Level your #*($@#($& subjobs!

How many people do you know that sub nin for STR?

They may not sub ninja to get extra strength but when it comes down to it sub ninja adds strength which any physical DD wants. I get +4 STR from changing my sub from BLM to NIN which I can only guess is about the same as you having an underleveled sub. Considering people pay an extra 1mil+ to upgrade from a Amemit+1 mantle to a Forager's mantle, I don't see how this isn't a huge loss? Not many AH pieces have +4 STR to them and are cheap. So yes, you were gimp. You may not think you are missing anything important because there are no loss of necessary spells or abilities but you are still missing stats which you would normally pay an abundance of gil for. And considering you are a taru with the lowest amount of STR in the game, you would think you might consider doing anything possible to boost your STR.

Reishu does have a point to her arguement though. She has no use for a summoner sub except for the blood pacts and maybe auto refresh. She doesn't use it to for anything beyond those and any extra stats will not boost her performance as a RDM. In other words, neither job complements the other in any major way. In her case; however, it's the subjob that is needed and not really her main red mage. A SMN could have done what was needed of her every time, she had a BP to do and once the BP was done, disband to allow for someone else to take her slot. RDM/SMN just makes it a lot easier to do gods without getting a high level SMN as there are not a whole many SMNs at high levels.

No offense but nin gimps all DD except for war Maybe.N thats cuz they Have A- weapons that can duel wield =). Drk..... a good drk usually kills the thing with one sata so i doubt rampage can do that unless u stack soul eater and that wastes mp.

O yeah str along with A- Weapon is nice also =).But monks... don't sub nin for DD cuz i bet 20 cents berserk is alot better for DoT where monks top others.

Simple as this. For EXP I think having a gimp sub is inexcusable IMO. Other situations require non-typical subs. Somtimes you are asked or needed to do things you arent prepared for. For instance for Kirin I go /SAM.. it is gimp by 4 lvls when i started. The value of having Meditate highly out wieghs having a full sub in my "typical" subs.

With that said, I think its important to get as many subs up as possible. This will only make your character as flexable as it can be. I know for my DRK I want to be super flexible to bring mulitple things to the table, so I will always be lvling things for subs.

Is it really so much to ask that the sub you bring to exp be fully lvled?

But wait.. thats being a hypocrite right...having that sub fully leveled would of
gave you more STR which in turn would of made your WS more damaging. Also would of gave you more HP which could of saved you from any AOE that kirin does.. Stonega?

You can't say that on one hand you think its ok, but another its not ok. If you believe having a underleveled sub is gimp, its gimp. Not just when you want it to be.

I agree its "gimp" but that doesnt make me want to level it, you got what you needed.. Meditate.. you obviously didnt feel it was neccesary to get that extra 15HP or 1-2 str.

Let's not forget FFXI is time consuming AND not all people go to school or dont have any type of responsibilities. I am a nerd as much as the next guy but I like to get out once in a while.. not being stuck in the house leveling subs so I can impress others. :|

And you know what, nither did I. But hey.. you still got the job done.
That's what matters.

If I realize a party member's sub and or equip is gimp, they're booted, with the exception of those on their first job who wish to pick up an advanced job at 30.

Oh and for those, like Stigmatas who say "Let's not forget FFXI is time consuming AND not all people go to school or dont have any type of responsibilities. I am a nerd as much as the next guy but I like to get out once in a while.. not being stuck in the house leveling subs so I can impress others. :|" are morons. You have time to lvl your main, but when it comes to subs, you suddenly have a life? Good job there dude. I'm on varsity and I don't get out of school till 5 because of that, yet I stopped leveling ranger once I saw that I needed to sub war. Guess what? I have a life, I just take the time I have on weekends and lvl war instead of ranger.

72war/35nin and loving it baby, yeah! ...fixing that this week.

