so the following is a gimp player right?
img_20071207_100055.png
No those arent tiger rings. 21% haste on a mnk is gimp amirite? That's obviously why i've outparsed him and other mnks in similar/equal tp gear?
Because I throw out/delete parses where the DD are gimp I obviously must use only gimp DD as my reference point?
Not gimp, but not pimp.

Since this is the only pic/parse i have left since my pc meltdown because i'd put it on photobucket so I'll have to use this.
In here you can see 1 gimp(drk) a 20% haste ebody ridill war, a cor, a brd and a rdm as well as my thf(only 18% haste on me at the time and missing my hect feet since i left em in MH by accident).
parse.jpg

The first step is to ignore the gimp because he's a gimp.
Now let's see if i can approximate the crap that I've heard over and over again that i'm going to hear from you this time.
And Classic, who I'm assuming is the ridill war you're talking about, out damaged you, unless I missed the memo where they made 30.03 > 31.27. Plus, the war had to have been provoking first, which lowers the damage he does by a good margin; so he'd have been much further out ahead of you if he didn't have to provoke and recast shadows more than anyone else. Gear/merits/food/rolls/songs are important too, but since you're just going to bullshit about how it doesn't matter or how great you're geared in comparison, I'm not going to bother arguing about it. Provoking is a more pronounced effect anyways.

You're backtracking over your bullshit claim that thf can outdamage cannon job by posting results where you only "got close" to the damage they were doing. I know you can get close(never denied it, actually), but you're the one saying that you can beat them; close doesn't count.

Merits would be a nice thing to know about too. Again, if THF could reliably out damage cannon jobs, they'd be cannon jobs.

Since you want me to do it. Tride: you're a gimp.

First voking for thieves on lesser colibri gets my sam killed. And I don't even have a soboro. Sometimes sata+voke doesn't even pull the mob off me after I've voked once, and yes this is when sata landed properly.

If you start with a mob half dead, generally the thf can't get 100tp back by the time the next mob comes in.

If you start with the mob half dead, generally SATA isn't up when the next pull comes in.

Don't get me wrong, I loved leveling thief, love having one on NM fights, and when they know how to play they aren't horrible 60+ (for the love of god do not TA me). But other DDs usually are a better option in exp/merit.

Lots of tired bullshit in this thread from people that don't know what they are talking about.

well looks like I will just lvl to 75 doing campaign LOL. This thread should be moved to the flameboard now XD

Seriously, a THF came on here to ask for help or at least some clarification, and got a pile of shit instead >_>;

On a side note Aires, my SAM is around that lvl, if youre on, Ill bring ya in, I <3 thfs and am currently lvling one too ^_^ just do your best, these past few days havent been great for me either (was seeking ALL day on SAM......)

lol sounds good hexx its just the opposite for me sam i get invites instantly. my SAM is a monster, so that might have somethign to do with it lol.

THF is a good DD, but bajaratt is a retard, khajit. After all he is a blackbelt monk that eats sushi and uses dune boots

A good THF in good haste gear will do good dmg agains other DDs. Also limbus wasnt a good example as some of some of our DDs aren't good. I wish I got invites on THF for meripos. Once I did a LS meripo with 2 brd rdm THF (BB)MNK WAR and did like 31% dmg.. don't call that gimp.

Problem is, standard THF doesnt care about gear. They either wear the cobra set crap, their AF pants (someone explains me in what it is good), dragon armors in TP gear, completly skipping those amazing items that are: walhara turban, bravo's subligars, swift belt, rapparee harness, dusk gloves (Haste+18%). Dont forget also that a full merited THF will have +10% tripple attacks and +5% double attacks ( brutal earrings), for a total of +25% more hits, ambush ( +15 accuracy from behind, during SA WS). Such a Thief is litterally hundred fisting full time...

Irony is, I stopped lvlng thf at 45 because it bored me, lol. Thf has primarily 2 responsibilities : pull; SATA. Some thfs don't even offer to pull >.> I don't know why so many people have a tough time with SATA, I guess some people simply have TH4 on their minds and don't stop to actually learn the job right.

