Well, I guess that is probably the best solution to the current problem at hand.

We cannot reliably solve the exp party issue, but if you solo, you know you won't have that problem!

Rappa and I duo exp'd our BRD and MNK to bypass the horror of the Dunes. Thank God we did lol.

Hey, I have access to a PL, and I offered to PL Aly while I was PL'ing myself, but I have solo'ed a monk out in the dunes to 20. Taru wouldn't make much diff.

Svina is my buddy.

Um yes, I soloed almost every job to 20, lol. It's not hard. Just kill EPs in La Thiene Plateau. Even without food or meds you can easily get 500xp at a time between resting. Start with the mobs near the zone to West Ronfaure. Once they start giving you too few xp (like 15ish per kill), go a bit to the east and go to the lake to fight Steelshells and Gob Fisherman and sheep and that ilk. Once you're high enough to easily kill those, you can bounce back and forth between the two lakes at the bottom of the map near the zone to the dunes. Sometimes around lvl 18 or so I will move to Carpenters' Landing (zone in from North San d'Oria) and finish up there. You can just stay in La Thiene if you want to, but assuming you aren't doing this all in one sitting it's probably faster to move to CL since you can zone in straight from a town.

Thanks for the good advice which I am going to follow.

I would like, however, to illustrate my point. About 5:00 am I got a party invite while soloing in kornstarch highlands and I figured it would be mostly jp so I took the invite. The party leader was named turdy, which made me a bit hesitant.

After he fills the party, and I end up pulling, I pull a few mobs which the ninja never vokes off of me. He won't even voke when I'm getting my ass kicked. Ok this is a NINJA who has supposedly gotten to 30 and learned at least a little about the game. Then I realize that he hasn't casted utsesumi once. As realization dawns on me I feel dread in my heart.

"Do you have ninja tools" I inquired. Alas, he did not. And he CREATED the party with the strongest player a taru mnk, not five minutes before. Okay so I figured I would be nice for a change and help the poor guy out.

I roust Firebrand from reading porn and ask him to go to AH in Whitegate, pick up ninja tools and a scroll of barwatera for the whm and bring them out to the dunes. He says yes and we pick up a six player an excellent learning thf named..... Elt... somthing.

We pull T's and VT's and I tank, all the while, Turdy is complaining about the low xp. By this time I wanted to wring his neck so badly. Fire arrives with ninja tools and the thf starts pulling some stronger mobs and we find out that the guy doesn't know how to USE ninja tools and we would have to tell him to cast before the pull and voke the mob off the puller and voke it back of me when I take hate so he can recast.

I finally got sick of it and went to bed. The dunes drains the life right out of you.

I didn't even bother to seek in dunes for most job now. When i was lvling my PLD in dunes, i end up soloing a bit at dunes. Killing EM and T, even got chain#3 for 400+ exp with ring >.<!. Depends on your lvl, but after 15, i prefer to lvl in La theine, subbing /whm helps a lot if you have it on that toon.

i Solod every job i had till 20-22. Gave me a much better handle on the job to have the skills required to group in khazam at the time (few years back now).

Remember back when people used to xp in shakrami and the bubu outpost was cramped most days?

Good times.

I wasn't partying, I was merely.. uh, supervising!

hypocrite

*insert irony*

I like dunes actually I notice that most people dont know what to do or how to play so I just take control and teach them. It's not easy mind you but it can be fun teaching stuff I learned the hard way to others.

eventually they get better the next time I see them

takes a bit of patience but it can help then again I'm a patient person for the most part.

Newbs suck hands down.

Kink, there's an area with a large amount of Wadi Hares in the Dangruf Wadi. Solo there, easy XP. Buy a potion tank for optimal storage of a way to cure yourself. And go to town. After that, you can move on to clip's around 17-18. And it's close to the City of Bastok, so you can get to where you're going very easily while at the same time not far from an AH, signet refreshing area, or anything. ^^ That's what I do, btw. Even better, when getting PLed it's fast XP. I PLed my buddy Mike from 8 to 25 in about 7 hours of game play. We just have such terrible schedules that it took 4 days to get 7 hours of game play together. -.-;;

Anyhow... moral of the story is, duo with someone and if I'm available I'll PL you to 25... And once you're 25, you can duo with him! lol then I PL more from there.

Does this apply to minorities as well?=)

Am I gettin da BBC?

kink, just give up on dunes, either solo your way to 20, or just get a pl and solo to 20.

i havent ever xped in dunes since my first run through, I just had a friend pl me to 20 solo. if you have something against having a pl, then just solo it, ive done that too...it isnt hard, and its faster than dunes. also less nerveracking.

gl

You guys are way too scared of the dunes. I've taken too many jobs through there, and things aren't so rough there.

Especially now during the week, camps aren't over crowded. If you the complaint are the people, guess what, they're there in qufim, and the jungles, so the whole "solo to 20" is preetty moot.

I've never had a problem telling a noob what is expected of him. I've never had a problem leaving or booting a noob. If you stay in a shitty party, you deserve everything you get.

LOL I bet two thirds of the people bragging about soloing to 20's and beyond spent most of that time with a PLs, like Alyada. Yeah yeah I know everyone except YOU had PLs, that is. I call bullshit before you even open your mouths lol.

That aside, O Sages of Soloing, where would a taru mnk go to solo at level 15? Right now EM's eat me.

If EM's as a lvl 15 mnk(regardless of race) kill you I can only offer you one piece of advice: get better at FFXI

Use your common sense Kink, I know you have some. I know you've been playing this game for awhile now because I remember I used to see your name(not hard to forget) alot doin my runnin around. With as long as you've been playing I woulda thought you'd know this shit by now. Learn your low lvl zones, know what to kill and where to kill it at each lvl.

I would kill in W.Ron till about 9-12 depending on the job and then I would move in to La Thiene and kill rabbits/sapplings and maybe one more mob in that area. At 13-15 I move up to the birds, a few orcs, make my way down to the pond and fight everything in my way, do a few rounds of crabs then head past that onto this narrow strip of land that's packed full of worms sheep and gobs, and repeat. At about 18 you can move in to the Dunes and fight rabbits/bats/gobs in that little square not 20 feet past the zone.
There's more spots and methods than the ones I mentioned, you just gotta learn what's out there. Also learn what foods/drinks/items are best, they can help alot.

EDIT: Yeah.....and please don't PL your job through the low levels, it's an excellent way to suck balls at it later.