One other thing... WARRIORS: Yes, you, the new guys who are going through Qufim and the Jungles for the first time. I understand you don't have Ninja yet. That's cool. MNK is a perfectly acceptable subjob if you want to tank. THF is a good subjob for DDing. WHM does not work.
Ah, memories. I levelled to 32WAR/12WHM and only ever got one person telling me to get a different sub. I thought he was an idiot... I mean, come on man I could Cure2 myself twice!

/WHM will always have a place in my heart, at least... screw you hippies and your aspirations of successful xp parties, screw you all!

I do think its gimp. What does that extra 20-30 HP gain me? A lil over 10 dmg for Spirits Within. However I feel the need to cap it out to get the most I possibly can even if it is an extra 10 dmg...what I was refering to is in EXP.

Ill say it again.

For EXP I think having a gimp sub is inexcusable IMO.

Im sorry but a 75RNG/12NIN What does that show me as a pt leader trying to put together a pt. On a pick up pt you arent a part of anything till you get the invite. You need to have somthing people want. I myself will NEVER invite a 75RNF/12NIN to an exp pt.

Not like a DRK is not going to get an invite to an exp pt for not having a SAM sub or having it 25 lvls gimp.

That is way different then a GOD LS that uses what it has to accomplish a task.

Anyways what I was trying to say was if you want to exp do it with a lvled sub. Lvl other subs to make yourself more flexible for OTHER situations besides EXP.

i was lving my rng thursday lv 11 i been on got 11lvs that day was so hapy i go invite this ELF mnk was MNK11/5WHM no armour the crap tropic h2h thing and a astra ring he said i do this as i like it and i want to lv all i did was leave talked to him the other day i am now 36 rng un under 1 week he is 12 mnk how bad can u get true he might not lv alot but he has to red flg every time its cool to see a drg red flg but not a mnk because he is dam lazy to farm and lv a good sj even if in dunes if u got a sj use the dam right 1

Since when are Tropical Fists "crap"? They're damn good, especially for Lv10. They don't increase attack much, but they give absolutely no delay. Plus, they give like 10 to accuracy. They're good 'til Strike Baghnakas at the very least.
The Astral Ring thing is crap though. I have to agree with you on this one, Blazn. That's like the WHM I saw the other day with Physical Earring.

Subjobs are great because they help your main job out bigtime. They give you stat boosts, job abilities, job traits, sometimes weapon skills.
Like I previously stated, WAR, NIN, and WHM are the three most often used subjobs in the game.
With WAR, you get double attack, strength boosts, defence boosts, wicked job abilities, etc. Thus, this is good for most all damage dealers.
With NIN, you get dual wield, agility boosts, vitality boosts, Utsusemi, Tonko, and Stealth, etc. This is amazing for RNG and THF in every way.
With WHM, you get wicked cures (amazing on it's own), and MP, Auto-Regen, Clear Mind, etc. Subbing WHM gets you good parties because if you need to sub-heal, you can. If you need to Raise, you can.

All I can hear from this post is ...Blah,blahblah....blah....blahblahblah. blah.
If you need to use a subjob to be good at your main job, you're gimp. period.

Ahh yes, but could you imagine being good at your main job AND having a good subjob?

ahem, i see your brd is only 60 something, you dont know me so you sir must be leet.

my rng is 75 my nin is 37.
This is before pre patch almost 1yr and 6 months ago..
Reality another founder of the JOB ranger and I used to PT frequently...
How many people do you know that sub nin for STR?
3 shadows is enough to get hate pulled off of you, if you need more than three shadows then
1. your tanks sucks
2. your doing too much dmg at once
3. you havent learned your lesson from dying all the times you would have before.
Agi now doesnt play that much of a big role as a 75 taru rng..
with all my agi equipment on, standing 5.5 charecters from the mob using a Hellfire.. i still do.. 500-800 dmg.. and miss more than hit.
my nin sub gives me about 75 hp. to me, 75hp isnt going to help you if you have a tank who is not going to be able to take hate from you, and your getting hit for.. 250 crits and 150 reg. not including if you did one of those moves you probably gave it some TP.. lets take sickle slash for example, you'll die, IMO.
i use yellow curry sushi ambrosia,
before it was all +1 foods.. because its not that hard to walk to the AH and buy food :| even if i was lazy.
I believe i have the second best possible equipment for rng in the game.. only because i didnt get sea when i had the chance.. deathchild IMO has a better set..

to get back on topic and not to hijack the thread, Yes its important to have a fully leveled sub for these reasons.

spells you might miss out on, accuracy bonuses, MP HP, and to put at ease the minds of people who have enough skill to cover the shitty sub.

