it was different to see how he felt about it since i have never seen him talk about why we changed direction.
HAXXOR said:Well, this is officially my first entry into my blog. I’m completely new to this and this is my first time even thinking of writing my own blog.
My name is HaxXxoR. I own a few websites you’ve probably never heard of and spend a lot of time thinking of what to do do these websites to drive traffic to them. Well, I’ve decided to stop. The websites take up too much of my time and I’ve pretty much lost my creative streak.
When I first decided to start :Site edited out: I was really big into Final Fantasy Online and wanted to get an edge on the competition and open up the world of MMO Hacking to a greater audience. Final Fantasy was (and still is) full of Real Money Traders (RMT) that monopolize valuable aspects of the game. This makes it extremely hard for normal players to advance, so we decided to introduce the normal players to the tools of the RMT.
Unfortunately, I think myself and my colleagues may have killed the game. We had over 2,000 members register the first month the website was up. When we decided to delete non-posting members (leechers), we had another 1,000 register almost immediately. That looks like only 3,000 members had access to the tools we were providing… and you may say, “How would 3,000 members hurt a community that houses hundreds of thousands of players?” but what you have to consider is that each of those members possibly passed that program on to another who then passed it on to another and so on. Before long you couldn’t do anything. Everyone was hacking the game. There was finally a level playing field…. of sorts.
Square-Enix (SE) decided it was time to take action. They created a special task force (which I don’t think has done anything) and starting banning accounts. Unfortunately, SE was banning legitimate players as well as the hackers. The one thing that SE never did, that I believe would save the game, is ban the RMT.
I finally got fed up with SE, the RMT, and just the game in general and quit. I quit :Site removed:, I quit Final Fantasy Online, and I quit providing hacking tools.
So… here I am. Time to try my hand at writing.
That’s all for now, but there will be more.
