let the biddings begin

so they're gonna be careful in producing the right numbers to not screw themselves too much out of money. Let's say that they made 10,000,000 units and sent em out, but only 2,500,000 buy and no one after that for awhile, well they've royally fucked themselves there with the excess of systems which probably won't sell for awhile. It's not good for their business.

This is where you are wrong Ele. Going with how many sales Sony has had of the PS2, if they created 10,000,000 they would all sell. The system will be out for 5 years minimum. 10,000,000 will not be enough to cover that. Sony fucked up. End of story. They were not trying to save money. The system would not be what it is today if they were trying to save money.

1.) Shortage of the Blue LEDs
2.) Cell Processors often have less than 7 cells working (the Sony minimum)

Combined: PS3 Shortage Yay

I never meant it as a fact they were doing that, I was just throwing out other alternatives as it could have been such things. Even a company saying they have some "bugs to work out" or such could be a lie to give reason to do things for a marketing reason (as little sense that might seem). I was just trying to get others more to look at things from more than just their one narrowminded point. I don't doubt sony screwed up with production, but I don't put it passed that they could have a marketing strategy to it like with the PS2. Even if they go on Sales of PS2 that's not really enough either to be SURE they would sell all the systems. As time goes by they'll find ways to make the PS3 at a cheaper production cost which would save them money in the long run. Making so many for the most expensive cost at the start seems foolish. Anyways, since I am not a member of Sony and don't know the inside info I just take a look at other alternatives/reasons/etcetera (mostly to amuse myself). If I knew the exact reasons from inside info I prolly still would prolly not do so as much.

Frankly speaking, i believed their marketing strategy was advertising and reducing price which in fact actually causes losses.

There's also going to be a shitload of Wii's around, so it'll will be much less likely to happen. The only reason PS3 is going for so much is because of the piss poor numbers that are being launched with.

Wow, it almost seems like the makers..... did it on purpose... hmmm. lol. Seriously though, this is just like the whole Tickle-me Elmo craze a few years ago ( I think they hit a high of like 1k). I find it funny tbh. Give it a few months when the company releases 100x as many systems, the price will be down to like $250.

You misunderstood what I said. The makers aren't the ones who are selling the PS3 for thousands of dollars on ebay, it's the people buying them. They're buying for $600 from the store and then selling them for 3-5x the price.