As to what was stated about no good tank needing a thf (was it Baja?), if you have a job like blm, no nin can hold hate for long. I would wait til 1/2 the mob's hp was gone, do one big nuke, and would pull hate. This tank was holding hate off of everyone in the party too. Maybe when you lvld nin you partied with below par DDs? And I'm not talking post 70 nin, where they get most of their +enm gear (got into an arguement a while back with someone who lvld nin and said they could hold hate like a pld on kirin, guess he forgot our party was only in the 30's, lol). Course, with no one wanting blm, it has become easier for nin's to hold hate. If used right, thf is never a wasted spot (only 1 thf obviously). Hell, if used wrong, every job is useless.

A few nice thf things

Anyone ever remember the parties with two ninja, 2 thf, a blm and some type of healer or a 2nd nuker? This would be right after Viper bite. None stop killing 2 distortions to MB and x3-4 MB's <yes nin can MB>, and sata was always ready on atleast 1 thf. sata VB 300-500 in skill chain low level

Level 61 on Colbiris... Nin, thf, 2 blu/thf, healer, misc. 6th... Nin Voke, thf lines up, Blu/thf Sata death scissors 1.5k 2nd blu then sata death scissors nin, thf Sa... Ta <ws if tp> Fast kills...

Sneak attack and trick attack are meritable, so you can knock the timers down on them to up spike damage and Sa + WS and Ta + ws.

I know this is a little old school...but closing a Skill chain ups the damage of the weapon skill.

I think it is more how willing people are to break the cookie cutter styles for how useful a thf can be. In the upper levels a thf's evasion can let them hold a link on them without dying fast. Very useful when in zones over camped by Meriters chaining VT mobs when you are trying to level up.

Also in the lv 60+ parties I found a thf helped me as nin hold hate better in parties that were semi cannon, but players did not sub /nin. Now they have accomplice and collaborator to help remove hate from crazy melees keeping them from being mp sponges between ichi recast pre 74.

Most other DD jobs can do the exact same thing, the good players know how to manage their hate so that doesn't happen all the time. I partied with a few idiots who literally tried to pull hate off me every chance they got, and they brought our exp/hour down with their dumbassery. I didn't party with them for long, and usually just let them die when they acted that dumb.

I would wait til 1/2 the mob's hp was gone, do one big nuke, and would pull hate.
Something big like Freeze, right? I've partied with blm's who would bust that out, then bitch at the tank for not holding hate when it was their own stupid fault for trying to pull hate. Hell, I've seen blm's rip hate off pld's WITH thf's halfway through the mob's health with the right spells, that's not indicative of a tank problem.

On normal nukes, it's usually not a problem to hold hate off them; but I rarely party with blm, so there wasn't a lot of opportunity to hold hate against one.

This tank was holding hate off of everyone in the party too. Maybe when you lvld nin you partied with below par DDs?
Nope, if the party members sucked, I left; I don't waste my time in shitty parties.

I didn't think I really had to disclaimer such a statement against the obvious, but here's the full version: Baring retards who actively try to steal hate from me or are completely incapable of playing their job well, a good tank doesn't need a thf to do their job properly. You're right though, if a thf is used right, it's a good addition to the party. The problem is there's only a handful of thf's using it right; and that's why I hate partying with them, it's like winning the lottery to find a competent one and I don't like those odds, especially when their sole role often isn't necessary.

lolthfhundredfists from a retard.

I only read the first page, 'cause every thief thread is the same, and I understand it. I hate it, but it's truth. 90% of thieves SUCK outright. They either don't know how to play the job properly, or their equipment sucks (or both in some cases.

I love that I can be an exception to this rule and maybe even change peoples' views on the job, one party at a time, and it makes the game fun when people invite me hesitantly, and I come in as a hurricane of whoop-ass, not only doing the job right, but for the most part having excellent equipment. I play all jobs this way, but with thief especially, it really makes a difference.

I eat proper food situational to the party and camp, I swap out gear between melee, sa, ta, sata, ws, saws and taws because they all need balance. There's a difference between viper bite, dancing edge, and shark bite, so gear changes according to what ws I'm going to be using and what mob is being fought.

Incompetency is not limited to people playing thief alone, it's just easier to get away with being incompetent on other jobs.
