The item is cool. But its the comments I want you to draw your attention too. Notice that people honestly believe that SE will raise the level cap.

Its just not gonna happen! Especially because of merits.

You pump up to 75, full merits, your all happy...level cap gets raised. Uhh, what now? Merits go away? You keep them but new 75 players cant until they reach the next max level?

But what I really want to point out is that this stuff is in the .Dat files because SE puts it there with the possible intention of USING the item. NOT raising the level cap.

This is exactly what happened with the Aegis shield. It was labeled as a level 80 item and the world was divided into three groups:

People who thought the level cap was going to be raised,
People who thought the item was just bullshit,
and people who believed it was a real item.

Well, it obviously was used, and became a level 75 Shield, that actually existed.

Now we get to Ultima Weapon. Now the world is divided into the three sections again:

People who thought the level cap was going to be raised,
People who thought the item was just bullshit,
and people who believed it was a real item.

I think the same thing with Ultima Weapon is going to happen like Aegis: Its going to be tested, have its level modified then actually introduced into the game.

So no. No level cap increase. Its a retarded concept to even think about.

And this isnt the only item like this. I just thought Ultima Weapon was cool as hell.

BTW: This sword is PLD only. A GS for PLD. Not DRK. HA HA HA! WE WIN, PLD FOREVER.

Everyone already knew that the level cap wouldn't be raised. SE has said they won't do it several times in interviews.

actually.. they could have merits + raise level cap. EQ does something (as my friend told me) where around level 55 or 50 they have the option to change normal exp to points for certain categories. I imagine if they ever wanted to raise the level cap they could leave it as it is now. Where at level 75 you can choose to merit or regular exp (like you can right now) and if you want you can go to 80 and then merit or whatnot.

Now, I don't really believe that they will raise the level cap, but I'm just saying it's possible

Indeed, but even outside of alla, there are some people who still whole-heartedly believe that the cap would be raised to 99 eventually just because "Thats how most FF games are".

Actually If like most of the players all want the cap to be risen, they might do it. Even tho we dont "own" the company, they will give us what we want. They gave us the new jobs because many people kept saying how cool it would be.

But what if the game community is divided?

Level 75 people who dont want to lose their merits or whos merits wont be as effective
and
Everyone else who doesnt care.

The biggest problem is if it's raised to 80 or above, it kinda breaks the game for mages. Imagine WHMs, BLMs, or even BLUs...with Convert. Unless they made it RDM main only, kinda like how Call Wyvern is, it'd make mages incredibly overpowered.

Would it be cool to be higher than 75? Hell ya. Is it logical to happen anytime soon? I seriously doubt it.

If they raise the level cap a lot of jobs would lose a lot of usefulness

Anyone could Convert if they subbed rdm

Anyone could Warp II

THII would be commonplace

Anyone could use Shadowbind

And I Imagine anyone could do 1k+ Chi Blasts on God

It would just unbalance the game and would make Tiamat and Jorum almost Duoable.

I'm sure that SE could raise the level cap and just fix a few details to make things not unbalanced. They would prolly make (if it isn't already, who knows? no one is level anyways) convert and other job abilities that would unbalance things specific to that job. And I highly doubt SE would take off all merits from 75 players. They'd prolly do what I said above which is kinda what EQ did. The mobs that would be "too easy" would probably have a level adjustment themselves.. and other things would prolly be altered. I'm sure SE could raise the level cap to any level and still keep things balanced and whatnot.

Bingo, however I hope it won't ever happen.

If the cap were raised to 80, I'd probably get bored and end up quitting. The game would be somewhat unbalanced and easier. End up waiting for FF12 which is supposed to be quite challenging.

As it stands.. the game is (in my humble opinion) too easy now. Fully merited, and you are already several levels in strength above 75. It doesn't really stop at merits, but goes as far as the gear that is more commonly available now verses over a year ago. So, increasing the level to 80 would serve absolutely no purpose what so ever. If they're going to raise anything, I think it should be the levels of the monsters to act as a subtle "reset". That and/or introduce more challenging HNMs so that you don't have a zone full of people waiting hours for the "chance" to kill a monster that someone else has been running a bot on anyway. Updating AI and many other things would be a good start before even considering the level cap. I'd give most a day or three (a week at most) before they would be level 80 anyway.

I totally agree with the comment about tiamat and such being "duoable"-- even despite it being an exaggeration. I remember Bune being able to take out an alliance of players and was so excited to take him down with 5 until someone came along and told me they beat it with three people. Now I want to see if I could manage to duo it, but waiting 21hrs to so much as try doesn't seem to spart my interests as much as it once did. lol.

Update the monsters, not the player's stats!

I really dont like the idea of updating monsters. They did that with "Hyper Mode" and I dont feel like gathering 12 people for 1 monster. I actually do like the idea of taking down a hnm with a few friends. I like a decent challange as much as the next guy, but it's an even more challenge gathering people to even do it.

As for the cap, like i said most of the people must want it. If it's a 70/30 vote i'm pretty sure they wont change anything. If 90% of the people want a cap raise, then i'm almost sure they'll at least consider it, probly =P.

So far, it is a split vote on cap or not. Hench why nothing is changing with it. But the best I think we'll currently do is more Merits~

found it!

Anyone who thinks a level 76+ item indicates an increase in the level cap hasn't heard of Atmos test server, where players have GM-like capabilities to raise their levels and such for testing items. They make the things level 76+ so that even if someone had an item dupe, they couldn't equip it.

The game can support all the way up to some ridiculous level cap... 254 or something. But they're not gonna raise it that high. We're already hitting the limits on the Attack/Defense system, with the right gear/songs, a WAR or DRK can get up to 999 attack, and PLDs can get to 999 defense. If they raise the cap, all it'll cause is more problems with the current systems, not to mention gear.

The only way it will be raised is if abilities such as Convert and D2 are main job only and existing and currently uncapped areas are capped at 75.

When Shadow Lord first came out the cap was what, 50, 55? And he was TOUGH, unbeatable at first. Now with the gear available to us and a cap of 75 he can be solo'ed with a little effort and duo'ed with ease. I think SE has seen this and realizes if they increase the cap this will happen all over again, but not just with one boss, with every monster in every uncapped zone.

Really, I don't think they ever will. The Merit system is a very good idea and can push your character's stats to those of a high 70's unmerited job. Not only that but they apply at lower levels too, so it doesn't only benifit level 75's.

SE never said they won't ever raise the level cap. What they DID say was that if need be, they will raise the level cap, but, it wouldn't be for a long time as they don't see the need to raise the level cap.

Personally, I don't think they'll ever raise the level cap.

Eeek!

SMN/RDM, Astral Flow, Howling Moon, Convert, Howling Moon, Convert, Howling Moon -.- (With all of the proper waits and healing of course.)