Make up your mind. Are you rng 65/nin 12, or are you rng 75/nin 37?

Oh yeah, I'm only lvl 63, so I know nothing about the dynamics of the game, and you are 75 (even though you said you were 65, which is about the same level as me) so you obviously know everything.

Besides, if I had known you were 75, I wouldn't have said anything, because I know how you guys get your panties in a bunch when someone of a lower level says anything.

Also, it doesn't matter if YOU use food and have good gear. Most subjob gimps don't, so you will be lumped into that category whether you like it or not.

It doesn't matter why you use a subjob. You do lose out on a few STR, and that will have a negative impact on your damage. 75 hp can save your life if something unfortunate happens. Is it probable? No, but it can happen. I know I've survived a fight with less than 75 hp on occasion. That's 5 minutes of downtime you would cost your party if that unfortunate situation occurs.

Tell Reality I said hi. lol.

mmmmmm I remember the days of levling from 25-30 with a level 12 mnk sub or a lvl 9 whm sub... ahh memories. I think after attaining the paladin advance class my ls at the time (angelveil... or could have been silent rage, same thing though both lead by hyori) made a vow to never level with a gimped sub. Or maybe it was just stouter playing as lucylittle using a patch but to level up thf, rng, and nin to level 30 soloing and said that he'd never let that character have gimped sub which ended up with me following suit. Who knows it was a year and a half ago... Moral of the story is um... I was a level 30war/12mnk? hahaha but I would never in my life do that now. I take the game a little more profesionally which makes it more worthwhile to play. I dont go for the argument "I'm just having fun so I dont need to be uber." Being uber is fun, duh.

I'm guilty of exping with an underlvled sub(rdm/blm). This is not an excuse to accept an invite and or exp with a low sub, but heres what usually happens.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm farming or standing in jueno.(not seeking for a pt)
I get a /tell asking if id like to join an exp pt.
I tell this person my sub is underlvled.
They respond with something like : As long as you refresh/dispel-w/e. Idc.
So, I accept invite.
I do my best to cast whatever needs casting (sometimes need reminding).
PT regularly gets chain5's and almost everyone lvls once or twice before Pt disbands.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If my sub was lvled, I would definitely spend less gil on +mp items to keep up and lessen any downtime.

70whm/34smn.. deal with it.. you dont want me in exp party? I don't care. I hate smn. I'm never using it for anything except ENMs or promys. That smn is staying at 34 until people need smn for ENM.

"WARRIORS: Yes, you, the new guys who are going through Qufim and the Jungles for the first time. I understand you don't have Ninja yet. That's cool. MNK is a perfectly acceptable subjob if you want to tank. THF is a good subjob for DDing. WHM does not work. I partied with only one good WAR/WHM in my time and he had +2 in almost every gear slot and was Rank 10."

My first job was warrior when I started the game and yes, I subbed WHM. Why? It's the closest thing to Paladin I could get since I had no job at 30 yet and that is what I wanted to be. I levelled WAR/WHM up to 33 without a problem, and I was a Rank 2 newb, no + gear. Guess it depends if you know how to play the combo so it works.

Yeah. WAR/WHM can work. It's just bad for MP. You can only get like one or two Cures in. However, it is pretty nice for any kind of wannabe Paladin later on. I don't see why the combo can't work. It's better than my LS member who got WAR to 30 with absolutely no subjob at all.
You're right about how it only works if you know how to play it. Which is one of the reasons why it's really good for future Paladins, because it teaches you more how to play the job.
