The game is not dead. Far from it, in fact. There may still be RMT, hell, there will always be some amount of RMT. However, it's truly laughable to assume that SEI has done nothing about it. They brought you a special task force, to massively ban accounts that do not stick to fair play, or compromise the integrity of a video game. They want to protect their business like any other company out there offering services to any kind of customer. Keeping it as legit as possible not only keeps the current player base active, but functioning. Cheats will always be around, that's a fact no one can avoid. Where new protection is set up, a new way to tear it down surfaces. It's the way it works.
This "Haxxor" guy, who "admits" to killing the game, did nothing more than set a ball in motion faster than originally intended. If he hadn't "made" some cheats for the game, someone else would have. People would have still used them without initial fear of repercussion. They aren't necessary to play, so most don't, I imagine. Look at the dwindling number of offenses each month (most notably those that enhance character movement or claim stuff). If that doesn't tell you something is being done, I dunno what else does. The fact that RMT are turning to mass fishing is a bit annoying, but that will be handled in time too. Honestly, watching the market right now, it's not the RMT fucking the fishing economy (to any fisher out there screaming WTF?!!? over stupid undercuts from day to day), it's the idiots that catch a few stacks of fish and want them to sell NOWNOWNOW. That's always going to happen too though, so nothing to really complain about there.
I've gone on long enough, carry on.
