I like how he mentions Japanese in the beginning of the post but never refers to them after. Sure, there are people on here with addictions, but i can almost garuntee (without proof, but im positive) that the majority of players do it to get away from RL. Better FFXI than alcohol or drugs.

And yeah, this OP is probably that one person in every LS that bitches and moans about getting outclaimed at LL or VE.

{too weak} son... {too weak}

I play video games to kill time. I also play video games because when I do something I try to be the best at it. Why?

Because

I want to be the very best, like no one ever was.
To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause.
I will travel across the lands, searching far and wide.
Each Pokemon to understand, the power that's inside.

Pokemon, gotta catch em all.

It's you and me.
I know it's my destiny.

Pokemon

Ohhh you're my best friend, in a world we must defend.

Pokemon, gotta catch em all.

Our hearts so true. Our courage will pull us through.
You teach me and I'll teach you.

POKEMON

Gotta catch em all.

Every challenge along the way, with courage I will face.
I will battle everyday, to claim my rightful place.
Come with me, the time is right.
Theres no better team.
Arm and arm, we'll win the fight.
It's always been our dream.

Pokemon, gotta catch em all.

It's you and me, I know it's my destiny.

Pokemon

Ohhhh you're my best friend, in a world we must defend.

Pokemon

Our hearts so true.
Our courage will pull us through.
You teach me and I'll teach you.

POKEMON, gotta catch em all.
Gotta catch em all.

I like how some of you guys are defending yourselves, like you need to rofl

The thread is a good lol but I can't help but mention 2 things

Reading the post and then being like "Oh, a republican" "Oh, a christian"

That's pretty shallow, TBH

Even if the guy is both, it's pretty stereotypical to generalize like that.

It's another Republican! BURN HIM!!!

I work, I parent, I clean, I run, I swim, I garden, I take holidays with my girl pals, I socialize, I shop, I read, spend time with my family, I party ..... there really are times when an alternate reality can be peaceful :)

agreed

I find myself thinking and strategizing a hell of a lot more while playing video games than i would be if i was watching tv or a movie.

So i don't have much of a social life ehh? Well i just moved so i don't know anyone very well within 60 miles.

Bad political satire, is still political satire. DON'T HOLD ME DOWN SIR!

I wasn't serious, but yeah, it still was pretty low. :spiteful:

The monthly fee is a modest safety net against becoming TOO addicted to FFXI. If your parents are paying for your subscription, you're probably in school. Otherwise, you probably have to go to work for forty or more hours a week. Either way, it's difficult to manage playing the game as much as many might like to. I was able to, briefly, a couple years ago when my job company went out of business and I found myself enjoying the paid vacation that was unemployment, but that didn't last forever. So yeah, monthly fees are a decent safety measure against becoming too addicted. If you lose your job because you play too much FFXI, your days of playing FFXI are numbered. If you quit school to play too much FFXI, you'll never be able to get a job, and once your parents get sick of your freeloading on their hospitality, your days of playing FFXI are numbered. I don't think there's too much to worry about.

I get what you're saying Pomp, but damn, if it gets to the point where you are using this safety net.... you got problems. Major, problems.

Hi, I am here to save lives.

The first thing that you MUST know is that, in no way am I against games.

The thing I am against is the Japanese controlling so many peoples lives.

YOU PEOPLE are so wrapped up in this game. Let us think about life, from early times people lived without these stupid video games. Now you people have such a sad life that you spend EVERY DAY AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN ON THESE STUPID GAMES. Do you people not know what you are doing? has your life come to this? sitting in front of a screen talking to your online girlfriend?? LOL ONLINE GIRLFRIEND....WTF IS THAT CRAP? Now if you try to say it is "just a hobby"...you are IN DENIAL....IT IS AN ADDICTION! You people don't understand that. Everybody on this game and games like it are SAD people. You are so scared of people that you live in a game, rather than experience what life is actually about! DON'T BE AFRAID OF LIFE OR PEOPLE! GET OUT AND LIVE TO THE FULLEST YOU CAN! You may ask "why doesn't he just leave us alone?", it is because I don't want to sit back and watch this happen to people. IT IS DISGUSTING!

GET A LIFE! PLEASE! for your own good and the good of common people. Don't support this japanese terrorism.

NOW IM SURE THIS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE DELETED. THAT IS BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE ARE AFRAID, "WHAT IF IT SPREAD, THAT WOULD THREATEN MY NONEXISTENT LIFELESS LIFESTYLE" YOU ARE RIGHT, AND IT SHOULD. IF THERE IS ANY RESPONSIBLE ADMIN OR PERSON THEY WILL ASK QUESTIONS RATHER THAN SIMPLY DELETING THIS POST.

This is why I play video games you fucking nazi.

I came close. Back in what I consider the golden age of FFXI, when all of my original friends still played, levelling my blm to 75, and doing all the FFXI milestones for the first time, I was madly addicted. When I had the job I referenced going out of business, I'd be there thinking of nothing but FFXI. I'd come home and log into FFXI. I'd get as little sleep as possible before work the next day, staying up all night playing FFXI. I ate down in my room. Then it went out of business and I milked unemployment for as long as possible before getting another quickie job (12 hour shifts in a warehouse from hell) that was also going out of business (thank god), before getting the 40 hour a week respectable job I have now. I met some people at this job that gave me a "life". I think for a while, my FFXI cumulative play time was about 25% of my life since that fateful march 24 when the PS2 came out, but rampant inactivity over the last year whittled that down to a more "casual player" sort of number. I go to the bar after work once or twice a week now (every friday anyway) for a guinness or two and some chicken wings. But yeah, I was kinda pathetic for a while.

I don't drink, I don't smoke, and going outside in English weather makes me seriously sick. What else am I supposed to do? If I wasn't playing FF, I'd probably be reading/listening to music. Heck, technically I read while playing, and even back when I used to watch television a lot, I put captions on (much to the chagrin of my family). So... yeah. Sorry, but I like this game. Addicted? I don't know. I've never skipped work or school or anything to play, but I would definitely have to admit to being obsessed.

EDIT: Before anyone asks why I'm posting now instead of being in class, I actually am pretty sick.

I had this exact type of destructive nature. I would get up of a morning on my days off, login, play until my wife came home, she'd login, we'd eat at our desks, play until ass-late, then go to bed.

Get next-to-no sleep at all, then would recycle and do it again.

We had two major addictions, though. FFXI and helping people. This is the prime reason neither of us have a lv75 job.

Now, though, we only play maybe 1/2 nights a week...if that. And to tell the truth, I couldn't be happier about it.

Hi, I am here to save lives.

How many WHMs have this as a macro getting into a party?

On the subject at hand though, I'd like to think I have a pretty good life. I have a full time job with a growing corperation, I have a family with a 7 year old daughter, I have a good handleful of close friends that I care alot about and talk to often, and I do play FFXI atleast 3/7 nights a week. ATLEAST. Maybe this person, may they return to read replies or not, will know that he might just need a life of his own.

It's kinda creapy, I mean.. Imagine a 30 year old guy going on google and typing in "Online Games, Message Boards, My Space." >.> Scary.

I'm pretty happy about my life. :D
