I wondered when/if you'd be back.

Assuming that this is actually true, and you do indeed have full staff support, then it would be a trivial matter for the staff in question to change the posting rules you yourself quoted at the beginning of this thread. They haven't, and as such, off-topic posting is still prohibited in the Flameboard and General Discussion.
Mostly an assumption on my part seeing as how i wasen't immediately modded into last week. Fortunately the original thread that sparked this BS for many people falls entirely within the rules of the FB as no explicit game is mentioned in those rules only implied. Furthermore the OP of the cross-community flame states very clearly that it's a noticable trend in all MMOs and i was looking for comparable stories people had to related. I based my post on my most recent lack of conquest in WoW because it brought all those old feelings back.
I even went so far as to say i haden't experienced half the level of problems with the subject material on FFXI as WoW, paying the game and it's community a compliment. But no one bothered with that.
Sadly, the majority of the mods have proven to be... less than impartial, less than consistent, and entirely too prone to do what they want rather than what they're supposed to do. As you pointed out in the OP, consistency in particular is severely lacking.
When you take it all together, it's not overly surprising that a lot of people treat the mods poorly.
I'm not saying it's right, or a good way to go about getting results, just that it's not surprising.
Completely agreed. Now try not to laugh but in all honesty, IMO, it's a really stupid way to go about things. Especially if you happen to give a shit enough to rattle someone's cage about something from thread to thread, post to post. A well thought out PM handles alot in the way of ego-flexing over crap around here whereas the rules are concerned.
People responding to a flameboard thread is hardly news. You could post just about anything here and it'll grow to 10 pages if it's even remotely interesting, and the mud being slung in this topic would pull people in regardless of what it was about.
What i find noteworthy is that my shitty little thread on a tirade about .. whatever topic always wins out over mod/admin threads geared towards brainstorming solutions to whatever problems plague QCDN. It's always the same handful of people who generally have something to contribute. Meanwhile whenever some shit goes down the in thing to do for those who could not be bothered to contribute or exercise the open door policy with mods and PMs is hassle the mods and admin until your crying and whinning either slips in to the void of forgotten posts or the issue arisses again.
As for my point, notice what you said a bit further down in your post. If it were a constructive post, properly located, you wouldn't have the audience you desire.
I wasen't out to be constructive. I do that on my own time. I bitch and whine and moan on yours.
The irony is that what you're looking to accomplish doesn't require an audience, it requires a change in the rules and active enforcement of them once those changes are made. You could have posted a simple set of suggestions, gotten the mods involved in a public forum, hammered out a new set of rules by group consensus and then had one of the mods post a sticky topic detailing the new rules for everyone to see, read, and understand, and then promptly start harassing those people who choose not to.
Again i could have, if that ever worked. Seriously, you've been here as long as i have give or take, you tell me that happens at all ... ever.
It may not always be the best audience. It may not always be the audience i was looking for. But there's always been an audience. My only threads that go absolutely nowhere are things that take my fancy which fall in to the lounge or reality sinks in but are lost to the rest of the board, i can live with those swings and misses.
Countless numbers are difficult on board with a few hundred truly active posters is a touch of hyperbole I think, but aside from that, you apparently missed my point.
No i got it, i just simply went somewhere else based on what you said.
You want the rules changed, arrange to change the rules. Don't ask for an interpretation of rules that are slightly vague in isolation (in-game occurences) though completely clear in context (in-game occurences in FFXI, on this server).
I don't want the rules changed, perse. I want them read and comprehended by people who feel the need to heckle me endlessly when they have no comprehension of the language of the rules. Furthermore i want at least some validity assigned to the fact that i went through the proper channels to end up not only where i was but where i knew i would be based on the post.
I agree that having multiple flameboards would be a trifle silly. But we have to address the issue that if we allow WoW flames, for example, we then have to allow flames for other games that any significant fraction of the server plays.
What's so wrong with that? If there's a sizable portion of the community that takes interest in something and feels the need to opine on it, why not? That is, afterall, how we got the WoW, Wii, and other rpg boards.
What i mean to say is that, at least in the case of the FB, if we have a board for it (WoW, other RPGS, even the wii) and you feel the need to go on a tirade and possibly piss people off where better to post it?
When presented with this question the response i recieved from the highest mod on the totem pole in the eyes of most of us was 'yea, that's FB material all right' to paraphrase.
The idea of expanding the focus of the board has both merits and pitfalls. The upside is potentially an expansion of the community aspect of the board, building further relationships between the people that choose to post here. The downside is that too diffuse a focus leads to a poor "signal-to-noise" ratio. Yes, we can allow posting on any game in area x, but then it can be challenging to find the posts you actually want to read. If we allow posting in area x, why not area y and z?
I'm not out to bring people who are completely alien to the server/game in to QCDN. That would indeed be and insane postulation. However i believe if you've had time in XI and on quetz no matter where you wind up the community still sees you as a active member if that is indeed what you are around here. Which i have been barring my couple month temper tantrum about the QCNN thing, which is another matter and topic entirely but fortunately for us also a compeltely resolved issue.
A precisely worded set of rules, agreed upon by more than just a few people in a position of limited power, debated in a public forum, and ultimately set into place with provisions for changing them at a later date would be more useful than trying to ram changes down the collective throat of the group of people to whom those rules will apply.
Oddly enough i sent almost this exact same quote to Sculli after what most of refer to as the 'care-bear act of QCDN.' It was ill-concieved and implimented horribly after the illusion of an open debate was presented only to placate the masses in to what was ultimately some shit that was going down regardless of the community's opinions of it.
See you took everything like it was supposed to be taken in a roundabout kinda way. I applaud that, not that i expected different from you. I agree wholeheartedly but again the problem is the history of QCDN whereas your suggestion comes in. Topics of that nature collect dust and tumbleweeds save for a handful of people who you can count on to add constructively to the conversation.
It's only cool to talk about rules when there's a personal involvement or someone pisses you off and at that point the preffered venue always seems to be a public one with as much immaturity as can be mustered. This, in my humble opinion, is ass backwards of how a 'community' acts.
