If it was out of circulation IGE would be out of business. They want to move their currency as fast as they can into player's pockets, NOT hold onto it.

You're missing my point here. The money IGE *currently* have is *temporarily* out of circulation. IGE is not out of business because gilbuyers are bringing the money into the market.

You are looking at IGE like a bank. A bank wants to keep the currency it has and add more to itself. That is simply not the case with IGE or any other e-currency seller. IGE is not a bank, think of it like a retail store. The gill is a product. They manufacture it with fishbots and sell it. Every gill sitting in their vault is unsold product, they MUST keep selling or go out of business.

Same thing, read above.

This logic is flawed. If a person spends real money on gill don't you think they would value that gill just as much if not more than a person who farmed it?

Your logic is flawed. They don't value gil as much as a person who farmed it. Why?
40$ = 1 million
In RL: 40$ = 5 hours of work max.
In FFXI: 1 million = 20 hours of work (take 50k/hour as average).

People with obscene amounts of gill who value time over gill tend to bid whatever the said item is priced at even if it is above what it usually sells at. Since they have plenty of gill.

I know gilbuyers are not the only ones who bid at whatever the prices are. But then again Claxton never said gilbuyers were the only ones

I can't believe some of you guys honestly think that every single price raise, every time you can't get something for listed price for the last year, is the fault of a gillbuyer/seller.

We don't think gilbuyers are the cause of all problems. You assumed that. There are other factors which cause inflation. But we're discussing about gilbuyers, are we not?

It doesn't matter what age, sex, profession the gilbuyers have. Just because you work hard in RL doesn't mean your act of cheating is justified.

PS. @Sethala: gimped =/= moron. There are just as many gimped morons as gilbuying morons.

You're missing my point here. The money IGE *currently* have is *temporarily* out of circulation. IGE is not out of business because gilbuyers are bringing the money into the market.

The gill currently in my inventory is also 'out of circulation' by that logic. (all 3k of it!) I fail to see why it matters or what the distinction is. I am no expert on economics though.

They don't value gil as much as a person who farmed it. Why?

Actually $30 = 2million. I suppose this is a good point. I can play the game for fun leveling up and crafting (by cheating), or put the effort in, make the game a chore and earn everything. However that million did not come out thin air. SOMEONE farmed it. Its cheating because *I* didnt farm it. But SOMEONE did. Kind of how hiring a maid to clean your house is cheating because you didn't clean it you paid someone else to.

The fishbots generate a lot of gill from no where (NPC's) and that money takes time to leave the world (via buying from NPC's/AH tax) Of course this means anytime someone sells to an NPC they are causing some small inflation, not just the gillsellers. This also means any gillseller who is not a fishbot (those that camp NM's) are NOT causing inflation. These are the ones most people bitch about however. Because the fishbots are 24-7-365 they can introduce much more money into the system than a normal player could over a shorter amount of time. That is the problem with the gillselling fishbots and it is a serious one.

It doesn't matter what age, sex, profession the gilbuyers have. Just because you work hard in RL doesn't mean your act of cheating is justified.

I agree. I am only saying I do not have a personal vendetta against the gill sellers or buyers. I think that's what Seth was saying as well.

lets imagine there are 4 types of players:

1. skill+earned
2. skill+bought
3. skilless+earned
4. skilless+ bought

I would rather play with 1 and 2. You would rather play with 1 and 3. It is a simple case of personal preference. Don't condemn me for preferring smart people who cheat to idiots who farm. (especially since the 'earned' are generally *NOT ALWAYS* less well equipped than they would be if they had more gill on hand.) Of course we all prefer 1 to the others, but 1 is fairly rare isnt it? In fact there is no way to tell 1 and 2 apart. You've probably partied with several 2's you thought were 1's none the wiser and boasting in LS chat how great your PT is, or bitched to them about how shitty that 3 or 4 was.

I really debated posting this or not. I see that Seth is beginning to come under fire for being a 'supporter' of gillselling. (Burn the witch!) However I like debate and will continue for now. I do not support gill-selling and am not a buyer or seller, but I also do not think it is any more cheating or evil than the guy who smokes weed next door, which I have no intention of reporting to the cops even though it is illegal.

I did discuss about this long long time ago while doing my Macro-Economics.
As you could see, the value of gil decreases due to the oversupply or gil due to RMT. Ppl (those who buy gil) cherish gil less.

Inflation could be caused due to Supply and Demand. Judging by camping HNM, let's assume supplying item doesn't change (positive line in the graph) or maybe even better, constant rate that cuts at point 3 at the X axis (X- quantity; Y- price).

Please bear with me and imagine the graph. OK... RMT in economics term an investment? so the purchasing power of that character increases (wealth increases).... this causes the demand curves to shift to the right (a downward slopping (neg. slope) moves to the right). At where the supply & demand curve intercepts.. that is the Price*; hence when a demand curve shifts to the right... Due to the downward slope (negative slope), it will intercept at a higher point on the supply curve and therefore the price increases.

OK; let's reflect on the gil sellers. Gil sellers = Gil farmers. These farmers will only increase supply. hence supply Curve will shift right... Let's assume Demand doesn't change. By increasing supply price decreases as the point at where supply and demand intercepts are now lower.

So regarding about inflation, we should HIGHER blame those gil buyers. I am not saying gil sellers are the good guys.. all the MPK-ing shit are stricting forbidden. However they are not the cause of inflation
